Hi all, I am looking for advise on if I should purchase a new Nfusion HD unit from a local shop. Doing some quick reading, I see you need to run through a PC or compatible router. Is this reliable? Do the channels change fast? Does it require a lot of maintenance? My other option is a pinwheel hd unit, not the best receiver but IKS and HD works out of the box. Any thoughts? Thanks

Nfusion HD works well if you get a compatible router and do the work to make everything work. There are good instructions available and if you have some experience in flashing receivers & routers plus networking you will be happy. You still need an 8 psk card to bring in HD plus a P$. You are wrong about the Pinwheel. It does not work out of the box. You may need to purchase and install an 8psk card and you also need a P$ and you need to load the latest file.

Server not auto connect once it disconnected from server, pain if you want to recording program
PVR not perfect but works

It has the best picture quality of any FTA receiver. The main negative for it is that if you're using South and you miss a control word, it won't auto recover, so you have to switch the channel and then go back to your original channel to get it working again. This isn't an issue for North.

It is a good STB but there is always exception to the rule. Overtime, you will have to replace the capacitors if the box only shows the blue lights. Once awhile, if you do a lot of channels surfing, you will have to totally recycle the power on the box as the audio seems to disappear. The cooling fan could also require replacing due to wear and tear. The box also get frozen if you are changing from North to South or vice-versa. The picture quality is top notched using HDMI connection. This is what I experience with my box. Others might not have these symptoms. Capacitors replacement are written somewhere in the forum.
You can get a used Linksys WRT54G router and using goofather firmware DD-WRT, it can run without connecting to a PC. You can also connect the box to a PC running NOI, so these are your choices.

I would go with your second option the pinwheel. You put in your information scan satellites and you are done. You don't need another router or a computer to get up and running. good luck
