View Full Version : Hi, I need help please!
Hello All,
I am very new to all of this. I am hoping that you all could help me get set up so that I can get TV like you have.
What I need to know is basically everything! Could you please advise me as to what the best HD PVR receiver is to get. I am hoping to feed two different TV's from it, and hopefully be able to watch different channels on each one.
Also, I need to know the type/or size of dish to get along with LNB information and anything else I may need.
I am in Canada and am not sure where to start to get everything I need to get up and running.
Any information on all of this is greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much,
Indy

If you want to watch different channels, then you will need two receivers.
Most of Canada you can use old bell dishes to receive dn and or bev which can be most anywhere including the dump but can be bought new online. They are equipped with legacy l n b and if you get one with two l n b they have the proper spacing for 110 and 119 which is dn or 91 and 82(<HD. high definition). If you want all satellites you will need two dishes. There are some dishes you can purchase on line that claim they will get all 4 satellites but with that many l n b and having to have coordinates exact, I would stick with the two dishes. That is just my opinion and I'm sure someone will disagree. There are sites online that will give you coordinates for your location and also dish sizes.
This is a hobby and you are expected to read and learn. There are many forums on this site with information on various aspects of this hobby. Read and if you get stuck, ask in that forum for help but don't expect to be spoon fed throughout the whole process. Good luck

This is supposed to be some what of a hobby where members learn a little something honestly, not how to fraudulently take advantage of a company by having them install a dish and then cancel contract. That is inviting big trouble. jmo

Hi Indy, welcome to the site.
The best way is to use 2 receivers fed off a dish with a DP twin LNB on it, a Dish 500 will do this just fine, as far as the receiver's your going to have to look at some of the reviews on them, there are many many different ones to pick from.
I don't know of any FTA receiver that will feed two TV's with different programing from different satellites or transponders.
The only receivers that I know of that can do this are the ones from Bell, (and Dish) but that requires a subscription, or a modified providers receiver, and we can't help you with that.
A Dish 500 with a DP twin LNB on it will get you 82 and 91, these satellites provide programing for Canada, the DP twin LNB will run 2 separate receivers, but you have to use 2 separate coaxes to do this.

It is all about lots of headaches, but at the and is fun.
1- Install your dish
2- Buy a receiver
3- Set it up
4- Find server
5- Take care of server
6- Watch TV.
