Mayweather To Fight September 13thBarely two weeks since Floyd Mayweather Jr. outpointed Marcos Maidana to unify welterweight world titles, the pound-for-pound king has set his next fight date.

Mayweather will fight an opponent to be determined on Sept. 13, Mayweather Promotions chief executive Leonard Ellerbe told ESPN.com on Monday night.
"Floyd will go on Sept. 13 and we looking at who he's going to fight and where he is going to fight," Ellerbe said. "Obviously, Las Vegas is his home and the MGM Grand is always the leading candidate but we will take a look at our other options."

The Showtime pay-per-view fight will be the fourth of a six-bout deal worth around $200 million that Mayweather (46-0, 26 KOs) signed with Showtime/CBS in early 2013.
Although Mayweather defeated Maidana by majority decision in one of the toughest fights of his career on May 3 at the MGM Grand - where he has fought nine times in a row -- he gave strong consideration to accepting an offer to fight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Ellerbe said that Mayweather would again consider fighting in New York for the first time in his career this fall.
"[Barclays Center chief executive] Brett [Yormark] and those guys at the Barclays Center made a tremendous offer for the Maidana fight and I'm sure they'll be looking to be in the Floyd Mayweather business again come September, but the MGM is Floyd's home and they are always the leading candidate," Ellerbe said.
Ellerbe said they have not yet determined Mayweather's Sept. 13 opponent.
"We're looking at opponents now," he said. "In the next two weeks we'll have that part figured out."
There was a lot of postfight discussion about a Mayweather-Maidana rematch because of how competitive and entertaining the fight was. Mayweather said immediately afterward that he would consider fighting the Argentine brawler again and Maidana, of course, said he would like another crack at him.
"He's definitely in the mix," Ellerbe said. "He's a very dirty fighter. He used a lot of dirty tactics, but Floyd handled him easily and he gave the fans a great fight. But there's a long list of opponents. Everybody wants to be in the Floyd Mayweather sweepstakes. Several guys have made it clear they want to be next."
One of them is former unified junior welterweight titlist Amir Khan of England, who looked sharp in a lopsided decision win against former welterweight titlist Luis Collazo on the Mayweather-Maidana undercard.
However, Khan essentially removed himself from consideration for the September fight because of religious reasons. Ellerbe said Mayweather has no intention of moving to a more accommodating date for Khan.
"If Amir Khan wants to flight Floyd Mayweather, we're going to fight on Sept. 13," Ellerbe said.
The other candidates likely would come from the deep pool of fighters in the Golden Boy Promotions stable, including junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia, welterweight titlist Shawn Porter and interim titlist Keith Thurman.

The pay-per-view figures for Mayweather-Maidana have not been reported yet, but Ellerbe said they will be soon.
"When we have the information together to put out an accurate number we will do so," he said.
Various industry sources have said the fight did not reach 1 million buys and some say it sold considerably less. Ellerbe said he does not know what the fight generated yet.
"We're still going through our accounting. In this day and age accounting takes a little longer because the pay-per-view universe is different than it was just a few years ago," he said. "In order to get an accurate number it takes a little longer. When we put out the number we want to put out the right number."
The Nevada State Athletic Commission on Monday said that the fight generated a live gate of $15,024,400 - fourth-best in Nevada history -- from 15,718 tickets sold. There were 248 unsold tickets and 50 complimentary tickets.
The commission also said that the drug tests for all of the boxers on the card came back negative.

Cherry picking these guys would be very difficult for any Top Rank boxer. Wonder if they were there, would they be picked to fight Manny Pacquiao and not the little man, so called PBF clone, Adrien Broner????

After as tough of a fight as Floyd Mayweather Jr. has seen in the past several years, all eyes now shift to who “Money May” will fight in his usual September fight date.
As he has in the past several years, Mayweather should fight during Mexican Independence weekend, which would be Saturday, Septemeber 13—Mexican Independence Day falls on Tuesday, September 16—and there are only a handful of opponents that would interest the boxing faithful.
Here are the top four possible opponents for “Money May’s” 47th professional bout, as he goes for the elusive 50-0 record.
*Note: Amir Khan is not mentioned as a possible opponent due to him not being available to fight in September as he will be celebrating Ramadan throughout the month, making his possible bout with Mayweather more likely for May 2015.
Keith Thurman
Young up-and-comer Keith Thurman has created a nice buzz surrounding his name and getting a shot at the pound-for-pound king, Floyd Mayweather could give him his biggest boost, win lose or draw. Being under the Golden Boy Promotions umbrella, a Thurman fight is a real possibility with Mayweather not dealing with anything Top Rank.
Starting out 23-0 with 21 knockouts to boot, Thurman would represent a dangerous threat to Mayweather to the public. Add that to the vast age discrepancy of 12 years and the interest from fans of all levels and a Mayweather-Thurman bout would make for a successful event at all levels.
Shawn Porter
Shawn Porter (24-0-1, 15 KOs) is another young prospect on the rise looking to make a name for himself and what better way than to step into the ring with the best of a generation in Floyd Mayweather.
Porter has also been linked to a bout with Keith Thurman after he takes on, and if he’s successful, against the tough British fighter Kell Brook. Brook is a perfect 32-0 and could get his name thrown in to the Mayweather Sweepstakes if can find a way to stop Porter.
Danny Garcia
Ever since Danny Garcia (28-0, 16 KOs) knocked out Amir Khan in 2012 his name has been linked with a showdown with Floyd Mayweather, despite him never fighting a single bout at the 147-pound welterweight limit.
Add that impressive win to Garcia’s big win over the heavy-handed Lucas Matthysse and Garcia’s name is a hot as anyone’s linked to Mayweather.
It will be interesting to see how Garcia’s power translates to the welterweight limit, making his first bout at the higher weight limit against Mayweather a loss in the making. It would be wise to have Garcia have at least one bout 147 pounds, but if he is summoned to fight Mayweather next there is no way he could turn that down.
Marcos Maidana Rematch
After silencing those who doubted Floyd Mayweather when he chose to fight him over Amir Khan, everyone from casual to die-hard boxing fans are hoping for a rematch of the May 3 bout between Mayweather and Marcos Maidana.
Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs) did give Mayweather all he could handle in their bout, but Mayweather said he was going to trade shots with Maidana instead of utilizing his top notch defensive fight tactics. Sure, Maidana deserves some of the credit too, as he forced the action and was able to sustain a very active fight plan throughout the 12-round war.
Despite the close bout early this month, a second bout between the two wouldn’t be as exciting. As we saw toward the end of the bout, Mayweather is a master adjuster. Maidana only knows one way to win a bout; push the action. Mayweather would be keen to this and would deploy his counter-punching prowess the second time around, giving true boxing fans a master piece of a chess match, and the casual fans a so-called “boring fight” which is why the rematch is unnecessary.
