I recently purchased 2 routers both are Asus RT-N66U.

I want to stay under the radar.

I also have experience flashing Linkysis routers with ddwrt.

I have two of the linkysis routers running now. I have a lot of area to cover, so i have the modem, hooked up to ddwrt router #1.

ddwrt router #1 acts as a bridge and communicates to ddwrt router #2.

I increased the signal on both routers and i have ample coverage to keep me happy and the wifi going.

Here is my question.

I recently purchased 2 Asus RT-N66U routers. I plan on flashing these Routers with Tomato and Shibby 1.28.

I want to also run OpenVPN and remain anonymous for all my devices connected to my routers.

My question is this.

OpenVPN is free until you reach a certain limit of bandwith.

Do i need to buy another VPN to work with openvpn to keep my devices anonymous?

I want to you tomato instead of DDWRT because from what i see it is a lot more stable when streaming video and has less hiccups.

Also shibby 1.28 has a lot more features than ddwrt.

So i read all the readmes about flashing tomato and shibby 1.28.

I am confused on how to get openvpn running on shibby, how to keep an vpn annoymous. Do i need to buy a vpn service to keep the routers anonymous???

All help would be greatly appreciated on this subject.

Hmm I don't know anything about flashing Shibby or Tomato or DDWRT but I know that some VPN's will actually terminate traffic if they cease to be anonymous. So in other words if you were surfing and the VPN stopped covering you the VPN would terminate the packet transfers to keep your identity hidden.

Might wanna look into a paid VPN that offers that. Most paid VPN's offer PPTP, L2TP and OpenVPN. Here is a list you can use to narrow down your search:

http://www.vpnsp.com/vpn-providers.html

I would get one that operates outside the U.S. especially if you looking for using it for IKS. That would be one who's domain doesn't operate on a .COM or .ORG or .US or .NET top level domain.

you need a router with a listing for VPN Client, No need to flash. I use a TP-Link AXE5400. This is a tri band router 2.5GB, 5GB, 6GB. With this type or router you may find that you only need one to cover your area. Either way only one needs to have VPN Client route.

Proton has a free 1 user VPN which has a kill switch that shuts the service down stopping all internet traffic until the VPN re-establishes the vpn connection. I used it until I decided SurfShark was worth buying.
