CM Punk made the Internet explode last week after he took his ball and went home. If Bellator has their way, they'll be the ones making it explode this week.

Bloody Elbow has the details (with a h/t to fellow SBNation site, Cageside Seats) surrounding Punk, the Green Power Ranger and Bellator MMA.

Bellator has already expressed at least preliminary interest in him. He would be free and clear of any WWE contractual obligations in July....

I get the impression a part of him would like to do it the same way Batista did it as a bucket list thing. With Batista, it seemed on the surface to be a real bad risk, but in the end, he did it and wasn't hurt at all. With Punk, on the surface, it would seem the same thing. A theoretical big risk....

Although most MMA fans would scoff at the idea of another pro wrestler fighting in MMA, Rener Gracie told Fox Sports that Punk has unlimited potential.

Jason Frank took to Instagram to post a call-out of sorts, saying he'd be interested in throwing down with the self-proclaimed "best in the world."

So now that CM punk is out of his contracts and wants to do MMA. Why not me? He already said he fight me. I got this on video from a fan. Come on CM punk we could make this a awesome fight. Plus his weight is way down. ... I'll make any weight to make this happen!!

Frank, better known as the original Green/White Power Ranger, sports a 1-0 professional record and a 4-0 amateur record in MMA. But he also hasn't fought since 2010.

Punk has trained with the Gracies throughout his career, but he's also well beyond the age most people start their MMA careers and has years of wear and tear on his body. As any professional wrestler will tell you, the sport isn't the kindest on the body no matter how fake some people believe it to be.

Frank, meanwhile, has a background in traditional martial arts, and is a star of many of our childhoods as the Green/White Power Ranger.

If Bellator puts this fight together it could be the biggest matchup the promotion could muster outside of the Eddie Alvarez-Michael Chandler trilogy. That's a poor indication of where Bellator stands right now, but it also happens to be true.

There's no doubt Punk would enjoy the crossover appeal from WWE fans that Brock Lesnar did (although not as big in terms of fanbase) and would garner the attention of MMA fans looking to point a finger and laugh if he were to be defeated.

The fight probably won't come together due to contract issues, commissions and other out-of-the-cage problems, but it still shows that Punk could draw interest from a number of promotions if Bellator is in fact interested.
