Every year it seems, we’re good for at least one or two random, off-the-wall type NASCAR driver legal stories. So this one involving former NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Brian Rose is a good candidate for the 2014 “Mike Harmon/Jennifer Jo Cobb” type of random, potentially criminal stories.

Per WSOC-TV in Charlotte, Rose is reportedly at the center of a $15 million fraud investigation for creating a fake coal mining company as a way for investors to give him money. One alleged victim from Charlotte has reportedly came forward to authorities.

A 49-page indictment said investors attempted to cover up every detail to convince authorities that “New Century Coal” was legitimate. However, a Secret Service Agent told WSOC that the alleged company’s five-state operation was “too good to be true.”

Rose, 34, made 41 Truck starts between 2001 and 2010, and also failed to qualify for a single Sprint Cup race in 2002 at Martinsville Speedway. All but three of those Truck starts came between 2001 and 2003; he made three more in 2010.
