Need help with me jynxbox m3

I did a reset on my box and downloaded xmbc but the file will not open to install do I need a file to open files on my m3 box?

was the file a apk file or was it zip or rar.

Lucky I saved the original xbmc on my sd card, so I installed that way and works good now.
As for the file it was a zip so do I need an app to un zip it.

The file manager that comes with the device can uncompress the zip file. Open the file manager, locate the zip file and long press on it, a menu will pop up and choose uncompress.
