Cotto wrote that he had hired Freddie Roach to train him, replacing Pedro Diaz, and that he would fight on Oct. 5 on a Top Rank card. There has been much speculation that Cotto would fight Carlos Molina, but he didn't mention an opponent and Top Rank president Todd duBoef could not be reached for comment.
Cotto began his career with Top Rank, which signed him in 2000 off the Puerto Rican Olympic team. He became one of the sport's biggest stars and won world titles at 140, 147 and 154 pounds.
But in January 2012, he left Top Rank to sign with Golden Boy in order to take a May 5, 2012, bout in Las Vegas against Floyd Mayweather Jr. Cotto lost a unanimous decision to Mayweather, then fought once more for Golden Boy. He lost another unanimous decision to Austin Trout in a fight that did a big rating on Showtime.
After announcing the choice to hire Roach, the Hall of Fame trainer, and his fight on HBO on Oct5 Cotto wrote on Twitter;

With this in mind I will keep working hard for the best benefits for me my family and my company. Will give more details ahead

Cotto is 37-4 with 30 knockouts.

Won't make any difference... Cotto has taken too many heavy blows in his career...
Roach ain't gonna take the punches for him. Miguel should call it a great career.
A man has to know his limitations... he has reached his.

I have always thought that he would not do well at 154 with top quality at that level. Proof was his last fight against the lefty Austin Trout.I read he will be fighting Delvin Rodriguez instead of Carlos Molina. He should not have a problem with him. He should make his money with a Canelo fight and retire. That will possibly happen after the Mayweather fight.

I agree this will not help Cotto. He was never the same after the first fight with Margarito (when he cheated). He took too many shots.

Yup , I think Cotto is done(mind you I am a huge fan of his).
I think Freddie is done also.
Cotto should call it quits before he gets badly hurt.
He's got the money plus his promoting is doing alright.
Just time to move on in my opinion.

Yep,, when most sports figures start losing it, they start firing people... getting new ones.
Its a cop out.... I agree Cotto was a super fighter. Always enjoyed him.
I really liked watching him when he beat Sugar Shane. He fought super.
Plus he is a nice guy. I think someone should show him a picture of his face
after Trout beat him up. Maybe bring him to his senses.
All due respect to my PR friends on the forum. But I think Miguel is making a huge mistake.
Khan fires Freddie cuz of his glass chin. Miguel picks him up to avoid beatings. Figure that one out.

Well, time ain't over till is over. Heard the same a while back and things happened. His blood is thick as you all know, after being almost killed by a dirty fighter, he came back and the rest is history. I have to respect his decision, lets see what happens this time.

I am not one to cast away the hopes and inspirations of any man, young or old. Miguel Cotto has a big heart. Freddy Roach, in spite of his physical affliction, is not a celebrated trainer for nothing. Often, it is not the skills of a doctor that cures a patient; it is the faith and belief between each other that brings relief. The same can be said between boxer and trainer. The psychological impact of a great relationship is what carries momentum to a successful outcome.

In a fire, a weakling can carry out a piano. The superhuman act is fuelled by intense desire to save possession. It is the production of the chemical adrenaline that makes it all possible.

I am a firm believer that no matter at what age, human beings are capable of greatness with desire, determination, dedication, and commitment.

So, Rudee and Fib...I am not counting you out yet!!!

I totally agree amigo Gamer... I will never forget the fight against Mayweather.. He was the one that gave him the best fight of all.. But he needs to stick at his natural weight.. I still think he does have something left.. Only problem I have always noticed is he never adapts in the ring.. maybe Freddie will work with him on that.......

Miguel has gotten slow and takes wayyyy too many punches.
Only thing that will cure that at his age and battle scars is a trip to Lourdes..
Think back to Hearns, Leonard, Duran, Chavez at the end of their careers.
I am afraid Miguel is going to go the Juanma route.
