There’s been a further change to the entry list for next month’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, as the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) announced Tuesday the withdrawal of Lotus, which was set to compete in the new-for-2014 LMP1-L class.
The Kodewa-run effort, which had faced delays with the build of the new Lotus T129 AER, has given way for Millennium Racing to rejoin the field. The UAE-backed effort, run by Britain’s Delta Motorsport, was originally forced out of the race due to delays in their funding.
While having originally having planned for a two-car effort, the Millennium team will now field a single Oreca 03-Nissan for drivers Fabien Giroix, Oliver Turvey and John Martin.
The ACO, meanwhile, published the full list of the 168 drivers set to take part in the June 14-15 race, which confirms notable lineup additions and changes.
SMP Racing has reshuffled its squad, with sports car ace Mika Salo landing a seat in one of the team’s LMP2 cars.
Salo, who has been part of the Russian team’s GT program, will join Sergey Zlobin and Anton Ladygin in the No. 27 Oreca 03-Nissan, while Nic Minassian and Maurizio Mediani move to the No. 37 entry with Kirill Ladygin.
The change came due to Viktor Shaitar, who contested the opening two rounds of the FIA World Endurance Championship in LMP2, moving to the team’s GTE-Am effort for Le Mans with Andrea Bertolini and Aleksey Basov.
Greaves Motorsport, meanwhile, has firmed up its two-car LMP2 effort, with 2013 Asian Le Mans Series runner-up James Winslow being joined by Rudolf Nunemann and 17-year-old Alessandro Latif in the Caterham Racing-badged No. 42 Zytek Z11SN Nissan.
The entry was originally to be run under the Caterham banner but the British manufacturer backed out of the deal after the car was placed on the reserve list.
Greaves, however, kept the entry, which was confirmed a starting place on the grid late last month following a series of withdrawals. It it expected to run in Greaves’ traditional white and red livery.
Ironically, Greaves’ No. 41 entry will carry the Caterham colors for U.S. importer Chris Dyson, who will be joined by Tom Kimber-Smith and 16-year-old Matt McMurry, who is vying to become the youngest driver to start the twice-around-the-clock endurance classic.
Another change comes in the GTE-Am class, which sees team owner Enzo Potolicchio being replaced by Frankie Montecalvo in the No. 90 8Star Motorsports Ferrari F458 Italia. Montecalvo will join Italians Paolo Ruberti and Gianluca Roda in the orange-colored entry.
With the addition of Montecalvo, there are now a total of 17 American drivers set to take part in the twice-around-the-clock endurance classic, which will be carried LIVE on FOX Sports 1 and FOX Sports 2.
