View Full Version : Pacquiao-Bradley II set after controversy

Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao and welterweight titlist Timothy Bradley Jr., whose June 2012 fight will go down as one of the most controversial decisions in boxing history, will meet again.

Bradley agreed to terms on Saturday, a week after Pacquiao did the same, to set up their sequel, which will take place on April 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told ESPN.com.
"I finished the deal with Pacquiao last week and [Top Rank president] Todd [duBoef] finished with Bradley [Saturday]," Arum said.
[+] Enlargehttp://a.espncdn.com/photo/2013/1005/box_g_tbrad1_cr_300x200.jpgJoe Klamar/AFP/GettyImagesManny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley, whose fight in 2012 ended with a controversial decision, will fight again in April.

As part of the deal, Bradley, due to become a promotional free agent at the end of the year, extended his contract with Top Rank, duBoef told ESPN.com. Arum said that the formal news conference to announce the fight is scheduled for Feb. 4 in New York with a second news conference to be held in Los Angeles either the next day or two days later.
Arum said Pacquiao will be guaranteed $20 million -- a $6 million cut from the first fight -- and that Bradley would receive $6 million, a $1 million raise from the first fight. Both fighters will also be cut in for an upside of the pay-per-view profits, Arum said. The first bout generated approximately 890,000 pay-per-view buys, according to Mark Taffet of HBO PPV.
When Pacquiao and Bradley met the first time, also at the MGM Grand, Bradley was awarded a split-decision victory that gave him a 147-pound world title and left the world in stunned disbelief over the 115-113 scorecards he received from judges Duane Ford and C.J. Ross. Jerry Roth had it 115-113 for Pacquiao and even that was too close for many.
The result caused such an outrage that the WBO, which sanctioned the title fight, held an independent review of the video and all judges scored it for Pacquiao. Arum, who strongly believed Pacquiao had won, asked for the Nevada attorney general to investigate the judges, which turned up nothing out of the ordinary. Ford and Ross were criticized around the world and Bradley, even though he had nothing to do with the scoring, received death threats from angry Pacquiao fans.
While the result of the first bout is bound to be heavily rehashed in the buildup to the rematch, Arum said he didn't think it would have much to do with the fight.
"My feeling is that if this were the next fight after their first fight then maybe the result would be really relevant," Arum said. "But it's a different Bradley now, having had that great fight with [Ruslan] Provodnikov and beating [Juan Manuel] Marquez. I sort of think what happened in the first fight, whether you think the result was just or unjust, is yesterday's news.
"If people want to bring up the first fight, let them bring it up. As far as I'm concerned it's irrelevant. I thought like everybody else that Pacquiao won the fight and I was shocked when I heard the result, but to me it's not relevant."

Rafael's Boxing Blog http://a.espncdn.com/i/columnists/rafael_dan_m.jpg

Bradley has fought twice since, outpointing Provodnikov in an epic slugfest in March that was the 2013 ESPN.com fight of the year and then outpointing Marquez in October.
The 35-year-old Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KOs), who has won world titles in a record eight weight classes and is also a congressman in the Philippines, has also fought twice and is a much different fighter now than he was then, getting knocked out cold by Marquez in the sixth round in December 2012 and returning to score a lopsided decision win in a tentative performance against Brandon Rios in November in Macau, China.
Bradley (31-0, 12 KOs), 30, of Palm Springs, Calif., got the fight over second-choice Provodnikov, who, after losing to Bradley, went on to win a junior welterweight world title from Mike Alvarado in October.
"Bradley really established himself and differentiated himself from the pack with the Provodnikov and Marquez wins and he really wanted this rematch. So did Manny," duBoef said. "They both wanted the fight. Manny wants to set the record straight about the first fight and Timmy wants to erase the thought that he was given a gift. He thinks he won legitimately the first time and he says he will do it again."
Arum said both fighters agreed to random blood and urine drug testing leading up to the fight to be conducted by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association, which is headed by Dr. Margaret Goodman, the former chief ringside doctor for the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Arum said Goodman would work closely with the commission every step of the way with regard to the testing.
Arum said when it comes time for the Nevada commission to select the judges and referee -- a point of significant interest for the fight, considering what happened the first time around -- he will ask that the panel consider officials besides just those who work in Nevada, which is how it has operated for years. However, commission executive director Keith Kizer, who championed that policy, stepped down this month.
"This fight will be regulated by a new executive director, whoever that may be, and I am going to ask that the commission cast as wide a net as possible for potential officials," Arum said. "I don't think they should be limited to just Nevada officials. Not the same old, same old. Hopefully, the commission will go along with that."
DuBoef negotiated the deal with Bradley and his wife, Monica, because Bradley's contract with longtime manager Cameron Dunkin expired and Bradley did not renew. Part of the talks for the fight included extending his Top Rank promotional deal. That means Bradley is off the table as a possible opponent for pound-for-pound for king and fellow welterweight titleholder Floyd Mayweather Jr. next year because he's with rivals Showtime and Golden Boy Promotions.
"We had conversations from the beginning about going forward to extend him beyond our current obligations," duBoef said. "The promotional deal was not an add-on. It was always part of the conversation. Now Timmy has a big, lucrative package deal that includes the Pacquiao fight and beyond. Monica and I have been dealing with it for a few weeks. I listened to their needs and they listened to mine and a fair deal was made by everybody."
Pacquiao's deal with Top Rank is due to expire at the end of the year, but Arum said the deal for the Bradley rematch does not include an extension.
"We are engaged in discussions on an extension, but we're not there yet," Arum said.

