I have someone coming in to install T5 HD & T4 along with a 30 inch dish. He is charging 565.00 for all of it. I am in Mississauga, ON. This guy will also take 30.00 per month. Does anyone think that this is a good deal?

that's over 300 bucks a year WOW. I think you should just have him install the dish and the boxes and get the codes elsewhere.

you are getting screwed, also why would you get 1 SD and 1 HD receiver.
Also 30 a month better off getting a sub. I'd cancel this guy fast

1SD as 1 of the TVs is just HD compatible and that will be for my parents. 1 HD for my LED TV.
$30.00 a month for 2 receivers.
I am not technical at all so don't know how this thing works.
I don't know how to get the codes and if i do end up getting them, I am not sure where to plug them..lol..You guys seem to have a lot of experience; however everyone tells to read the notes on this site, but there is so much content here that i don't even know where to start looking..

First off, why wouldn't you get 2 HD receivers and you can get 2 codes for less with internationals as well.

I thought that getting SD will be cheaper, as i don't need HD for 1 TV..as i said i am totally new to this..i don't know how or where to get codes …this guy is coming in tomorrow at 10 am to install...

watch out, some of those installers will change the passwords on the receiver to keep you from changing server info, the Server Setup Password on the Dreamlinks can't even be reset by factory default or force loading a factory file.
I saw one of these receivers a few weeks ago that was trying to connect to an IP in Toronto (I think the code was dead though)
*to get around an unknown server setup password, use Make2Dream to create a file with the server info and load it via USB
vikibhar

does that mean that i should ask him not to add a password and that i will add it myself?

definitely do that! makes things a whole lot easier, esp if you lose contact with whoever set the password

I dont know of any receivers that can be reset by a factory default Loading a factory file with loader program and cable will also reset it

Does T5 have wifi? I have modem where the first receiver will go, however for the second TV, there is no internet line as I am using wi fi. The guy was saying that he will have to run the cable for...

Lol, you can use a powerline to do this. This guy just keeps charging you and at one point when its all said and done, your going to end up paying $,1000.00 lol.

he is charging me 565.00 for total installation with 2 receivers, dish and cabling for internet. If I had any brains to do these type of things, I would have done it myself..lol..

Can someone please tell me if I need to dish for North America and Asian channels?

You better make SURE he does not set any passwords otherwise you are at the mercy of this guy and his server if for some reason he decides to stop selling or gets caught and you are incapable of resetting the receivers you are out your 600.00 You would be better off taking some time and doing some reading here it is not hard to do as for the dish installation there are a lot of installers in the Mississauga area that will do just the dish install and run your cables try buying you receivers from Worlld wide Satellites and ask them about an installer in the area

This guy, Farrukh, is on Worldwide satellites website as one of the installers. I am getting installation done by him.
Can this guy still set up my system, but not set the password?

Yes there is no reason he needs to set up any passwords

Look bro, why don't you just have him install the whole system without the codes. Your asking for trouble if you get the codes from him and what if it goes down, what support are you going to have? will he be around to answer you? My opinion, stay away from the PS from him.

You just need to make sure that you get signal on all the sats that you want including 118. Make sure you tell him what sats you want and he will install all the sats and he can check them with the receiver. Im sure he has a signal meter so he will know what signal strength he would get on all the sats. He can also install the wiring for the internet without the code. You can come here for help on the rest.

Let's break down the cost analysis to see how much is he actually charging you for the package, prices are hypothetical of course but you have 199 for T5 give or take and 130 give or take your looking at 90 for the dish with lnbs give or take and with shipping say 40 were around 420 right now, he is going to point and aim and run short throw cable and purchase and run your ethernet cable nice and neat I would hope.. So he is profiting about 146 dollars depending on how long the install stakes in your area installs run from 80 to 100 dollars so realistically he's netting anywhere from 66 dollars to 46 dollars for the job.. Imo that's not really that bad.. That what most would price to do all the grunt work for you.. The server end I wouldn't know I don't dabble in this iks stuff but I would say that's where there going to make the money off you.. Just my opinion sir hope it helps

100 bucks to install the dish? lol I wish. I paid 200 bucks and that was the cheapest anywhere. No one is going to do all that for 100 bucks, not a chance.

Lol can tell I am getting old, wow so anyways your looking if that's the case of a breakeven point I would have to say depending on the trust level you have with this individual will determine whether or not you shop around for "codes"

so this guy is here now and it seems that all he needs to do is to install the dish..as the cabling was already there by the previous owner (he already had dish installed, but took it with him when he sold the house to us).
He told me tht he will run a power adapter for internet for second floor. I have not had a chance to talk to him about the codes and re think about pricing, now that most of the cabling is already in place..any thoughts..

Exactly what I am saying. Installation is ok with the boxes but I would do the code with him as there are cheaper ones if he looks around.

Make things a lot easier just let him installed everything and get a code from him for a month after that come to buy a code from here and cancel with him, that way you can keep track of what's going on.

Ok, so here is the installation summary:
1. 1 Dish
2. Sats: 110, 118, 119, 129
3. 2 T5 HD receivers with HD boards
4. 2 Powerline adapters to get internet on 2nd floor
5. Codes for 6 months
Total cost = $800.00 with installation
I trust the guy as he seems to be honest & genuine, which is why I went with him for 6 months for his PS.
Questions:
1. Audio: I don't see 5.1 output for any channels, not even HD. Is that true?
2. There are quite a few channels that don't show up like from 500 to 550, which are all Movie channels. How do I get them?
3. I saw a few adult channels, from 480 to 500, but only a handful of them show up. How do I get all?
4. It seems sat 129 has the lowest amount of channels running, is that true?
5. Does it depend who I get the codes from? Would they have different channel line ups?
6. Is there anything else i can do with this box to make it a full time hobby?

1. I'm not sure about the audio since I don't have a 5.1 system.
2. You won't get all of the pay-per-view channels. most iks only do channels 526-539, a couple will have a few HDPPV (502-522) on the weekends.
3. There were two ECMs (the thing that happens when all channels are knocked out) recently. not all the porn channels are back up yet. normally you'll get 487-489 and 491-496 and 498.
4. Yes, but that's because it's where all the HD channels are. there are less HD channels than SD channels.
5. For the most part, it doesn't matter. However, some iks may have some additional channels, such as HDPPV, Hustler HD or international channels, that others don't have.
6. I don't have an answer to that.

Check in the forums under iks or p$ and check out the resellers and remember to pm them because they ill not tell u much in open forum.Remember google can be ur friend but forums like this have alot friends with precise info on the hobby. This guy that selling the code to u for 30.00 a month cannot guarantee ecm's (when ur sevice goes down)In this hobby nobody can, but u can get really good deals for codes if u read a little.

he bought a code from a local guy that installed his system, you should ask him what is the name of his iks service, that way you can come here and check under iks what's going on when your tv go down which it will quack often, in most iks, you also should take time and read under dreamlink t5 to get a better understanding what to do when your receiver acting up. The reason I say this, if you don't understand how iks work you are depend on him every time your tv go down and you going to have to call him every time, most of the local installer don't like to take a phone call when tv go down.
