If at first you don’t succeed, try again.
Having failed to qualify for the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway in early July, RAB Racing will once again attempt to make its Sprint Cup debut this weekend at Talladega.
Veteran driver Joe Nemechek will make his 39th career Sprint Cup start at the 2.66-mile Talladega Superspeedway in the No. 29 ToyotaCare Toyota Camry for RAB Racing.
“I am looking so forward to the opportunity this weekend to team up with RAB Racing and ToyotaCare to run a Sprint Cup Series car competitively,” Nemechek said in a team media release. “I’ve had success at Talladega in the past and am excited to race there again.”
While he’s never won a Cup race at ‘Dega, Nemechek has one top-five and five top-10 finishes, along with four poles – part of the reason why he has the nickname “Front Row Joe.”
If Nemechek qualifies and makes the race, Matt Lucas will make his Sprint Cup debut as a crew chief in Sunday’s Geico 500.
In six prior starts at Talladega in the Nationwide Series, RAB has one top-10 and four top-20 finishes.