Don't look for too much excitement. As Marquez can attest to.
Hopefully this will stop all the nonsense of a Floyd vs Manny bout! Tired of it!!

In order to get respect from everyone Pac needs to erase that thing out of his record called Bradley. You know what, Bradley is a much better boxer than he was, so Pac better take this serious. After taking all the Ruskie gave him and prevailed, he's became a wall. Pac can't knock him out. Pac hasn't knockout anybody in ages. looking forward to this one........

As always Arum ran away from Bradley for a long time till he got the opportunity to screwed him for good by extending his stay with Top Rank after all the nasty treatment received by the promoter.

Bob Arum announces Pacquiao-Bradley undercard, but doubts fans care about undercard matches By Kevin Iole January 30, 2014 8:52 PM Boxing

Top Rank chairman Bob Arum has taken a lot of heat recently from boxing fans and media for putting weak undercards on the pay-per-view bouts his company promotes. The boxing media has been in an uproar since Top Rank put on back-to-back dismal undercards on pay-per-view shows featuring Timothy Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez in October and Manny Pacquiao and Brandon Rios in November.
Now, Arum is pitting the winners of those bouts, Bradley and Pacquiao, in a rematch at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on April 12 in the main event of an HBO Pay-Per-View.
He told Yahoo Sports on Thursday he'd made three fights that will appear underneath Pacquiao-Bradley on the PPV undercard: Ray Beltran-Rocky Martinez in a lightweight title eliminator; Khabib Allakhverdiev against Jessie Vargas for the WBA super lightweight belt; and Bryan Vasquez against Jose Felix for the interim WBA super featherweight title.
Arum, though, isn't sure how much, if anything, the fights will add to the show's pay-per-view sales.
"In theory, yes, it makes sense to say, let's go get a lot of good, interesting fights and put them on the [pay-per-view] undercard, but the truth is – and I've been doing this a long, long time – 90 percent of the people don't want to see the undercard and don't care about it," Arum said. "But there is a point to the argument that we should give the other 10 percent something to watch that they'll enjoy, so we decided to try to put together a fun card for them."
Arum was adamant that his research shows the vast majority of consumers buy pay-per-view cards based upon their interest in the main event. He said he also has personal experience. Arum said he attended a party to watch the Floyd Mayweather-Canelo Alvarez pay-per-view and said not many guests seemed interested in watching the very heavily praised undercard, which featured Danny Garcia against Lucas Matthysse.
"People are eating, talking to each other, having a drink, having fun, and they don't give a [expletive] about the undercard," Arum said. "Even in the arena, you're lucky to get the people in there for the semi-main."
To my way of thinking, the undercard shouldn't necessarily be viewed as a way to sell additional pay-per-views, but to A) give the consumers more for their money and B) create new fans who may see exciting fights they weren't expecting.
How much does the quality of the undercard influence your decision? If you love the main event but you think the undercard is terrible, will you pass on the show? Is there any way the undercard convinces you to buy?
Let us know in the comments below.

My comment:
Bob and Pac are back in Vegas, the move to China wasn't what they expected. I see a happy family with the IRS in pursued of a few millions, don't know what are they happy about. I would be serious about this move to Vegas where two things can happen, they can lose to the actual welterweight champ or since they are in PBF's city, he may feel sorry for them and give them a brake to make the mills they need to pay.:innocent: His undercard seems like a payback for past due favors such as Rocky Martinez giving away his title to someone that never earned it. Saying that the fans wouldn't care about the boxers involved in it is a disrespect to the people paying to see this match. But who cares, we all know who this Dude is.

Bradley improved by gaining experience in his last 2 fights, speed and chin were tested and he passed the test. Manny didn't impress with a decision against a toe to toe zombie that took all he had and didn't go down. Pac is fighting a brand new World Champ not the boxer he (beat) the last time. His boxing career is on jeopardy this time, one more visit to the canvas may pay his taxes but it all be over.

Bradley: I’m going to erase doubts in people’s minds in Pacquiao rematch
By Rob Smith | Published February 2, 2014 |

WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (31-0, 12 KO’s) is still bothered that boxing fans don’t believe he rightfully beat Filipino Manny Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KO’s) in their fight in 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada. It bothers Bradley that he’s seen as a paper champion and not a legitimate one in people’s minds because of two judges giving him a close decision that pretty much the entire world disagreed with.

“He is the superstar and he is the icon, the legend,” Bradley said to the Manila Bulletin. “He is still the top dog. I am just happy to get this chance to fight Manny again. I will make it official (this time) to erase it on people’s minds. I am much tougher now.”

Pacquiao isn’t seen as the top dog anymore, but if it makes Bradley feel good to believe that then so be it. Pacquiao is seen more as the No.2 dog now behind Floyd Mayweather Jr., and you can make an argument that Pacquiao might not even be the No. 2 guy because we don’t know how he’d do against a slugger like Marcos Maidana or a huge welterweight like Keith Thurman.

We’ll probably never find that out unfortunately, because the next time that Pacquiao re-signs with Top Rank at the end of 2014 will pretty much take the 35-year-old Pacquiao to the end of his career. In other words, he’ll never be free to fight any of Golden Boy Promotions top fighters until it’s far too late to be interesting.

