My SV 8K is ready to come on line. Ihub, module (red), server and receiver tested and working. The only problem that remains is the usual noisy fan issue with this receiver. Everyone at home complains about it. We have been running a Dream link T5 for the last few months so you can see where the fan noise will come into play.
I would like to replace the fan but don't have instructions on how to do it. Total newb when it comes to electrical things but not afraid to follow clear instructions.
Do you guys have or know what is needed to do this? What kind a fan, where to purchase, pictures with instructions?
Any and all help is appreciated.
Thank you!

I would use a laptop cooler on top of the unit.It works 4 times better than the p.o.s. fan that came with the 8000.
Isn't that noisy too? Never used one before. On top of the receiver with cover off?
Thanks.

You can get some very quiet fans to replace whats in there now, the size is important, but the other thing to consider is it's noise, the noise of the fan is rated in dBA, the lower this number the quieter the fan will be.
However some fans can go even quieter then there published dBA rating, if the fan can be externally controlled (some can, some can't) you can use a fan speed adjustment to slow it down, but don't run a 12 volt fan on the 5 volt buss, it may over time damage the fan or put an unnecessarily higher then normal DC current drain on the +5 volt power supply.
And one other thing to look at is it's CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) rating, one with a high CFM rating could be a lot noisier then the stock fan, but there are some very quiet fan's that can push a lot of air.
Here is a link to some quiet fans,

I just tapped into the white ribbon cable, you can see where it is labeled 12v and grnd. I used a 120mm on the roof of the lid as well as anew 40 mm in the back, works great and is soo quiet.
I couldn;t be botherd paying some dude 14.95 on flea bay for a small 5 volt fan. I had some old pc fans and new ones lying around and used the hard drive power cables so i could disconnect it when i have to pull the lid off. ill post a pic if ya want.
