View Full Version : Strange issue

I have the following setup
91W on port 1
110 on port 2
118/119 on port 3
empty port 4

The receiver sees 1 & 2 correctly, but on port 3 It detects 91W instead of 119 or 118

LNB for 91W and 110W is DSS Dual Circular LNB set to 11250
LNB for 118/119 is Special Circular LNB to catch 119 &118 set to 10750
Switch is 4x1 EMP Centauri Diseqc

What could be causing this issue?

Wiring was verified a few times. If I unplug port 1. It only detects Port 2. And nothing on port 3.

Thanks

You mean LNB's (one each) for 91 and 110, your using two DSS Dual output circular LNB's right?
Are they the old style legacy LNB's, DP LNB's or someone else's LNB?

And the LNB for 118/119 is made by whom?

If the LNB's for 91 and 110 are the old style legacy LNB then your using the wrong switch, you would be mixing LNB types, as the one for 118/119 is a standard LNB, (or the one from dish) that always causes big headaches.

im not using legacy LNB's. neither DP lnb's. Its all standard Focus LNB's
And yes im using one LNB per Sat.

So they are all standard LNB's even the one for 118/119?

Then it's ether a bad switch, not enought DC power to the LNB's to switch right, (switch is trying to power all LNB's at once, or the coax is too long) wrong LNB type selected in the sat menus, or the switch may need to be grounded.

The LNB for the 118/119 is a special one to get both sats at once. Set to Single 10750

Already tried 2 different switchs. Also changed position of the cables vs ports.
LNB type is set to Single and then all I select is either 11250 or 10750.
My setup is grounded. But the only thing is that the cable between the LNB from the 91W
and the 4x1 switch is 30Feet long.

It could be a ground loop problem, the LNB/dish further out needs to be grounded by a 12 to 10 gauge copper wire, (the coax shield is not that good of a ground) next would be the dish with the 110/118/119 LNB mounted on it, next the switch, these three grounds need to go to the shortest ground point, but need to be connected at one single point only.

What type of ground point are you useing?

Earth ground, water pipe ground, AC service ground, what?

It would look something like this:

Furthest piece of equipment from ground >>>> next closest piece of equipment to ground >>>> next closest piece of equipment to ground >>>> ground.

12 gauge copper wire (with a green PVC cover) can be used on the two dishes and switch, bond the three wires to one piece of 10 gauge copper wire using a split bolt, this wire is then tied to the ground point.

Ground is done with a 12 gauge copper wire to a pipe to the earth ground.

So basically the missing grounding from the 91W wire could be causing this?

On the receiver it sees 91W on port 1/3/4 even if it connected to port one
110W works great on port 2.

Should I put 91W on another port?
Like 110W on 1/ 118+119 on 2 / 91 on 4 / leave 3 empty

Yes the missing or poor ground to the other system could be causing this, a ground loop can interfere with the 22 kHz control signals from the receiver to the switch.

You can use a ground block (make sure it's for a satellite system and not CATV or off air TV) at the 91 dish and run a new 12 gauge wire to your existing ground

And because your not using dish LNB's you can use any port you want on the switch.

Note, a ground may or may not fix this problem, but it wouldn't hurt.

Ground was done on the Bev Dish.
But problem still there. Tried 3 different switches same issue.
Tried different ports configuration same issue

In fact, everything works until I go in the Receiver and I try to setup or scan 91W.
If I do so, them it will no longer see what's on the other ports. It will see 91W on all ports.

If I only setup 110/118/119... everything works great.
As soon I try to set 91W... all goes wrong!

Only way to fix... is to power down the receiver.

And yes I tried another receiver/different brand... Same thing! ;)

I'm having the exact same issue. only one sat being reported on all ports mine is 110 each lnb connected direct work fine but never through a switch, multiple switches tried same results

Had this many times and just replaced the 91 LNB
Ron 76 just replace 110 LNB

"Strange issue"--man, I had that one time on a road trip. Uck! And the smell!