Bradley is going to need to fight a lot better than he did in his previous fight against Pacquiao if he wants to beat him in the rematch. If all Bradley can do is fight at the same level he did the last time they fought, then Bradley will likely lose by an 8 rounds to 4 margin. You’re not going to get another set of judges that are going to see Bradley dominated and give him the decision again. That was a one time thing, believe me.

If Bradley wants to beat Pacquiao in the rematch then he’s going to need to show a side of his game that he’s not shown yet. The Bradley that beat Juan Manuel Marquez and Ruslan Provodnikov will lose handily to Pacquiao in the rematch. Bradley needs to find some power somewhere. I’m not sure where he’s going to get it at 30, but that’s what he needs. Without power, Bradley will be left to run around the ring for 12 rounds trying to avoid getting hit. He won’t be able to win rounds fighting like that, and he’ll be lucky to win 3 rounds on April 12th.

I feel Pac is the one that needs to win this event, Bradley holds a Title. He did feel Pac's power and ended up standing once before as Rio's also did. Bradley wanted this for a long time, Arum and Manny ducked for a while. Only time will tell.

Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley are both seeking redemption in their rematch. (AP)

Manny Pacquiao arrived at Los Angeles International Airport late Monday, and in one regard, nothing had changed. A small army of photographers and reporters greeted him and fans squealed with delight when they caught sight of him.
But it was a much different Pacquiao who arrived for a Tuesday news conference at the Beverly Hills Hotel to formally announce an April12 rematch at the MGM Grand in Vegas on HBO Pay per View with Timothy Bradley.

Pacquiao hasn't scored a finish in more than four years, since he stopped Miguel Cotto on Nov. 14, 2009. He hasn't come close since he routed Antonio Margarito on Nov. 13, 2010.

He's a vastly different fighter, and it's telling in his pay-per-view performance. His bout against Brandon Rios on Nov. 23 in Macau, China, sold approximately 475,000 pay-per-view units, less than half of what he sold in his heyday.
Unquestionably, sales were hurt by the fight's location in Asia. For some reason, pay-per-view shows being sold to a U.S. audience are hurt by 25 percent, or a bit more, when the fight is held outside the country.
That's been true for years, yet it doesn't fully explain Pacquiao's demise as a pay-per-view superstar.
Adding the extra 25 percent would have brought the show to 594,000, still a very high number by most standards but a stunningly low figure for a Pacquiao fight.
http://l2.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/DJ1zeHeBNt56IlCEhm5g3w--/YXBwaWQ9eW5ld3M7cT04NTt3PTMxMA--/http://media.zenfs.com/en_us/Sports/ap/201402041539563829725Has Manny Pacquiao lost his killer instinct? (AP)

It's attributable almost completely to Pacquiao's change in performance. He's no longer the dynamic, aggressive fighter who stormed up from flyweight to capture a super welterweight title.
He's become cautious and tentative, unwilling against Rios to step on the accelerator to try to finish a man he'd had on the ropes.
Pacquiao was far quicker than Rios and that advantage allowed Pacquiao to blast off shots and then step out of harm's way of Rios' thudding shots.
When Floyd Mayweather Jr. puts on a boxing clinic like that, he's universally praised for it, but it's comparing different things. Mayweather is one of the greatest technical boxers ever; Pacquiao's popularity was built upon his aggressiveness and power.
The bout with Bradley is a rematch of a 2012 bout that most, myself included, believe Pacquiao won handily.

Bradley injured both of his feet in that bout, however, and couldn't move like he wanted and Pacquiao still couldn't stop him, or even come close.

Pacquiao has long held the opinion that Bradley ran, which is part of the rationale why they didn't fight again later in 2012, and he made the same point on Monday.
"I had a feeling in training camp that he would run from me once he felt my power, and he did … after the third or fourth round," Pacquiao said.
Bradley didn't run, and honestly could not do so with his two injured feet.
For anyone who would suggest that Bradley was afraid the first time or will be somehow fearful the second time, pop in the DVD of Bradley's fight last year with Ruslan Provodnikov.
http://l3.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/ukWgCFqRHIbamBwDbWAVGg--/YXBwaWQ9eW5ld3M7cT04NTt3PTMxMA--/http://l.yimg.com/os/publish-images/sports/2014-01-25/13b99309-13c4-4c50-ac23-5c2ef736edee_pacmanbradley800_125getty.jpgThe first decision between Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley brought widespread cries of corruption. (Getty)

That was the 2013 Fight of the Year and featured Bradley standing toe-to-toe slugging it out with one of the sport's hardest punchers. Pacquiao's words are hollow because he's the guy who, time and again, has failed to take advantage of openings. His trainer, Freddie Roach, said he's too compassionate and doesn't want to hurt his opponents.
Perhaps that's true, and Roach is among the closest friends Pacquiao has, but his compassion didn't stop him in his previous matches.
Bradley has seen it firsthand and witnessed when he watched the Rios pay-per-view.
"Manny didn't look the same against Rios," Bradley said. "He didn't have his usual killer instinct. That's the first thing I noticed. I don't think he has the hunger anymore and it's never coming back. He no longer has his killer instinct.
"That's the first thing I noticed in the Rios fight. Every time he backed Rios into a corner, Manny stepped back instead of going for it. He didn't even try to put Rios away. That spoke volumes to me."

Pacquiao's fans are noticing, as well. Top Rank has guaranteed Pacquiao $20 million plus upside for this pay-per-view and it's reasonable to expect more for that kind of money than for a guy to try to play it safe and win on points.
That, though, is the fighter that Manny Pacquiao has become.
The reason the world became so enamored with a fight against Mayweather in the first place was because it would pit Mayweather sublime boxing ability and defensive genius against Pacquiao's blazingly fast hands and his vicious assault.
Pacquiao needs to become that fighter again, or his days as a pay-per-view megastar are soon to be over.

