I upgraded to 251 via usb. I do not have loader, null, or straight cable so I was unable to load the factory file. I just upgraded form 239 to 251. Now I cannot connect to a network with neither local nor wifi. Nor can i scan any channels. I tried downgrading to 243. It appears to be succesful. But then I went to system info and it says the box is still on 251. What can I do to get my box back up and working. It's not a clone by the way.

Did you do a factory reset after the downgrade?

sounds like you downgrading isnt successful, try buying the RS-232 cable(It is like $5) and using the loader to downgrade, otherwise it might not work.

P.S. This would be the safest way to downgrade

Yes i did factory reset before and after. i wonder if i have a clone. most of the clone telltale signs are not present. but the remote was not packed in a ziplock bag, and the a/v cables are not slotted.

but my computer doesn't have a serial port. are you referring to a serial to usb adapter? I"ve never been able to actually get one of those to work.

Hi Harry, If your computer does not have a serial port you can successfully use a USB to Serial interface. Remember to install the drivers. Check to find out what com port it is configured to .... probably com 1,2,or3. This is found in the device manager of your pc. If you are using a MAC you should set up a virtual machine running XP. You can also connect this cable directly to the jynxbox. Then load the factory file all chunks mode. It really will work! Good luck.

Can you recommend me a good serial to usb on ebay? I purchased that green translucent one. It's a task and a half just to install the drivers - not very user friendly. and then afterwards it still does not work properly.

Honestly i bought just whatever cable i saw first, but i like you said i had problems installing the driver, because i use windows 8, but i had to use another computer that used windows XP and it worked with no problems, so i would recommend that if you use windows XP no to worry about the cable you buy.

Thanks Alex! If you are using Windows 7,8 you can also load windows XP on a thumb drive and boot to that temporarily. Many testers add an XP partition to their hard drive. Google is your friend to find those procedures. Good luck!

Windows 7 works perfect with the rs232 to usb converter, you need to find the driver for the converter, after you load the driver,
then plug in the usb adapter and it will auto ID the com port.

I guess I can try doing the boot to xp on a thumb drive. but i'm curious about iq180 saying that windows 7 works perfect with rs33 to usb. i have windows 7. but there are several different makers of rs232 to usb converter. are you saying that they ALL work? I installed the drivers supplied with the unit. it just does not work. it installs succesfully but it has not detected my jinxbox, nor my viewsat that i wanted to mess around with. you say i need to find the driver. is their a universal driver that you can direct me to that works?

Good morning Harry,
Windows 7 should work just fine. Go to your control panel from the windows start button. Locate the systems menu and then Hardware. Select device manager and then find your com ports. You should see your USB to Serial device. Click on it and set the setting exactly as the loader program has..... baud rate etc. You can change the loader program to match your devices com port.... mine is set to com port 3. It should work now. One more thing, your Viewsat will use a crossover or null cable. Your jynxbox uses a straight through cable. If there are any doubts just hook the USB to serial adapter directly to your box without a cable. You may have to remove the bolts on either side of the comport on your box in order for it to connect. I hope this helps ya :)

What ever brand converter you have google that brand driver, after you load the driver, restart your computer, when you are on your main windows screen plug in the usb adapter without the rs232 cable, it should say loading device driver, keep watching it,
it should say loaded and id the port in the small window.

One more thing, you need to turn off the firewall on your computer.

Thanks guys. I think i know the problem. I believe i need to change the com port #. (as diode kind of mentioned) I just read somewhere that many legacy programs prefer to look for com ports between 1 and 4. My adapter appears as 10. let me try to change that and I'll get back to u.

i had same problem. What i did is download 243 on 251 and then you can download factory and then which ever file you want download it again. This worked for me. I will recommend 243 as a good file as so far 251 i am not able to get it worked.
