I am looking to buy a power inserter and see the direcTV power inserters are much less expensive than the DPP44 power inserter. Can I use a direct TV power inserter on my dish 1000.2 dish with a Jynxbox or other STBs

No, they are different, DP equipment needs to use DP equipment, using something else may cause irreparable damage.

you can also use an old DPP OEM receiver like a 301, 311, 501, 508 or 510 in it's place as long as you connect it to port 1 on the switch, you can pick up a 301 at you local flea for about $5.

All 3 ports on 1000.2 used with STBs but thanks for the suggestion - I have done that in the past

If you need more ports for more receivers you can use a DPP44 switch, (4 receiver outputs) this can be cascaded with two additional DPP44 switches and run 12 receivers off the 3 (or 4) LNB's to 3 DPP44 switches.
If using FTA receivers you will only get 9 ports.

a power inserter is a power inserter as long as the polarity is correct and they are the same and the voltage is close enough and they are
there are two different dtv power inserters one is a 21v 1.5 amp the other is a 28v 1.5 amp
the latter is the one you want to use although I have used the 21v one too without issue
the only thing is with a real dpp44 power inserter you normally can use one wire to power the lnbf and feed the reciever where as when using the dtv power inserter you will need to run two lines for the swim inserter will not pass the diseqc commands