Me and other smart boxing annalist, come to this conclusion.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has long been regarded as the best fighter in the world, even by those who aren't particularly fond of his style. The Boxing Writers Association of America on Tuesday named him its 2013 Fighter of the Year after he scored wide unanimous decision victories last year over Robert Guerrero and Canelo Alvarez. :comfort1:

Some more...........from roach

"He's felt it was enough to just win his fights, and he didn't see the need to hurt the guys," Roach said, attempting to explain Pacquiao's lack of finishes. "Maybe it's a little bit of the Bible. I've had a lot of talks with him and I'm sure it's not going to happen again.

"Tim Bradley told Manny he thought he lost the killer instinct and, frankly, Manny got pissed off at that. He thought it was disrespectful."
At some point, though, talk has to turn into action. Pacquiao and his team can't expect fans to keep buying his pay-per-views if he keeps promising to be the devastating wrecking machine he once was and then fails to deliver.

Pacquiao back with Justin Fortune to get ready for Bradley
February 17th, 2014 |

By Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KO’s) will be helped out with his training by strength and conditioning coach Justin Fortune when Pacquiao arrives back in the United States to start working out at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles, California. Pacquiao recently let go his valuable S & C coach Alex Ariza, the guy who arguably was responsible for making Pacquiao a success at welterweight.

Ariza lasted 4 years with Pacquiao from 2008 to 2012 before falling out with trainer Freddie Roach led to his dismissal. Now that Ariza is gone, Pacquiao is in need of a new S & C coach, and that’s where Fortune comes in.

Fortune needs to try and get Pacquiao to where he was around the time that he fought Miguel Cotto in 2009. He was at his best during that brief moment, and ever since then, Pacquiao hasn’t looked the same. The strength and fire seem to be gone from his body, and he just looks tired a lot of the time.

Fortune was Pacquiao’s conditioning coach years ago before Ariza took over the job, and he was successful in helping Pacquiao. Of course, Pacquiao was a lot younger back then so his conditioning was less important than it is now. Unfortunately, Pacquiao can no longer go out and overpower the guys that Bob Arum matches him up against from his Top Rank stable, and that’s why conditioning is much more important for him.

Pacquiao was knocking guys out left and right when Fortune was working with him. Pacquiao is now gone through a dry spell in his career where he hasn’t knocked out an opponent in 5 years since his controversial stoppage win over Miguel Cotto in 2009. A lot of boxing fans feel that the Pacquiao-Cotto fight shouldn’t have been halted because Cotto was still fighting back in the 12th round when the referee halted it. If you ignore that fight, then Pacquiao doesn’t have a knockout since his 2nd round TKO win over Ricky Hatton in May of 2009.

Pacquiao can probably beat Bradley no matter who is putting him through his paces. This is a fight that Pacquiao has all the advantages in, and the only way he blows it is by fighting passively like he did in their previous bout in 2012. But for the tougher opponents, Pacquiao is going to need Fortune to help build up his strength and conditioning.

If all Pacquiao is going to be fighting from this point forward are rematches with Bradley and fights against the likes of Mikey Garcia, Brandon Rios, Mike Alvarado and Ruslan Provodnikov, then he should be okay with a special S & C coach. But if he’s going to fight Juan Manuel Marquez again and face some quality guys like Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Keith Thurman, then Pacquiao is going to need a lot of help with getting him back to where he was in 2009.

Is Timothy Bradley Being Set Up to Lose to Manny Pacquiao? By Paul Magno 9 hours ago

COMMENTARY | There's a feeling among some observers that there's absolutely no way Timothy Bradley will walk away with the win and the WBO welterweight belt against Manny Pacquiao when the two meet on April 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. To be even more specific, some feel that there's no way Bradley will be allowed to walk away with the win over Pacquiao in this high profile rematch.
The Associated Press

