5 days after loading=Kd_p9000e_hd_0penbox_x5_wicard= my openbox x5 is dead, the message on the TV is this.
COPYRIGHT CHECK
S/W authentication failed because the
security chip is invalid or empty.
If you have a clone openbox x5 don't use the latest firmware file posted here at satfix, its a clone killer.

No it is not a hardware problem, reports about this problem are all over the net and every one with the problem loaded the same
firmware, see post #1, it is a clone killer, or this firmware has problems.
If you have loaded this firmware and your receiver is not dead yet it would be a good time to load an older firmware,JMO,LOL.

How about posting pics of the box and which chip you think is the security chip? In the past I played with openbox code and it was not hard to play with, but at another site they talked about Ali chip based boxes with encryption on the files, so a file mod might be doable if no encryption. It was just MIPS code and IDA Pro had no trouble giving me a disassembly. That there is a message means that tracking down the code may be pretty straight forward.

How about posting pics of the box and which chip you think is the security chip? In the past I played with openbox code and it was not hard to play with, but at another site they talked about Ali chip based boxes with encryption on the files, so a file mod might be doable if no encryption. I have used the recovery by usb it loads as it should but it don't fix the problem.
the chip I think is the security chip looks just like the U7 chip in the jynxbox so I was thinking about trying to jump pin 3 & 8 to see
if would bring the rs232 port back to life, if it will I have an allchunk file I can load.

Well that does not mean anything to me, so I went to google to see if "jynxbox u7" got any hits and I did find some info on Jynxbox ultra HD u7 as MX25L3206E with a link to zigmcu site NOR_Flash_c and a pdf for the flash. Seems to be a serial flash 8 pin chip and connection between pin 3 to pin 8 would be to force WP# to +Vcc (hope you mean to use a resistor to do the bridge) and that would allow programming of the flash. BUT (and it is a big but), just enabling flash writes would have little to do with enabling the rs232 port--now it might be that what you are describing as rs232 "shutdown" is not really a shutdown of the serial port to the outside but a flash write enable problem--no way for me to know, but a flash chip is not a "security chip" but it is the place where ALL of the programing for the box get stored and read from. It would seem to me that your box is programmed and reading from the flash chip just fine, but at some point that code detects something that the programmers decided was indicative of a "clone" and shutting you down. Enabling writes to flash is not likely to help you IMO. What the box is detecting could be the ID code of the flash chip, but with the way the error message you get is phrased I would think that there might just be a chip that is a "security chip"--maybe an 8 pin micro controller programmed to respond in some unique way, or a real security chip (there are such things).

LOL, you didn't need to google it, the info is here at satfix in the jynxbox file section,=jynxbox FAQ and guides, stuck in red & blue.

I looked and searched here first--no hits. And "stuck in red and blue" does not mention u7 obviously so why would I think to look there? But as pointed out I don't think that has anything to do with your problem, so issue is moot.

You are correct.. The U7 is just a flash chip (programmable chip) Security is somewhere else.. A good pic and or schematic would be a great help.....

Ok here is what I am trying to do.
Others have repaired this problem using the rs232 port and flash the receiver, this worked on 98% of the receivers, the other 2%
is where I am at, the rs232 port is dead so you cant use the loader.
The rs232 port is what I am trying to bring back to life and the u7 chip looks like the only way to do it.

Well, it is possible to unsolder the flash, reprogram it and resolder it to the motherboard. I have one openbox that "died" on me that I've sort of been planing to do that with, but the chip is small and you need a carrier for it--couple of bucks for that. The programming software for the serial chips does not always work well--I could not get the chips I bought to read and I've read others had trouble too. There is a usb programmer for the chips, but I could not justify the cost for that with the cost of a new box, so still planing on hobby/freeware fix when I get the time.
I suppose that your flash could be dead too and the box is not booting up so that the serial port could work. But just bridging the pin 3 to pin8----just don't think that is all it would take.

Ok I got it fixed, I used a 10, ohm resistor to jump pin 3 & pin 8 of what looks like the U7 chip in a jynxbox.
After I jumped the pins I started the loader and turned on the openbox X5, as soon as the loader showed done I removed the jumper & loaded the files, it worked perfect and the openbox X5 is up and running.
