laptop with windows 8

help. I got a laptop with windows 8 and need to type a letter. just how would I do that ? I don't mean to sound like a total idiot, but I ain't use to windows 8 period . what programs do I need ? or is the programs all ready there and I am not smart enough to find them . I bought this lap top from staples a couple of months ago and cannot figure the sucker out. help anyone.

office works great but it can cost alot of money , you can find some very good programs for free. look on cnet for a freebee

Try Wordpad.exe. Comes with win8.

I just installed OpenOffice on a PC with Windows 8. Works great.