Yes, an injustice was dished out to Pacquiao the last time these two fighters met back in June of 2012. A controversial split decision in favor of Bradley cost the Filipino icon the WBO belt as well as a fifteen fight, seven year winning streak. Most knowledgeable observers felt that Pacquiao deserved the victory over Bradley by scores ranging anywhere from 116-112 to 118-110.
However, Bradley got the win and he took the brunt of the backlash that was bound to come along with the apparent fleecing of boxing's most beloved fighter. With death threats on one side and a sudden career dead end on the other, Bradley kept plugging away while insisting that he did, indeed, beat Manny.
It wasn't easy, but the tough former junior welterweight kingpin found a way to get back into the good graces of the boxing public. It took a brutal bludgeoning in his victory over Ruslan Provodnikov and a skillful, albeit less-than-scintillating win over Juan Manuel Marquez in 2013 for the fans to forgive Bradley for being the beneficiary of Pacquiao's misfortune.
Now, fans and media are back to giving Bradley all the credit and respect he deserves as one of the most successful fighters in the sport today. This doesn't mean, though, that all is forgotten and that Bradley isn't coming into this upcoming Pacquiao rematch at a distinct disadvantage.
Manny Pacquiao is big business and a business that needs to keep rolling forward after two straight defeats and a dominant, but ultimately disappointing win over Brandon Rios in Macau, China that also proved to be a pay-per-view flop.
In the best interest of Team Pacquiao, promoter Bob Arum, and all things dragged into Manny's buck-making gravitation pull, the eight-division former world champ must look impressive in beating a legitimate world class opponent like Bradley. At the very least, though, he has to win.
A loss for Pacquiao, legitimate or not, would effectively and officially put an end to the Pacquiao era. And although he will remain a world class fighter no matter what happens against Bradley, it will be impossible for him to generate the serious, serious money he used to generate when he was owning the ring and had America loving his impish out-of-ring charm.
So, for this reason, Timothy Bradley must lose on April 12.
It's a safe assumption that what we'll see in the ring for part two won't be all that different than what we saw in part one. Both will essentially be the same fighters and even if some adjustments are made prior to the bout, it's also safe to assume that both will revert back to form in the heat of battle.
But this time, because of the massive scandal that came to be in the aftermath of their first bout, more eyes will be focused on the judging and officiating. The judges, themselves, will be more self-conscious about the scoring. The end result will be that Bradley won't likely be getting the benefit of the doubt for any close rounds in this upcoming bout and will have to go out and either dominate or knock Pacquiao out.
Bradley hasn't stopped anyone since he scored a TKO win over faded former lightweight champ, Joel Casamayor in 2011 and the odds of him hurting Manny are extremely slim.
Don't buy the sales pitch that Bradley will somehow come out and do any better this time than he did the last. The best that can be hoped for is a close, competitive bout featuring a Timothy Bradley who has decided to use his speed and reflexes to box rather than fight.
But, no matter what he does, it'll take a miracle for Bradley to get the win on April 12!!!!!!

Bradley, who is from Palm Springs, took some time out of his training schedule to attend the event and, along with star tennis players Novak Djokovic and Stanislas Wawrinka and actor Kevin Spacey, assisted in auctioning off a pair of ringside tickets to his April 12 rematch with Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Winner of the ticket auction? Ferrell, who bid $24,000 for the two tickets to attend the fight.

Pacquiao in L.A. for next phase of camp

By Dan| ESPN.com

The Pacman has landed.

Manny Pacquiao, on a quest to regain his welterweight title when he meets Timothy Bradley Jr. in a rematch, arrived in the Los Angeles from the Philippines on Saturday night -- via Philippine Airlines Flight 102 -- for the second part of his training camp.

Pacquiao, as the world knows, got ripped off badly in a massively controversial split decision to Bradley (31-0, 12 KOs) in June 2012. The rematch is April 12 (HBO PPV) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, same site as the first debacle.

Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KOs) arrived in Los Angeles with trainer Freddie Roach and the rest of the team after training for the past several weeks in the Philippines. Pacquiao will finish his training camp at Roach’s Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, Calif.

"We had a great camp in the Philippines and Manny, as usual, is way ahead of schedule in his conditioning and very motivated," Roach said upon their arrival. “The real business begins for us on Monday at Wild Card. We have great sparring waiting for Manny. He wants that title back. If Bradley thinks he's going to see the same compassionate Manny he saw the first time they fought he is in for a very big surprise."

Pacquiao tweeted upon his arrival: “I am so happy to be back in LA training w/ Freddie Roach at Wild Card. I have really missed it.”

http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2012/1127/box_g_packimts_576.jpgRandy Holmes ABC/Getty ImagesManny Pacquiao is set to make his traditional pre-fight visit on April 2 to "Jimmy Kimmel Live."
Last year, Manny Pacquiao only fought once, his November wipeout of Brandon Rios. But that fight took place in Macau, China and it meant for the first time since 2009 that Pacquiao did not pay his traditional pre-fight visit to Jimmy Kimmel to appear on his late-night talk show.

But the tradition, a hilarious one, is back as Pacquiao gets ready for his rematch with Timothy Bradley Jr. on April 12 (HBO PPV) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao will appear on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" (ABC, 11:35 p.m. ET) on Wednesday, April 2, along with the other guest that night -- President Bill Clinton.

Talk about political heavyweights. Pacquiao is a current congressman in the Philippines.

The appearance will be Pacquiao's eighth on the program dating to November 2009, when he made his first appearance before facing Miguel Cotto. It was on that episode that Pacquiao sang his version of the sappy 1970s ballad "Sometimes When We Touch." During ensuing appearances, Pacquiao sang duets with Kimmel and Will Ferrell and did a hilarious spoof of HBO's "24/7" with Kimmel sidekick Guillermo.

Clinton, back in the day, once played the saxophone on Arsenio Hall's late-night talk show. No word if there's a Pacquiao-Clinton performance coming.

Pacquiao-Bradley officials assigned
Updated: April 1, 2014, 7:38 PM ET
ByDan | ESPN.com

