It looks like it may be a while before we get all channels back for Dishnet - the only channels working now are some locals and the adult channels.
The cards were not hit - they just stopped working properly in the card servers. In prior hits similar to this Dish has pulled the hit after a couple of days and everything went back to normal.

This could be the big hit that all the IPTV dealers have been waiting for - if Dish doesn't pull the hit this time - everyone will be lined up trying to buy IPTV receivers.
Once the masses move over to IPTV and those guys get some jingle in their pocket - it is going to be hard for Dish to stop them.
With IKS being so cheap there wasn't a big fortune to be made by streaming from legal subs - but give the IPTV guys a couple of months and watch out :-)

Dish down channels back??? My neighbour uses charley and hasn't missed a beat for quite a while. Ya I know charlie was supposed to do the big hit in November, well those that are guessing are now saying 2nd or 3rd quarter of next year. So until then get a good box and an i k s provider that costs more than 30 oranges a year and all will be good.

well i have notice i big increase in IPTV fire sales...looks like the migration has begun.....u guys are fooling yourself eventually they will shut it down. but in the mean time i will keep enjoy in it :yeaah:

Shouldn't be any doom OR gloom :-) - look at it as a new opportunity - or a new challenge - IMO it is going to eventually be bigger and better than IKS. Instead of watching a given show/program when it is broadcast you will be able to watch it ON DEMAND when you want to watch it.

If Dish doesn't pull the hit soon then most will move on to the next generation of receivers and that most likely will sink the DISH ship. They knew it was just a matter of time until ON DEMAND IPTV took over the market. Most of those Signal Integrity guys, investigators and lawyers won't be needed much longer - so I doubt if they are celebrating the end of IKS. This could be the end of their JOBs :-)

I love satellite - but with this hit I think Dish is putting a stake through their own heart :-(
I don't think IPTV had the critical mass of clients they needed to take the next big step in streaming channels to everyone. If this is the end of IKS they should now have that mass and moolah to take us all to the next level.

So - no doom or gloom - the sky is not falling - we may be just moving on to the next bigger and better "thing". As it stands I would prefer to plod along with satellite and IKS - I'm not a big fan of IPTV the way it is now - but give the big boys a chance to tweak it and I think I will learn to love IPTV.

I'm sure there are a lot out there like me that missed hacked DirecTV when it went down - then we had to move on to hacked DISH cards.
Then hacked DISH cards stopped working and we had to move on to DISH IKS. This may not be the end - but if it is - just think of it as the next step - it is not the END - just the next STEP.

It may be time to dump all of your DISH stock - sayonara - it was a great ride while it lasted.

I hear ya - I doubt it will ever end - it is just a new beginning - but those that are new to this hobby don't know what is going on.

I go back to the late 1990s and I don't think I have ever been down completely EVER. There is always some sort of hack working. Right now BEV is working and IPTV - so there are alternatives.
When Black Sunday came for DirecTV some of us were busy building 745 boards within the week and then Black Sunday programmers hit the market and a lot of us learned the art of soldering and assembling circuit boards :-) When DirecTV went down we moved on to Dishnet card hacking - that seemed so simple and easy to do. Then DISH kept changing cards and looping them and we came up with different ways to hack into them and unloop them - those were the good ole days. Reading TSOPS and dealing with those dreaded 301-013 receivers :-)
A lot of us started to learn how to make blockers to stop the attacks on the cards and how to build our own jTAGs.
When the end of hacked cards came - most of us moved on to FTA - doing our own thing with RQCS and small home servers helping our friends and neighbors. Then the big boys moved in and took card servers to a whole other level with Raton's FSLB and Bowman's CSP. Now anyone could serve thousands of clients with a small Linux server and a few RQCS card servers. As the card hits by DISH got more frequent a lot of the small mom and pop servers closed down and we moved on to the giant cache servers. These guys could easily service tens of thousands of guys at very little expense and developed a network of smaller dealers/resellers to take care of the service end of it.

