vip 211

hi folks, I have a shot of getting a modded vip 211 with avr board for a good price. It's said to be good to go with a netbook and iks setup. .also said he'll toss in a wrt54 router. I am new to iks, but I remember seeing that modded vip's are much better than a new hd stb.. Is this true, and can someone point me to he right section to research this . thx. to all. cheers.

If ird is not on locked fw, its not going to run properly and will have to be sent out to be remodded. I see add on kijiji.

Make sure (as pointed out above) firmware is previuos revision & locked there.Also external hd feature has to be enabled in eeprom if you want that feature, & hdcp error dealt with (hdmi enabled) if your tv is hdmi only.All those things done, the vip will blow any fta out of the water.

Thanks for the reply. How does a newbie find out if the ird is on locked firmware or not? . Is there any shops in or around Toronto that does these mods if needed? thx.

Thanks for the info, I will have to check with the seller about all of this. I do not know how to change or even check any of these problems you guys have mentioned. I thought I was getting a good deal on the 211 for $100, but it's ng if your concerns aren't confirmd. I really liked what you guys both said about it being the bomb, once set up right. With me not knowing these fixes, should I be looking at a dl t5 or similar hd box or buy this, and read, read, read, and hope with help it all works out. Can someone point me to the areas to research. Thanks again. cheers.

If you like a challenge and a learning curve then the oem will be fun, providing all the mods are done. The picture quality and epg are great on the T5 and it's as close to plug and play as it gets.

The vip 211 was running great in march, 2013. it was running with an avr interface and plugged in to a pc. Since the 211 was already running, Shouldn't this mean that the ird is locked on firmware from march?/ Also, what's involved in getting the wrt54 router to do the job without a pc running, thx. cheers.

I messaged him and its not locked down and is on fw L566, router is modded and openwrt installed, needs fsec.
