In ads. of Pinwheel it said you can-
Simply download FREE VLC media player on any device (windows, mac, iphone, andriod) and type the URL of receiver with port 9000 (File, Open Network Stream)
Code:
http://boxip:9000
I don't really understand this.
So what does that do ?
http://boxip:9000
Play the video what you would see on Pinwheel HD like Slingplayer app. on any Apple device or Android device ?
Or are they talking about playing any video or audio file on your network, like if you had a network drive and play files from it which you can do without using Pinwheel, but you can do this on vlc without using Pinwheel so I don't know what the point of it ?
Thanks

if your Pinwheel HD is getting the IP address 192.168.0.6 from your router, open VLC http://192.168.0.6:9000
for internal addresses, you don't need to forward any ports on the router.
however, if you want to access the stream from outside your network (eg, The Internet), forward port 9000 to the Pinwheel. I did this last week, I streamed WWE Survivor Series SD from my receiver in <not Toronto> to my brother's laptop in Toronto. I was going to stream the HD feed, but I don't have the upload speed required.
you can make a playlist to open the IP address for you. copy and paste this to Notepad or other text editor and save it as Pinwheel-local-stream.xspf
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<playlist xmlns="http://xspf.org/ns/0/" xmlns:vlc="http://www.videolan.org/vlc/playlist/ns/0/" version="1">

Log into your router and click on "Applications & Gaming".

Make sure to untick "Enable" whenever you don't want people watching what you're watching. This will close the port to outsiders. As mentioned earlier, if you're just going to do to local streaming, you don't need to forward any ports.

I am using on my computer Windows xp and I am connected to the network via wireless usb adapter..
My firewall in Windows is on.
Even if I local stream, don't I need to enable anything on Windows firewall in order for it to live stream on my computer ?

There is a no cost option (you do have to goto their site every month or so. Or you can buy a year service for about $10 and then you do not have to goto their site.

I had to port forward the I.P. address of Pinwheel.
It worked on my network too, but not externally.
You don't use router ?
In setup when I logged in my linksys router.
I have to go to Settings, Application and Gaming.
You have to add port forward you I.P. address of your Pinwheel and put down 9000 as port to forward to.
Type "what is my i.p." in google and use that i.p. address.
on
http://youripaddressheredisplayedingoogle:9000 to vlc player.
Should be able to live stream that way, but I didn't get it to work.

You have to buy Slingbox and use a Slingplayer app . on your Apple or Android device, then you would be able to do so.
Configure it with the C2010_RV.bin inside remotePinwheel HD Mini.zip file posted in files section
Slingbox works great with Pinwheel. In fact the virtual remote app. works and responds better than the crappy remote that comes with Pinwheel which many times doesn't repond when I press the buttons.
You can even help people configure their antenna satellite settings and scan channels with it, if other party has the Slingbox properly installed and setup.

Yes i tried the vlc for streaming i find it personally useless for me as i don't want to watch only the one channel that is selected on the pinwheel with no option to change it. i have a slingbox and there is no streaming issues outside the network as far as freeze streaming like the vlc on or off 3G or 4G, the remote works awesome guide ect and you can even turn on and off the pinwheel from anywhere with the sling i know the sling app for the phone is a little expensive but if you have a android or a jailbroken iphone the app is a non issue as with a little looking you can find the app. So for me streaming to my devices there is no option other than Sling it is the way to go.

To me there is not a lot of difference between 2.8 and 2.9. I backed off to 2.8 today and was able to watch a PPV movie on my big screen in the living room using VLC and my Apple TV. I'm hoping a new file comes out soon to address some of the issues.

Setup the remote with "Pick" button on the webpage
Select "Satellite"
Select "Custom"
The next screen will instruct you to add the location of the C2010_PL.bin file on your c: drive. Put the directory location and you'll be able to use the remote.
I have it working just fine with my Slingbox 350. I just having problem with the component video input not showing up. Audio is working great though.

I don't get what you mean. If your VLC is freezing it indicates that your connection is poor, out of range etc. Internet has no bearing because it is your LAN that is carrying the signal either wireless or wired. Now if your receiver is freezing on the channel you are on it will also be frozen on VLC on your computer.
BanHammer
12-27-2013, 07:57 PM
The reason that it's freezing over the internet is because your connection is being bottle-necked. Your upload speed (1.5mbps) isn't good enough to stream uncompressed HD video. You should be able to...

Is freeze on SD via my IP on friend computer :/ on lan with my computer no problem on HD!
the only advice I can give you then, is to call your internet provider and upgrade the package you've got for faster download and upload speeds.
it will always be freeze-free on LAN because there is no ISP imposing speed limits.