When Manny Pacquiao lost his welterweight title to Timothy Bradley Jr. by highly controversial decision in June 2012 there was worldwide outrage over the scoring by judges C.J. Ross and Duane Ford, both of whom voted 115-113 for Bradley -- and have since left judging.
On Tuesday, the Nevada State Athletic Commission appointed the officials for the Pacquiao-Bradley rematch, which will take place April 12 (HBO PPV) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, undoubtedly hoping to avoid another controversy.
The commission appointed veteran judges Glenn Trowbridge of Nevada, Michael Pernick of Florida and John Keane from Great Britain to score the fight. Kenny Bayless, regarded by many as the best referee in the world, was appointed as the third man in the ring.
Because of the controversy over the first fight, the commission vowed to have a more open process when it came to selecting officials for the fight.
"What the commission did was give us a whole list of officials that were being considered -- judges and referees -- and then we circulated it to both camps and we said knock out anybody that you feel may not be suitable," said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum, who promotes both fighters. "Then we had a phone call with (commission chairman Francisco Aguilar and commissioner Bill Brady last week) and said, 'Here are the officials that both sides have no objection to,' and out of that they selected three judges and the referee."
Arum said the list he was initially given included eight or nine judges and five referees.
"Neither camp can complain about the officials selected because these are judges approved by both camps and same with the referee," Arum said. "I really commend the commission for taking the steps that they did and with all the transparency in this. It's the fighters who are most affected by this decision and now neither fighter can say anything whatever happens."
The Nevada commission typically appoints at least two Nevada judges to major fights and also often brings in one out-of-state judge. For this fight, Arum said the commission went along with his request to bring in two judges from outside of Nevada.
"We requested that because there are so many good judges around the world why limit yourself to just Nevada," Arum said.
Trowbridge will be judging his sixth Pacquiao fight. The only one of the fights where there was debate about the scoring was for the third fight between Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez in their 2011 welterweight title bout. Pacquiao won by majority decision and Trowbridge had Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KOs) winning 116-112 while another judge had him up 115-113 and the third judge had it 114-114.
Keane has been on the judging panel for one previous Pacquiao fight, his sixth-round knockout loss to Marquez in their fourth meeting in December 2012. He was in agreement with the two other judges that night -- they all had Pacquiao ahead 47-46 at the time of the knockout.
Pernick will be working his third Pacquiao fight. He judged Pacquiao's last fight in November in Macau, China, scoring his one-sided victory against Brandon Rios a shutout. Pernick was also a judge for Pacquiao's second-round knockout of Ricky Hatton in 2009.
None of the judges has ever worked a Bradley fight. Bayless will be working his seventh Pacquiao fight. Bradley (31-0, 12 KOs) is fighting in Nevada for only the fourth time and this will be the first time that Bayless referees one of his bouts.
Officials were also selected for the other fights on the HBO PPV card.
• Vic Drakulich will referee the regional lightweight title bout between Mexico's Raymundo Beltran (28-6-1, 17 KOs) and two-time junior lightweight titlist Roman Martinez of Puerto Rico. It's a particularly significant fight for Beltran, who is the No. 1 contender for the lightweight world title held by Terrence Crawford and could get a title shot with a victory.
The judges assigned to the bout are Burt Clements and Dave Moretti of Nevada and Craig Metcalfe of Canada.
• Tony Weeks was selected to referee the fight between junior welterweight titlist Khabib Allakhverdiev (19-0, 9 KOs) of Russia, who is making his second defense, and challenger Jessie Vargas (23-0, 9 KOs) of Las Vegas. The judges for the fight will be Robert Hoyle and Jerry Roth or Nevada and Glenn Feldman of Connecticut.
• Robert Byrd was appointed to referee the fight between interim junior lightweight titlist Bryan Vasquez (32-1, 17 KOs) of Costa Rica and Jose Felix (26-0-1, 12 KOs) of Mexico. The judges will be Dick Houck and Patricia Morse Jarman of Nevada and Levi Martinez of New Mexico.

Los Angeles (AFP) - Trainer Freddie Roach says avenging losses to Timothy Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez are the top items on Manny Pacquiao's to-do list, but believes the Filipino will one day face Floyd Mayweather.

But Hall of Fame trainer Roach said Pacquiao's legacy depends more on turning the tables on the two opponents who beat him in 2012 than on a belated, late-career tilt at Mayweather.
"In the history books you have to avenge your losses, you have to avenge your losses in life," Roach said Wednesday at his Wild Card gym in Los Angeles, where Pacquiao's media workout drew a throng.
Pacquiao, the former world champion in eight weight divisions, will get his shot at retribution against Bradley in Las Vegas on April 12.
Both fighters are calling it a chance for redemption, after Bradley beat Pacquiao by a controversial split decision in June 2012 -- a bout that many observers thought Pacquiao had dominated.
"We feel we got robbed in the last fight -- now we need to be sure that we get the victory," said Pacquiao, 35, who will be fighting to regain the World Boxing Organization welterweight crown he surrendered to Bradley.

Six months after losing to the American, Pacquiao was knocked out in the sixth round by Mexico's Marquez in the fourth bout between the two.
If Pacquiao beats Bradley and Marquez beats American Mike Alvarado in May, a fifth Pacquiao-Marquez fight could be on the cards.
"I'm not thinking about the next fight," Pacquiao said. "I'm thinking about this fight."
- 'No, nothing' -
However, Pacquiao can never escape speculation about a matchup with unbeaten Mayweather.

In late 2009 and early 2010, Pacquiao and Mayweather were considered the world's top pound-for-pound fighters and record profits were expected from a showdown.
But a disagreement over pre-fight blood testing scuttled talks.
Mayweather vowed never again to do business with Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum, but the subject never goes away.
"I've thought about it so much, I've had dreams about that fight," Roach said.
While he added that it seems to be "getting further away instead of closer" Roach added that he thought it would happen simply because there are so few big-draw opponents for Mayweather and Pacquiao as they seek to extend their careers and cement their legacies.

