I've been cleaning up any ashtrays, butts, ash's and anything I can find that is smoking related , I'm going to give it one hell of a try and I really want to kick this habit. it will be a real MOFO for a few days but I have things to do that might keep my mind off of killing the first person that I see come Wednesday about . I will try to post back about how I doing if I'm not in jail or the nuthouse . wish me luck .

It's all will power will power will power, and finding something to keep your mind of the thought of "Geezz I need a smoke", have someone help you through this, every-time you start craving that adult pacifier say a control word, then that some one can hit you with something.

Good luck, and if you really get desperate for that smoke post a few photos around of someones lungs after they got all eaten up, it may sound gross but it works.

I quit in the late 70"s and never went back, but I had a 10,000 foot mountain to try and climb.

Good luck BBB.... I did it about 4-5 years ago... Something that really helped was E-cigarettes... No gums or patches worked for me.. But as mostly everyone has mentioned. Will power and you wanting to do it...As unfortunately only you can do it.......

I hope you can quit. if you do you will feel ten years younger. I quit 3 years ago, but only because my appendix blew up and I spent 11 days in the hospital.

I hope you are doing ok bbb
Fight it all the way and never give up
I never even tried it and I am so glad lol

You're always better off if you quit smoking; it's never too late.

The true face of smoking is disease, death and horror
- not the glamour and sophistication the pushers in the tobacco industry try to portray.

day 1 . I haven't killed anyone yet nor have I threatened to do so yet. I did find a butt with a 1/2 inch on it but it had to be two years old ,yikes it was bad. I'm going to do this , I going to quit .

I recently quit after 50 years of 2.5 packs. I tried cold turkey a number of times and could never do it longer than a few days so I quit quitting. This time I realized the habit was more problematic than the nicotine addiction so I went to work on that. So I started day one by only smoking one cigarette every hour. That way I didn't have the agony of thinking no more cigarettes and worked on the urge to reach for the pack all the time without even thinking while lowering my nicotine consumption. When I smoked, I went to a different place and held the cigarette like a joint, not the normal comfortable way. Sort of like taking medicine. Day 2 was every 2 hours, day 3 every 3 hours and so on. It helped having a strict regimen of sticking to the exact time to smoke whether I could withhold or not. No earlier, no later - no decisions. By day 10 it was only 2 per day and I left them for good. That was six months ago. I still have urges to smoke and don't mind people around me smoking. I like the smell but I keep telling myself - one and I'm done. Don't want to go through that again.

I also found that when you have a strong urge to smoke it helps taking a deep breath and holding it as long as you can. Best of luck.

you know the biggest thing I've found so far is what to do with the fingers , sounds odd but after so many years of smoking you always have a smoke between your fingers. I found working around the house or on something helps.

After 40 yrs of a carton a week or more, my final real smoke was about 11 pm July 31 2010. Haven't had the desire to light up since. Sugarless gum & DIY electronic cigs have helped with the hand-to-mouth thing.......if you think fta offers an endless variety (receivers, dishes, lnbs, switches, motors, etc.) wait till you delve into DIY E-Cigs (battery mods, USB passthru's, cartomizers, vapor flavors, nicotine/non-nicotine strengths, etc.)......... oh yeah when you DIY, its actually affordable, compared to cigs. $75 @year as opposed to $75 @ week for carton of cigs.......... kinda like iks verses a sub ........lol

That's why I could never handle cold turkey. The gradual approach is the only way that worked for me.

I was just like you man every time I tried to quit. Try my hourly method. It's free. Kill that urge to reach and wean off the nicotine. It's the reaching habit you gotta control. You don't take a baby off the tit all of a sudden. You wean them over a week or so.

BBB Try drinking lots of water like a glass every hour it helps to flush the nicotine out of your system, that's what I did when I quit cold turkey.

why the wait???... take deep drag... & be done with it...YOU... have to want it badly enuf to make it happen... don't delay or make excuses ... yes it takes most many attempts & it is a royal pain in the butt to say the least as you know already... I have heard some say that hypnotism can work.... just a thought... I know in my case the craving was more mental than physical... when I stopped having the urge... I new I had quit... at that point the trick was to 'just say no' when a bud offered one as one is all it takes to start the vicious cycle all over again... learned that one the hard way & I'm sure so did many others...be smart... make it worth your while... put the money you save not buying them in an account towards a vacation or something else you really want... we all do it differently to our own taste & style... best of luck with whatever you decide to try...

I'm waiting for the doctor to get all the paper work, list of stop smoking gourps and any stop smoking aids I might need. I'm going to do the the right way so hopefully it will stick this time.
