At friends yesterday checking out his new receiver. A lot of SD channels have a black bar at top and bottom of picture. Some channels fill the screen. HD show full screen.
Is this normal (ie: 105 shows black bars, 119 shows full screen) &/or is there a fix for this?
His older unit (viewsat 9000) did not have this issue.
In system info........ Loader Version...... L 1.00.00
Hardware................Ht_V20 1.00.00
Application..............Ver 1.02.00
Build Date...............Oct 28 2013
Thx. for any input.

Dreamlink HD has exactly the same problem. When you try to change A/V in menu nothing changed.

Don't believe that has anything to do with software or the box for that matter.

since most channels are only broadcast in HD, Dish (or any other provider) has to downscale the 720p or 1080i feed to 480i before sending it out to customers.

Most TVs have 3 or 4 pic. size settings that will usually get rid of most or all of any black bars

Thx for responses so far, BUT, it's only on a few of the SD channels, not all.
As said, didn't happen with the other receiver. Changing settings in A/V section of T5 didn't change this. Shouldn't have to keep chnging t.v. setting ratio back and forth for full screen just for a few channels.
Any other ideas?
Thx.

You right. This is Dreamlink's problem. I have also Sonicview and when you're setting default screen to 4:3 it works perfectly and it make HD channels automatically full screen. So Dreamlink A/V settings is crap
