sound off on some channels in surround

I have a samsung HD TV and a blu ray player also samsung. Seems on some channels i can only get audio through the tv yet when i go to others the blu ray surround kicks in very very odd. I am running hdmi to the tv and opticle to the surround sound. I am really confused as to why this is happeneing

Make sure SDIF is turned on in the menu under options

Try going to Menu/Config/A/V output and make sure that you have the HDMI audio out set to PCM and the SPDIF to ON. If that is correct look for settings on your audio/video receiver.
