View Full Version : mounting a BUD on a pole.
hi guys. . .
have any of you guys every mounted a BUD onto a pole which is really high without a crane of some kind? i see in more of the pictures that guys mount there low, i dont really have that option here and you mostly find them 20+ in the air.
the guys here build a tool which they clamp to the pole and wine/wrench it up.
i have only gotton to see this tool once and would like to make one.
if anyone has any other ideas let me know.
thanks

What your looking for is called a GIN pole, all it is, is a 2" or larger mast (I use 2" ridged conduit) with a pulley mounted at the top, it also has a mast clamp at the bottom to temporarily fix it in place, it is usually 10 feet in length and mounted so the top pulley is higher then the object to be raised and mounted.
Here is a link to take a look at one.

this is half of what im looking for. . .but we are pointing in the right direction. . .
from what i read so far this method needs two persons, the ones the guy here used he does it him self. . .its like when he wined up the pulley its on some kind of rachet and it locks until the next wined.
any ideas on this one?
i need to find a winch like this one. . .

Using a couple of pulleys you can use a truck's bumper hitch and pull anything (up to the limit of the cable and pulley) up or down. (two person operation)
Another thing to use what is called a come-a-long, using a fixed point (bumper hitch) you can lift up to the weight limit of the pulley on the GIN pole and the cable/rope you using to lift with. (one person operation)

You can get one at any boat shop, make sure it has a clutch for reversing the operation.
