I have one of the first I-hubs that came out right after the big ecm. Can I still use it? What would I need for this to work?

Yes, you can use it but you need to update it to 4.12.

That's good news. Thanks. How do I go about getting codes for the I-hub?

you will need a private $erver to get scramble channel, first you need to check what version file is on your stb and on the ihub.

No way to have them run together with SV.
One server at a time and you have to manually chose which one.

Look here for updating:

I'll bet you failed to hook straight into your lan port and you tried it through your network didn't you ?
Whatever you did, you most likely bricked the dongle.
Go back to the updating link and follow the instructions again.
There's a good chance your now at version 82 or 82.9.

How do I do it straight through a LAN port? I have a bridge. So I should have brought the receiver ino my office and hooked it up to my receiver through an own port on my router? I don't understand. I tred it again and wiz hub can't find the receiver. How o I backtrack it?

I don't understand what you mean put it in the LAN port on computer. I only have one port and that's where the Internet goes in. Is that where the line is supposed to go?

If I have bricked the dongle then I am screwed. I don't have money tobuy another dongle.

Your dongle is fixable.
If your hardwired from your computer to router, remove that connection (for now) and plug in the dongle instead (into the computer). It's the only hole in your computer the data cable will plug into.
Use Wiz to locate the dongle after your hardwired from the lan (local area network) port.
