Houston police officer shot in west Houston

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A Houston police officer has been shot during an incident in west Houston.
The officer is believed to have confronted someone in the Alexan Bunker Hill apartments on Pine Lake at Bunker Hill just before noon today. The officer, who was in plain clothes, appeared to be alert as he was taken out by stretcher. An HPD spokesperson says the officer was working a second job at the time of the shooting.
The details of the incident still are not clear, but a neighbor who lives in a house near the apartment complex tells Eyewitness News he heard several shots fired. He added that the neighborhood has been having problems with graffiti and car break-ins lately.
The wounded officer was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital by ambulance, with a full police escort. There's no official word on his condition.
K-9 units have been brought to the scene and HPD's homicide unit has been called out. A pickup connected to the shooting was located in a field near a furniture store on Highway 290 near Jones Road. Police have two people in custody, but it's not yet known if they are considered suspects. They are being taken to headquarters for questioning.
