VANCOUVER -- Jeff Carter's trip to the Olympics was short-lived.
The Philadelphia Flyers forward was informed by Team Canada on Monday that he would not be needed, as Anaheim Ducks star Ryan Getzlaf received medical clearance to play in the Winter Olympics following an impressive four-point night Sunday in Edmonton.
Team Canada announced the news ahead of Monday's 3 p.m. ET deadline to submit final rosters to Olympic organizers.
Getzlaf had been hobbled by an ankle injury and his roster spot appeared to be in danger. But he responded in grand style Sunday in Anaheim's last NHL game before the Olympic break, with two goals and two assists in the Ducks' 7-3 win.
Team Canada executive director Steve Yzerman and the rest of the team was slated to meet media Monday night, on the eve of their Olympic opener against Norway.
