View Full Version : Questions about Pinwheel HD

These are some common sense questions I have regarding Pinwheel HD.

i) There are three versions Mini for private, Pro for public and IPTV+VOD for public and private plus IP channel streaming. However LeeSatt is selling only mini and have also mentioned clearly that LeeSatt will not be selling Pro version, they have not said the same for IPTV+VOD though they do not have it. LeeSatt is a Canadian satellite shop.

Ever wondered why public server's which used to come in with almost every fta boxes 2 years back are not there any more, in fact at one time only nfusion did not have public server. Charlie has come to Canada and closed some satellite shops, they cannot go after end users in Canada like they do in U.S. but can go after satellite shops. It should make clear why LeeSatt will not sell Pro. The only likely source for Pro in Canada would only be kijiji. Good luck with warranty for kijiji purchases, personally I would either walk in to a shop or get it online from a shop which has a published physical address.

Even if Pinwheel HD has public server support in place now, doubt if it will last after they have made some initial sales.

However has anyone who has tested Pro version, viewed any TV on Pinwheel HD public server?

ii) IPTV+VOD version is not designed to work in U.S. but believed to work from Canada and LeeSatt have not indicated that they will not sell it, however they are not selling it now and I would not be surprised if they update their website in the near future saying they will not sell it as well, since it supports public server.

One can understand how IPTV+VOD will not work from U.S. and works from Canada, can block U.S. originating IP's for legal reasons. Cannot watch ABC news Videos or shows from Canada and free proxies do not support streaming videos.

However if IPTV is supported , is it a free sub sharing provided by Pinwheel HD, from a IPTV provider, if so it may not last after initial sales, same goes from VOD as well.

What IPTV+VOD service's are currently supported by Pinwheel HD?

due to high number of legal problem, the public versions (PRO, and IPTV) are NOT available for USA market. The public system will NOT work inside USA! So if you want to test PINWHEEL HD inside USA, it is encouraged you to only purchase MINI version!

What about Canada? any dealer in Canada selling either PRO or IPTV+VOD?

try kijiji

no kijiji, for reasons mentioned in my post and also no info on either public server or iptv

I purchased a Pro on Ebay.ca or possibly it's a Mini with a pro file in it. There's no name on actual receiver. The box it came in has Pro written in felt pen. The file in it is 2.0 pro. I plugged it in and was surprised that before I entered my PS$ info I got a picture on South. I did enter my PS$ for North.

Thanks for sharing the info.

It corroborates what I posted earlier with regard to risks involved with regards to kijiji or e-bay purchases. It may not be a Pro that is imported, seller could have purchased a Mini from LeeSatt and installed a Pro file, it will help many if you can post answers to the following:

Did it have LS400 HD tuner installed?

How much did you pay?

Its 3 versions...hd has all 3 features on it, iptv ( great feature once fully implemented ), public p$ plus any private p$ can be added, i find once all is clear as dish pro, epg and iptv it will be the best box around i think ! Video is great ...

Glad to know you have not been scammed a lot, seller most probably:

a) got Mini for $199.99 CAN from LeeSatt,
b) installed Pro file - only to find no public North
c) kept the USB Wireless N wifi dongle that LeeSatt had included

Sold it on e-bay for some profit, could not have sold it for the price he was able to sell you, if he had represented the same as Mini.

Wouldn't be a surprise, if he is selling a USB Wireless N wifi dongle

Even though the hardware is identical
U cant interchange the files

Mini file for mini version
Pro file for pro version
Or iptv file for iptv version

fta4me

one dealer was kind enough for me test all three versions

i had to do this myself to clear all the confusions!

to my testing so far all three units

the hardware is 100% identical down to even a single capacitor - of course mac address are different on each unit - duh!

so there is no difference in hardware for each version

iptv version also comes with HDMI cables, RCA cables, network cable etc.

when i tried to interchange the files between units

there is no error, the files load fine but features are disabled

here's the breakdown

1 - MINI = enter your own north, south provider

2 - PRO = enter your own north, south provider + free public south provider (i am told, this unit works only in canada (private+public) but not in USA)

3 - IPTV = enter your own north, south provider + free public south provider + free public iptv channels (i am told, this unit works only in canada (private+public) but not in USA)

so if you are in canada
you should buy: mini, pro, iptv+vod

if you are in usa
you should buy : mini

VLC, shoutcast, rss, weather, nplayer, is available on ALL versions

the channel list .db file works for all units

so i backed the .db on mini and loaded on pro and iptv and worked well

the best feature i find again is vlc. my son plays PS3 on my main tv so he changes the source when my pinwheel is still on and tuned into a station, and i simply watch my program on my VLC enabled device

just my 2 cents
hope this clears it up.

Hardware is identical and features are disabled, on surface it is oxymoron. However hardware may look identical and BIOS could be different. Public Server registration could be controlled by MAC address.

I am still not able to find the manufacturer web URL for Pinwheel HD, most if not all fta boxes do have manufacturer web page at least - if not list of authorized dealers.

How can the pro or IPTV/VOD units not work in the USA? It doesn't know where it is located. Or is it "It doesn't work in the USA (Wink, Wink)". USA public? Someone please explain.

Same way when u try netflix website or abc website from canada

It detects ur request and denies access
very simple

So these guys probably disabled public access servers for usa originating ip address

I personally think its very good

implementing this request is super simple and doesnt require any major changes

As I have posted earlier, thought it is possible to use a Canadian proxy from U.S., it may be impossible to overcome the following problems:

IPTV+VOD

Forget free proxy servers - in sufficient bandwidth for any streaming whatsoever, paid proxy's provide bandwidth for streaming video, but pretty expensive.

Assumption: It is feasible to modify fta box to communicate through proxy and proxy address is not blocked

Pro

Looks promising to just get CW from Public Servers though proxy bandwidth may not be an issue, but freezing may likely to be due to slow down through proxy and feasibility of modifying your fta box to communicate with public server through proxy - not sure.

However especially if it is free proxy the proxy I.P. addresses are well known and can be blocked by the public server.

If one is in U.S. it would be wise to just not bother about above two versions. Even if one is in Canada need to take into account the track regard with regard to how long has the public server lasted after the box has been released.

Can some of you comment about the following?

1) I like Linux Boxes if in fact the Linux area is Open for USER development? Clearly the team has said that they has try to move some what away of the concept to simplify the setup for NONE Linux users. And this is good. But nobody has comment if the Linux system can Still be play with.

It is simple. Open Linux Boxes allow to Users to come with their Own Home Brew Addons and improvements. Are the team providing the tools needed to work with the Linux OS and Internal Data of the Box?

2) I have not found an Official Web Site for this Team Support? Any one knows?

3)I have not seen a lot of info in the Box Specs. We know the Box do Turbo 8psk, But can It do regular DVB-S2 HD too? What a about OTA ATSC?

Thanks in Advance.

Only thing I can say from my experience is that it does dvb s and s2 (mpeg4)

The 8psk turbo fec tuner board is removable and th3 3rd party tuner does regular fta plus dvb s2
