After a six-year absence, Pilbeam is set to re-enter Le Mans racing next year with a new LMP2 car.

The British constructor took the wraps off the Pilbeam MP100, on Friday, which be campaigned next year by a South African team that hopes to take the car to the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The prototype is based off Pilbeam’s MP93, which last competed in the French endurance classic in 2007. While built around the same tub, the MP100 features significant aero and suspension updates.

Zoo Racing plans to take delivery of the first car, which will be powered by a four-cylinder turbo engine developed by Mountune. The squad won the inaugural African 6 Hour endurance race at Phakisa Raceway earlier this year with a Cosworth-powered Pilbeam MP98.

There are plans to build additional cars for potential customers wanting to compete in the various LMP2-eligible series, including the FIA World Endurance Championship.