In each of these cases it always looked like the end - but it never was - we all just moved on to the next bigger and better thing.
I have my opinion where we are headed next - but who knows - it could change overnight - that's just the nature of this hobby.

great post jedi.....but if memory serve me right once dish looped a card is was ice scraped for ever...even when it was soft looped...i never was able to successfully unloop one. i had one of the best programer boxes out their with the pot adjuster in the back....that at got from that scammer of milli.

I was there, and i have all receivers. Direct tv.SD and HD.Dish.Fta all on my basement about 20 of them but it was my best hobby
iven if i spended a ton of money , the trouble ,i`m getting holder and will be very hard to learning.It is time to watch the pc, it is lot on

Most hits don't bother the big IKS servers - usually about every 6 weeks DISH hits the cards so that they will not work in the card servers for any channel and will not work in the subscribed receiver either - they are dead. All they have to do is replace all of the cards in the card servers and they are back in business. It costs them a few thousand $$ to replace all of the cards - but that type of hit is fixable.

With yesterday's type of hit - the cards were not damaged - they still worked in their subscribed receiver. It didn't help to put new subscribed cards in the card servers because they did NOT work either. The new cards when put in the card servers would just get the locals channels and the porn channels if they were subscribed. So essentially there was NO fix for this type of hit. There never has been a fix for this type of hit - we just had to wait and see if DISH would pull the hit. Once again DISH pulled the hit this morning and all cards are back working again in the card servers as normal.

Looks like DISH is just playing some sort of "cat and mouse" game with us. We can only guess why they send this type of hit and then end up pulling it from the stream - but everyone is back up so who cares why they do it :-)
I've heard rumors that the hit was affecting some of the older subscribed receivers used in the Caribbean area and elsewhere and then another rumor that they were affecting some of their new receivers. As I said these are just rumors - so back to your easy chair with remote in hand - let's enjoy it while we can

This type of ECM must have a complicated code. I used to monitor the stream, but haven't in awhile. Could this type of ECM put a strain on the system? I'm just spit ballin' here.

1. Why does Dish need to put an end to IKS?
a. huge chunk of IKS users will never bring a single buck to Dish(99% of Canadians + large chunk of USA residents)
b. huge annual inventory sales on receivers used for IKS
c. stake in FTA receiver manufacturing industry?
d. regulations?

At the end of the day all comes down to "What drives bigger revenue" and no "What technology can be in place".

ive said it from day 1 especially when it comes to Canadians using iks that dish network is making hundreds of thousands dollars of years from Canadians using iks and watching dish since its against the law for Canadians to subscribe to dish network. If they do stop it then iptv will be much harder to stop if not impossible

haha, AVR, Atmega days - I had this JVC DVHS reciever which never got TSOP hit, it was something to do wth JVC brand as the VCR part would also stop working, it was aka full proof, awesome device

I used to carry a little piece of paper around with all of the different Dishnet ROM revisions that could be unlooped and what couldn't. I'm just looking at my stash of unloopers - I have over 50 of them. I ran a fairly well know web site at the time that offered unlooping services for all cards - we had pretty good success but it was time consuming and we couldn't do all revisions successfully. I ran into a young kid out of Montreal that could 100% successfully unloop any revision in under one minute - needless to say we started sending everyone of the cards that we received to him. I never did learn his secret - we tried everything - different trim pots different voltages different chips sets - but we could never duplicate his success on our own.
When they brought out the new card I figured this kid would have them unlocked in no time - but he tells me he was never successful. He could get in them but they would only last for a couple of days - and then puff - they self destructed.

Back in the day,, Sheridan Mall in Toronto had a Sat store where ppl lined up to get that fixed, more so - when FTA was released ( I think Pantec or black bird or something ), it was sold right outside the mall next to a T-Shirt vendor with tripod and sat to show how it worked
