upscaling SD local cable box for hd picture

Is it possible in anyway to have cable providers sd box, and upscale with some converter to receive hd channels? These HD boxes in Toronto for our local joke cable companies are so expensive and I refuse to pay or rent a box.

No there isn't anyway to mod the sd box but if you have an HDTv you can buy an HD antenna and receiver OTA HD Channels in the TO area and there free there should be lots you can probably pick up channels from Buffalo as well with a good HD antenna
