Hello Everyone:

In the past I must have watched my father for hours talking to people all over the world.
Not only that but CQ like a mug......
My father pasted away several years ago, and I would like to continue with his hobby.
Not only that, but I would like to own his past call sign.

I am aware of the license and etc that needs to be done.

My question is, what class do I need in order to be able to get his call sign?

I know he was an Extra, but he had Two different calls, He was WA2JEL when he was younger, and mid life he took WD8RLS, which is the one that I remember and want.
I think the call is for General, but not sure.
Or does it matter, can I get my Tech, and get his as a Vanity Call?????

I am going to learn what ever is needed to take his call sigh back to family.

Please let me know...

Thanks.

OK, first off study for your tech exam, you can down load it from QRZ.com, once you think you can pass that go take your test.

Then work up to general, after that you can go file with the FCC for that call sign, as a relative you may be able to get it.

Very Good Thanks.

So I am assuming that I am correct, that is a General Call Sign???
Oh, yeah, Can I do this No Code, or do I have to go Code also???

Thanks

You can go no code up to advanced, you can get a vanity call sign at tech level.(I think)

lol who needs a license? I like the under 30 mghz, lot's of space not on the FCC list. My favorite rig I had (still have a lot more in boxes) was an Icom 718. Very quick to mod to go 100hz to 30 Mhz continuous. Add an automatic antenna tuner, digital voice module, very nice. Only thing I wish that rig had was FM. Pushed 100W out the back, but Linear adders are easy to find at those freqs. Anyway very cool you want to do that for your Dad, good luck.