"The pool's very small for both guys," Roach said. "Somewhere they're going to have to fight each other."
Roach thinks meeting Pacquiao has become more important for Mayweather.
At 45-0 with 26 knockouts, the 37-year-old Mayweather is approaching the 46-0 career mark of retired Welsh star Joe Calzaghe and the iconic 49-0 mark of heavyweight legend Rocky Marciano.
But Roach said that unbeaten record loses some gloss without a Pacquiao fight on it.
"His record looks good, but if he's so good, why didn't he fight Pacquiao?" Roach asked.
In the meantime, Pacquiao is calmly getting on with the business of preparing for Bradley, who has twice defended the title he won from Pacquiao and taken his record to 31-0 with 12 knockouts.

In his only fight of 2013 Pacquiao defeated Brandon Rios to take his record to 55-5 with two draws and 38 knockouts.
Asked if there was anything he saw from Bradley in their first fight that concerned him, Pacquiao thought for a moment, and said: "No, nothing."

Pacquiao talks Bradley-Marquez April, 8, 2014 Apr 8
6:09
PM ET

By Dan | ESPN.com

Manny Pacquiao has faced Juan Manuel Marquez in four memorable battles, going 2-1-1, including a shocking one-punch knockout loss in fight No. 4 in December 2012.

Pacquiao has also faced Timothy Bradley once, losing a massively controversial split decision in June 2012.

After facing Pacquiao, Bradley outboxed Marquez two fights later, in October, to defend the title he claimed against Pacquiao.

Now Pacquiao is set to go back into the ring to face Bradley in a rematch on Saturday night (HBO PPV, 9 ET) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. So is there anything Pacquiao might have picked up about Bradley watching him face Marquez, his greatest rival?

Not exactly.

That’s because Pacquiao said he did not watch the fight (if you believe him). Pacquiao did, however, say that Bradley’s decision win did not surprise him.

In the fight after facing Pacquiao, Bradley slugged it out with Provodnikov in the 2013 fight of the year, a battle in which Bradley was knocked down, badly hurt multiple times and concussed. He said he fought Provodnikov toe to toe by design. Then he returned to a boxing style against Marquez.

So which Bradley will show up against Pacquiao? Pacquiao said he expects Bradley fight him the way he did Marquez, rather than try to slug with him like he did against Provodnikov. Pacquiao has far better power than Bradley.

"I do not think Bradley will fight toe-to-toe with me, either, so I will have to hunt him down,” Pacquiao said. “I am prepared for that. I am not going for a knockout but if the opportunity presents itself, I am going to go for it this time. Bradley's talk that I am no longer hungry has inspired me throughout this training camp. As [trainer] Freddie Roach keeps saying every day in training, ‘No mercy.’”

Roach has watched Bradley’s performance against Marquez and perhaps gleaned something from it, especially since he is also so familiar with Marquez’s style.

“For his fights he does what he is supposed to do,” Roach said of Bradley. “He boxed well against Marquez and he beat a good fighter. What he will bring to the table against Manny is what he brought against Marquez. He likes to exchange a little bit also, so when we get into an exchange we will have to take advantage of that moment.”

Pacquiao vs. Bradley – Why it’s must win for both fightershttp://www.boxingnews24.com/wp-content/themes/b24/images/PostDateIcon.png April 8th, 2014 | http://i2.wp.com/www.boxingnews24.com/wp-content/uploads/bradley151.jpg?resize=284%2C350By Simon Allen: At the MGM Grand, Garden Arena, Las Vegas, Timothy Bradley takes on Manny Pacquiao for the second time in what promises to be one of the biggest fights of 2014. After the controversy of the last fight and the paths both fighters have progressed down since, both fighters have much to win and a lot to lose.
Manny Pacquiao, 55/ 5/ 2 (38) comes to the fight fresh over a dominant win of an outclassed Brandon Rios and looking to avenge defeat to Bradley in their previous fight. Much of the appeal of the fight centres on the fact that nearly everyone who watched the first fight had Pacquiao winning comfortably. Indeed a WBO championship committee upon review had all five of the judges they used scoring the fight for Pacquiao however the result was not overturned. Manny indeed has much to be aggrieved by.
Throw in the jibes from Bradley and his camp about Pacquiao’s apparent loss of desire and loss of killer instinct and there seems good reason for Manny to prove a point. The word is the normally passive and respectful Manny is angry and out for revenge.

His trainer Freddie Roach has said Manny is up and ready for the fight, a fight they consider the most important since Pacquiao dismantled Oscar de la Hoya. Manny has trained well is ready for anything Bradley can bring and will fight from the opening bell to the end.
For Pacquiao a win will do much to reassure his fans and the boxing public he is still a force to be reckoned with and the knockout loss to Marquez has not affected him. It will also avenge a loss he will feel he didn’t deserve. To maintain his standing in boxing circles Manny needs to win and do so convincingly.
To lose would be a disaster; his critics will be out in force and make much of his fall from grace. The aura of invincibility will be damaged and opponents in the future will lose fear they once had. Retirement will probably be the next career move.
Timothy Bradley, 31/ 0/ 0 (12), has a massive point to prove. Bradley perhaps with less conviction than he lets on believes he won the first fight and hasn’t received the credit deserved. A win over Ruslan Provodnikov in a twelve round war did much to improve his appeal but also highlighted his flaws. A split decision victory over Pacquiao conqueror Juan Manuel Marquez has also been called into question by fans and critics, with some feeling Marquez won that fight too. Bradley, needless to say hasn’t exactly shone since the first fight either.
If Bradley wins and does so impressively then he will have gone a long way to bringing fans on board, as a great American fighter especially considering his personality is miles above that of Mayweather and Broner and a much better role model. It will also peak the attention of boxing aficionados and maybe achieve some of that credit Bradley feels he deserves.
If Bradley loses most fans will have little sympathy due to the controversial nature of the last fight. Indeed in many respect Bradley is defending his pride as a fighter and come Saturday night I feel he will fear losing that more than the belt, as Bradley craves real recognition more than anything else.
For my part I expect a fast frenetic pace to start with, Pacquiao taking the fight to Bradley. Bradley will box and move but will ultimately be outworked. I predict a close fight which I will be hard to score again. Pacquiao to win on points though and even push for a late stoppage.

