Mercedes has employed two key engineers from Red Bull Racing.

Mark Ellis is to be performance director, while Giles Wood will be chief engineer, simulation and development. Both will join in June.

Ellis is in effect returning home, having previously worked for the team in its BAR Honda days as head of mechanical design in 2000 and 2001. After a spell at Jaguar, he had another stint at BAR Honda as chief engineer from 2002-2008.

McLaren has already raided Red Bull, having signed up aero chief Peter Prodromou.

Meanwhile, Lotus continues to lose personnel. If employee contracts have been breached by late payments, they may walk straight into new jobs without gardening leave.
