View Full Version : STILL WAITING!!! Seriously BEV EPG! I have two of these units, what going on....

I know, I know, I should have known better buying these units with no EPG for BEV but I figured it would be resolved quickly. There's units out there for less than $50 that have a bev guide!

Anyone know if theres a fix out soon or if ever.... I'm thinking of unloading these, I've been waiting 3 plus months. Is it possible there's a hardware issue holding back a fix... Not sure, anyway I own 2 pro's.

Post your opinions here or info. Thanks.

Thanks for the alternatives. Still a pain though, this box would be killer if the epg worked.

When the box hit the market they did say there was no e p g for bev so everyone knew, well anyone that did a little research before they purchased one.

Ahhhhh, Hi whoknows...wish you could stop saying this. It's silly to think just because they said no bev epg that we would believe that it would not be added next week, next month, etc. I'm pretty sure 99% of the buyers would take it as "It'll be in the next file"kinda thing. It's just part of an fta box and it's not as if this is 2005. It would be like apple putting out a new phone and saying it should be out on the market may 15th. but there is no sound. I'm quite sure most would think it would be fixed by that time or that day, or shortly after. Don't want to get into a boxing match here with ya but think about what your saying. I will say this though...If they did truly mean no bev epg, they should have added the word Ever

I really never could understand what the big deal was about EPG other than those trying to set one up as a PVR and I never seen any of them to reliable that way. I remember back in the good old days of pansats, fortecs and viewsats that there was no EPG. A person had to channel surf or look it up some other way. There was also manual entry of keys (no autoroll) and when it went down you waited rather than land on a forum and start complaining. Things have changed a lot over the years :)

Nostradamus, nice to hear from you. Yup it was the good old days is right. They would start to scream the minute the keys changed and also the epg was just about non existent. If i remember correctly there was even a local phone number you could call and get the keys...Lol. I remember when a pc used with a program mytheatre, and a pci card and was very popular but too much work for some now...One guy I new was getting the HD channels on his pc and that was back in '04 and know one would believe him, not even the card guy's. With the epg, there was a file you could drop in with mytheatre and bingo, there it was. Also, a usb receiver that plugged into the pc and a remote. If linux was used and vdr, or other, one had to program the remote to work. It was an interesting time and a lot had great fun with this.
Back to pinwheel, I'm not complaining as its a great receiver but with some users I think having b*v epg would be nice. At the same time making it one of the best toys around and the Pinwheel Teem is doing a great job! I would assume the epg will come sometime down the pipe but most just thought it would of been sooner rather than later which I can't quite figure out myself.

Ahhh. Good post. Got a chuckle.
As you know these boxes come from across the pond with a cost of between 17 to 34 bucks and if they sell enough they can then afford to pay the programmers. Can't see this box being a real hit as most of the potential buyers are busy trying to fix the no signal on the other box they have invested in:tehe:

Nostradamus

that really is a very good point. OVERSEAS! The boxes are made there and it would seem logical that a 3rd party support team would be in the same general area. In reality, they could be anywhere in the world but to develop software for things like reading EPG out of the stream they would need access to the stream or at least a copy of the streamed data. Not easy trying to program something that way.

It seems providers keep changing up the EPG stream a certain amount as well because they know people want one, I have seen boxes promoting 9 day EEPG and about the best you will ever get is a few days and over time that dissolves to a few hours. Now if it was a memory issue with the box a simple reboot would fix it but that desn't work so it is something the providers are doing.
I learned a long time ago with these things that never believe what you see on the side of a box when it comes to specs or features. It might be correct for true FTA but as soon as people start tossing 3rd party stuff on a box that is all out the window and why it voids the warranty at the same time. Sure even if the boxes are designed for 3rd party software it could be altogether different type of streams in CHina and Korea where things are built and tested

Another reason that coders don't worry about Bev. epg is that the percentage of customers in the Bev footprint is very small compared to Dish customers. Be thankful at least that Bev works on your Pinwheel as there are other receivers that have problems getting Bell to work at all. Freesat, ILink

A touch off topic but, I bought a Nano HD a while back and it's features are quite lacking, though the picture is fantastic in SD and stunning with HD, if it had what ones used to, this too would be a killer box. When the last file was released the printed word was more to follow in a WEEK, well it's been more than two MONTHS now and nothing has changed. Funny thing is, I bought this box for someone else and all they care about is if, the receiver turns on and displays the channel with video and sound, primarily tennis and the fights. :) For some that is enough but, I like to test the features and find it a pain when your used to having them with older receivers and then purchase a new one with the expectation of continued support. I guess all one can do is wait and see and if it comes it comes. As mentioned earlier if the sales numbers aren't there, then the support will lag or become non existent.

Cheers :)

Yes, I agree that everyone shouldl be happy with what they have. The overseas thing mentioned is most likely the biggest issue here but I cannot help thinking how great it would be for the pinwheel team to give access into this linux box. Just imagine...ftp into your pinwheel with limited access and make changes as necessary. whoooooo...sounds good.

I'm a little sad that nothing has changed regarding the epg, but, I can understand the footprint issue not being able to keep things updated. The receiver is just not for everyone is all. Mine is parked as I use the DL T5 which has a great epg and runs a motor pretty good. But all in all I do miss using my pinwheel and lets hope we don't see the epg disappear on charlies side or we'll really see the complaining...Lol.

:okay:cheers to the Pinwheel team and what the future will bring

man can you imagine open source code on a box what kind of mess that would be? for some people it would be fun, for most it would be a disaster. no coding experience would mean a lot of bricks in a short time LOL

Do not worry about mess.Just look the dreambox used widely all over the world.and how far open source box can go if end users can take care of software. Some will learn sooner or later how to use it. But some tv watchers never learn anything no matter of what

I can see no reason in the world why they don't buy the info needed even the newest kid on the block has a bev epg though the channels are not in sid order yet still it is there

granpaw

Even if they didn't want to open up the box they could leave a spot in the settings showing the code needed for the epg where it could be edited. This would solve all problems because it would be up to the individual if they want the guide to work.

Hope the pinwheel team is listening:thumbsup:

If i tell you nothing happen in the whole universe without a reason. It will make you happy?
Or you thing they not release a bev epg just to piss off end users?
There could be so many reasons for it. Lack of resources...hardware limitations....shortage of skill programer and so on...
I do not need to compil anything.I am happy with the box as is and everything they add i count as a bonus.
In reality the support team do not care about your expectations or dreams at the time when you purchase your pinwheel

I'm guessing because of the non-working bev epg...