Manny Pacquiao guaranteed $20M

Updated: April 9, 2014, 9:33 PM ET
By Dan | ESPN.com

LAS VEGAS -- Manny Pacquiao is taking a pay cut from the first fight he had with Timothy Bradley Jr. two years ago and Bradley is getting a handsome raise.
But Pacquiao, the star of the show, will still be making way more than his rival.
Their official purses for their rematch on Saturday night (HBO PPV) at the MGM Grand are $6 million apiece, according the contracts filed with the Nevada State Athletic Commission. However, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told ESPN.com on Wednesday that Pacquiao is guaranteed a minimum of $20 million, much of which will be paid out in the weeks after he collects the $6 million check on fight night.
Both boxers, according to Arum, also will earn upside depending on how well the pay-per-view performs, and Arum said he believes it will exceed 1 million buys. He said he is basing that figure on anecdotal information he has received from HBO PPV executives. The first Pacquiao-Bradley fight in June 2012, which Bradley won by extremely controversial decision to claim a welterweight world title, generated 890,000 pay-per-view buys and more than $50 million in revenue.
Pacquiao's guarantee for the first fight with Bradley was $26 million. Bradley, who will earn a career-high purse on Saturday, made $5 million for the fight two years ago.
The other purses for the bouts that will be televised on the pay-per-view broadcast:
• Lightweight Raymundo Beltran will earn $85,000 and last-minute replacement opponent Arash Usmanee will receive $80,000 in the co-feature.
• Junior welterweight titlist Khabib Allakhverdiev will make $250,000 and challenger Jessie Vargas is getting $90,000.
• Interim junior lightweight titleholder Bryan Vasquez will get $55,000 and challenger Jose Felix Jr. will make $40,000.

I personally think Pac-Man will destroy him this time around.
Bradley talking alot of thrash and Manny knows Bradley cannot hurt him.
Timothy will get KO this time around in my opinion.

Exactomundo.... Never been face down in the canvas nor defeated by anyone. Pac must know that he's facing a better fighter than the one he fought the last time. We'll find out soon enough. Bets are open,40.000 buxs ready to be had. Brad is the underdog, he need to win this one to be in the list of the Elite boxers in the world.

My observation for all its worth is....
Bradley came in too bulked up and muscle bound... hence ran outta gas by the 7th.
Horrible fight plan.. you can not go toe to toe and throw haymakers with Manny.
Manny has a super defense. only thing you can do is counter him... ala Marquez.
Bradley wanted to show he has huevos... but simply put, he has no ko power and
Manny is simply the better fighter.
I do have to say though, a younger Manny would have knocked Bradley out... Manny showed
some age.. he only hurt Timothy one time... and he got hurt one time.
Not the same Manny we knew in the past. Bradley almost looked over trained.
Lets hope Manny fights a NEW opponent next time... not the same old merry go round guys..
AND please! no more Marquez!!!!

Ha ha ha! get this boys.... Arum was quoted as saying if Floyd and Manny don't fight,
Manny will likely fight the winner of the Marquez vs Alvarado bout!! HUH??????
Here we go again!!!
I get the feeling you gents were a little more impressed by Manny than I was.
He fought well,, but he had an opponent that came straight at him... why Bradley
did not fight Manny the way he beat Marquez is beyond me.. Bradley missed most
of the right hands he threw.. haymakers. You will never hit Manny with those.
I am a Manny fan but he still looks too small for Floyd to me. Bradley looked way bigger.
So did Marquez.

I have stated the same thing all along.. Manny has always been the "small man".... So then why does PBf keep ducking him?????..Because PBf has always chosen his opponents....Either Old men or young starters he knows he can beat.....I have also said my theory is he wanted to wait for Manny to get "old" but I think Mayweather may even be older than him... lol..

Dreams!Dreams!Dreams, it wasn't an impressive fight, Marcos would have beaten both the way he beat Bronner. Now ,you will see what PBF will do to him next. Pac will have to stand in line for his turn. Nobody was impressed with this lousy PPV, only the Filipino community which deserved a relieve after going through the biggest Typhoon ever. Congrats to them.

I was here to bet, Bradley could've won that fight if he boxed, as rudee said he came over trained and trying to land a right had. Roach said he wasn't happy with Manny's performance. No power in his punches at all, lots of speed but never seen the Road Runner beat anyone, not even the Coyote. My hero as you state, contrary Pac, makes his own decisions. I'm also hoping to see that beating in the near future. Pac will get countered every time he uses that left hand with a strong right hand to the face as your Paisano did many times. Congrats to you and all Pacquio's fans.

No doubt Manny won big... but Bradley never gave himself a chance to win... he started throwing
haymakers from the first round... came in looking like Ernie Shavers... huge muscles..
Those of us that know boxing know that muscle is very heavy and wears you down.
I figured he would run outta gas.. he did.
Congrats to Manny though... he won big time... super job blocking the round house rights.
