I had a heck of a time setting all this up, but I got it, and wanted to share the story on what I did to get everything working ..
First off, I have a 15 DBI grid dish using CA-400 cable and an Access Point and a wireless router.. I found out that I had to Manually configure lan settings on my pc in order to get the AP to respond,as I have had problems getting into admin panel , for my AP I had to set lan settings to only get 192.168.1.xxx, then , and only then would it let me into admin panel for AP. Now, Because my new house is surrounded by tall trees , I had to put up a 30' pole and mount the grid dish to it and was able to pick up several networks, many unsecured , We will say that I connected to the local library ;) , but I couldn't get online, went through every setting to see what I was missing, I knew that I was missing something .... I decided to change the AP back to "bridge router" and reconnect to "library" , then changed back to AP mode, and then changed lan settings back to auto IP, and was only able to get icq instant messenger to load, but still couldn't get a page to load, I tried to get back into admin panel for AP using 192.168.1.1 ( default IP ) , but this time, it showed the router panel for "library" , but wouldn't let me in as I didn't / don't have that username and password, but this confirmed that I was in fact connected to that network...At that time, I unhooked the AP from my pc, and connected it to the wireless router , rebooted both, the AP and the router, and Bam....Free wifi...I now can pick up excellent signal from both pc, and laptop , I have the SonySat connected as well, though the server is currently down.,I have confidence that it will work great as well, and never have a bill ...I wanted to make this a little more detailed, but I hope that this could help anyone else try and do the same ...There are lots of free wifi out there, take some money and some time to learn how to harness more free stuff to use for your own, Enjoy~

ok ..
most routers (home owner ) are preconfigured 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1
on the LAN side ( side u plug in your network )
change YOUR side the LAN side to 192.168.50.1
the WAN side is going to be set @ DHCP
each side of a router needs to be configured on a different subnet ..or it will not work
The library is using same subnet as you
then to logon to YOUR router it will be 192.168.50.1

You are correct about the factory setting for most wireless routers, but the problem that I had was on the Access Point side, I had to change the tcp/ip properties to manually connect to the AP's IP , and then get into admin panel for the AP, connect to a network , and then change it back to Auto IP and then plug AP into router, and that's what got mine working....thanks for the input...

basically same thing access point has 2 sides .. like hooking up several routers .. in bridge mode though it would be as you discribed ..

I upgraded to a 25 DBi grid dish, but after a bad storm with wind, I lost the signal, I got the signal back , but had a heck of a time getting back online, I don't know what keeps stopping me, I have to go into the Access Point many times until I get it to work,
I set LAN to Static Ip..using AP IP..
Set AP To Bridge Router, goto site survey, connect to network
Set back to Access Point...
return LAN to Auto (dchp)
and then , I should be able to access network router ( the one that I connect too )
when I can log into other router, I am then able to get online..
But this takes many, many, many tries, and I am not sure why, I do nothing different each time, but sometimes it works, others it don't ....any input why ? as this could help me in the future if I get bumped off again...
Thanks...

I understand what you are saying, but my router is already set to a different ip than the source ...it's the AP that has the same, and that's only in bridge router mode, in AP mode , it's a different IP as well...

Also, I am only using lan side for configuring the setup, Once I have it set, I plug AP into a wireless router and connect on the wireless side , except for the SS which is working with this setup also

just so i am clear ......you said "but my router is already set to a different ip than the source" ... but you are on the same subnet, .... 192.168.X.0 /24 = (255.255.255.0 )

anything that is 192.168.0.0 is a NON routable address on the internet everybody has that
also the network 10.x.x.x or 172.168.x.x
they are class a class b and class c networks and are not routable on the internet
Don't post DNS info if it is not those numbers
ok ..basically you have used a "network" number that every body uses 192.168.1.0 or 192.168.1.0
that is the issue and why you must "bridge"it
set the AP on the lan side to 192.168.75.1 255.255.255.0
wifi is DHCP
on your router on the WAN side set it to 192.168.75.100 255.255.255.0
on the LAN side of your outer
192.168.50.1 255.255.255.0
enable DHCP on the LAN side of your router
reboot router, then reboot computer
you should get an ip addy from YOUR router in the .50.xxx range
now to log into the router it is 192.168.50.1
log onto the AP 192.168.50.1
No bridging
so now when you search for networks they will more than likely be in the 192.168.1.0 or 192.168.1.0
and there will be no conflicts
also help to put a piece of tape on each router and mark the IP addresses

The only thing that I didn't like about the Engenious was the connector needed , which is a "Tnc" style connector female, I had to go to a special dealer to get it , and it wasn't that cheap...like $25.00 for one connector...

With these grid antennas, what is the useable range? Does it need line of sight? In your post above, it refers to a server in Dallas at 1100 miles distant, is that through your antenna or from a local AP?

First, depends on attn. that you have, mine has a line ( clear line of sight ) up to 5 miles , hence why I have it sooo high up, the record is with using a 10' dish is 125 miles , speedtest is a server to check the speed of your connection to make sure that you are getting what you "pay" for...
You can use a smaller attn. to pick up something much closer ( about a mile ) with a clear line of sight

Living where I do, I have a clear line of sight to a repeater station. Don't know if there is an open AP. Would be a gamble to get an antenna and cable with connectors only to find out I'm out of luck. It's around a $500 bill to get hooked up here abouts with a monthly of $50 to $60.
Thanks

If you , or someone that you know has a laptop, you could drive to that repeater and see if it's an open network , that way you wouldn't have to spend anything until you knew if it would work....

Just to add a foot-note:
Make sure that you have both , the Access point, and your router secured , otherwise, you can be found by the person that you are connecting too very easily ...
