Does anyone out there receive 110 and 119 in the Edmonton Alberta area? I have a friend in that area that was told there is some sort of "Spot Beam" technology that blocks the signal. Never heard of that one before. Sounds like a bunch of BS to me. I have 18" dishes running one hour north of the US border and have no issues. Any thoughts? thanks in advance

i live in sherwood park and am getting 110 and 119 with good signal with a 30" dish. 119 is tricky because the default transponder on 119 does not broadcast anything so you have to change the transponder to get a signal. once set up is good. i doubt if an 18" would be big enough up here.

You will need a large solind dish to get 119.If you went south 1 hour a 15 inch would work but not here aroung Edmonton.1.2 meter is really to small as the channels will fade around 7pm.The 10 foot is great no fade

Check with satbeams.com, locate the satellite in the list, then click on the little green globe, this will give you an active footprint map for that satellite, select the CONUS beams for that satellite then zoom into your location, then click on it, this will give the estimated dish size needed at Your location.
Here is the footprint for 110W

And here is the footprint for 119W

Thank yoiu all your Edmontoneers or close to Edmonton! My daughter just moved out there last year and purchased an amazingly cheap house. ONLY $425,000 for 1300 square feet WOW!!!! Anyway, Shaw cable dominates out there and its nice to know now with a meter sized dish you can pick up 110/119 . Question though? Can you get 129 and the 82/91 sats? Thanks in advance Mikil

you can get 129 with a 30 inch dish.119 will fade in the evening without a bigger dish then 1 meter 1.8 is best 1.2 still fades.
Of course you can get 91/82 as thats bev which is Canadian satellite company.
There is lots on 110 & a 30 winguard would work great.why better then the china dishes

ok, i have a 1m dish and i get 119 and 110 on the same dish bouncing 110 off the side. before they put the new satellite up in space i had a hard time with 119. but now its easy, ive even gotten 119 with a 18" dish with no fading. i live on the southside of Edmonton. milkil123 and cilica if you want get in touch with me.

Again I say it's all in where you live in the footprint for these satellites, some can get them on an 18", some need to use as large as a 4 footer, if you check the links I posted above it will give you the estimated dish size needed for your location, or it can tell you if you can get the satellite at all.
And the further North you go from Edmonton the weaker the satellite gets, so the bigger the dish.

Yes I agree that a 1 to 1.2 meter (39 to 47 inch) is ideal to receive both 110 and 119 and the larger if you want to stay away from rain fade. good luck

In Jasper - 4 hours from Edmonton - with a 85cm dish aimed at our favorite 5 sats - and all is honky dory.
