Just wondering if I should put money into a system right now from scratch. It would probably cost me $400+ to get it installed. I was thinking about getting the new Dreamlink with 110 and 119. So I'm wondering what you guys think the longevity of IKS will be?

Thanks

Just speculating here but I figure 2 yrs max. It could be gone tomorrow as well. You might want to look at streaming media FTA units. That way when IKS does die your box is not a doorstop or boat anchor.

Depending on the type of box even at 400 you got your money's worth after 1 yr.

Good to know. I already have a couple of media players so I'm not worried about that. The main reason I want it is for NFL. Do you know if the local channels for the main networks are available on Charlie?

You can also go with a "C" and "Ku" band linear setup, (you need a 10 foot dish for "C" band) that way you can pick up on some of the NFL feeds for free, and you don't have to worry about getting a letter in the mail.

What would be needed would be a 10 foot dish, (called a BUD, lots are lying around in back yard rotting away, most will let you haul it away for free) a "C"/"Ku" band LNBF for the BUD, a linear motor interface for the FTA receiver (called a K or V box) and a good receiver that can do all the RF modes, this will get you into the wonderful world of the Clark belt, as far as you can see East to as far as you can see West, there are lots of satellites waiting for exploration.

And as far as local channels have you tried a TV antenna on your HDTV?

So I would need an additional dish to get c and ku? I don't think I could get those in Nova Scotia. I meant local channels in regards to the nfl so I could choose any CBS or Fox channel across the U.S. I remember I could do that before IKS but not sure if that's still possible.

Sit tight until Terryl or Costactc are back on. They are the gurus for that type of set up.

If you wanted to set up a smaller dish for 91 and 82 or just 91 you would get all those channels with a good bev p$.

Plus Sunday ticket on the good north services.

Oops, sorry. Maybe not NS locals but the networks.

A 10' mesh bud with a c/ku band lnbf will have you scanning in network channels and even local Canadian channels. The good thing about this type of setup is that it's free and totally legit. I watch Canadian locals on Anik F1R at 107.3w and all US net channels mainly on Galaxy 16 at 99w. Others are also scattered across the arc.

Just found out what a 10' mesh bud is. That is way too big for me to use. So will have to go with Charlie or BEV.

I thought that BEV wasn't working properly on iks yet. That would be pretty good if I could get sunday ticket. How about Charlie are all the local networks from around the U.S. available?

There are 1 or 2 great services for bev. On DN you will not get network locals only distant with iks.

What do you mean by distant? I don't want all the local networks but at least one in each NFL team region.

not going to happen, there are no locals available on DN like that. your best bet is to grab a provider with the northern service that has sunday ticket up and running
