Algieri, Pacquiao hit MacauPacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs), trainer Freddie Roach and the team flew in from his training camp in the Philippines with a group of 380 – yes, 380 -- friends and family. Pacquiao had so many people in his group that he needed two planes to bring them all.

Pacquiao-Algieri TV lineup for the Top Rank card Nov. 22 (HBO PPV, 9 ET) at the Venetian Macao's Cotai Arena in Macau, China:
• Welterweights: Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) vs. Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs), 12 rounds, for Pacquiao's title
• Flyweights: Zou Shiming (5-0, 1 KO) vs. Kwanpichit Onesongchaigym (27-0-2, 12 KOs), 12 rounds, title eliminator

• Featherweights: Vasyl Lomachenko (2-1, 1 KO) vs. Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo (52-1, 33 KOs), 12 rounds, for Lomachenko's title
• Junior welterweights: Jessie Vargas (25-0, 9 KOs) vs. Antonio DeMarco, 12 rounds, for Vargas' title

Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs), trainer Tim Lane and their team had a considerably smaller group arrive from his training camp in Las Vegas.

Algieri, who arrived a day before Pacquiao, spent part of his day making an appearance before hundreds of boxing fans as he posed for pictures and answered questions at the St. Mark’s Square section of the Shoppes at Venetian.

“With 1 million square feet of retail space and over 350 stores at the Shoppes at Venetian, I think I can get in my daily roadwork and my Christmas shopping, all at the same time,” Algieri joked. “I love Macau. It was great during my last visit on the promotional tour, and it is even better this time. I am glad to be able to spend more time here.”

Algieri, a junior welterweight titleholder moving up to face Pacquiao at a catchweight of 144 pounds, said he is confident of victory because of how hard he worked during a 10-week training camp.

“I worked hard for over 10 weeks in the most strenuous and productive training camp of my career,” he said. “I had a lot of different sparring partners, including [former welterweight and junior welterweight titlist] Zab Judah, giving me different looks to prepare me for anything Pacquiao decides to throw at me. I am 110 percent prepared for our fight.”

Algieri ready for the spotlight

Pacquiao-Algieri TV lineup for Saturday night (HBO PPV, 9 ET) at the Venetian Macao's Cotai Arena in Macau:
• Welterweights: Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) vs. Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs), 12 rounds, for Pacquiao's title
• Flyweights: Zou Shiming (5-0, 1 KO) vs. Kwanpichit Onesongchaigym (27-0-2, 12 KOs), 12 rounds, title eliminator
• Featherweights: Vasyl Lomachenko (2-1, 1 KO) vs. Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo (52-1, 33 KOs), 12 rounds, for Lomachenko's title
• Junior welterweights: Jessie Vargas (25-0, 9 KOs) vs. Antonio DeMarco (31-3-1, 23 KOs), 12 rounds, for Vargas' title

And then Algieri won a decision -- and did so rather easily. In a sport where fairness is often as hard to come by as winning lottery numbers, Algieri, who made a then-career-high $15,000 to fight Taylor, was shown some. He got the shot, and a $100,000 purse, to challenge Provodnikov instead.
They met on June 14, and Provodnikov, a big puncher in contrast to Algieri's cutesy boxing style, was the prohibitive favorite in his first title defense. Few gave the 30-year-old Algieri, a former kickboxer, a chance. He wasn't even able to have a full-time training camp, because he needed to work a second job as a personal trainer, even in the days leading up to the biggest fight of his life at that point.
"I was training people on Tuesday of fight week," said Algieri, who lives in his parents' basement, drives a 2001 Honda Civic and had a third job as a nutritionist.
Most thought Provodnikov would plow through Algieri and move on to a big fight with welterweight titlist and international star Manny Pacquiao. And then a funny thing happened on the way to the easy win.
Although Provodnikov scored two knockdowns in the first round and caused massive swelling over Algieri's right eye, which blinded him for most of the fight, Algieri showed immense toughness and good enough boxing ability to eke out a split-decision victory.
While Algieri -- who wants to go to medical school -- used his part of his purse to pay off student loans that helped him earn a bachelor's degree in health science from Stony Brook University and a master's degree in clinical nutrition from the New York Institute of Technology, Pacquiao, the Filipino icon and boxing's only eight-division titleholder, was suddenly without a dance partner.

Juan Manuel Marquez was not interested in extending their all-time rivalry to a fifth fight and Floyd Mayweather Jr. -- well, we all know the story there. Once again, Algieri was in the right place at the right time and he got the shot.
And that leads the boxing world to Macau, where Algieri, who will earn $1.675 million, will find himself moving up a few pounds to challenge Pacquiao for his title at a catchweight of 144 pounds on Saturday night (HBO PPV, 9 ET) at the Venetian Macao's Cotai Arena in Macau.
But as 2014 dawned, Algieri was just another unknown boxer looking for a break. Eleven months later, he owns a world title, is set to make a life-altering payday and will face the most famous fighter in the world.
Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) has remained a regular guy despite the newfound attention, but admitted that, yes, it has all happened so fast -- not that he wasn't ready for it.
"It's zero to 100, and that is just the nature of the game," Algieri said. "I told my mother a joke the other day and she said, 'Chris, it's just the way you said it would happen.' It's nothing, then boom! It is a full-on sprint. It's the nature of the business, and I'm not surprised by it.
"I've been watching this sport for years and I have seen it with other fighters. I knew my time would come and I just had to stay focused and disciplined, and if you work hard good things happen. I am right where I am supposed to be."
Algieri, an outgoing sort, has embraced everything about the promotion. He has soaked it all in.

Making The Rounds Max Kellerman joins Dan Rafael and Brian Campbell to preview Manny Pacquiao-Chris Algieri.

Rather than going away to a closed training camp in isolation like many do, he set up shop with trainer Tim Lane and his team in Las Vegas, taking up residency at the Venetian and conducting daily public workouts.
"Chris has been handling the pressure like there is no pressure," said Lane, who is also involved in his first really big fight. "There is a lot of relaxation and meditation and ice baths after workouts. This is the Chris Algieri Show. This is what he had visualized for years, and now he has the situation the way he has always dreamt about having it.
"This is a dream come true, so there is no pressure. There is great energy, and Chris is feeding off all of it and he is stronger than ever."
While Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs), 35, trained in the Philippines and largely was not accessible to the American media following the 12-day, 27,273-mile media tour to promote the fight in late August, Algieri has been everywhere. He has done yeoman's work to carry the promotion almost single-handedly.
Some fighters would chafe under such enormous attention. Not Algieri.
"It has been fantastic," he said. "It's the kind of stuff that you want as a fighter coming up. I am now a champion and fighting at the elite level and you want this kind of exposure. A lot of guys say this, but when it comes they really don't want it. I'm not that kind of guy. This stuff gets me up.
"My open workouts are like fight day. I've got a lot of pressure on me and I ride it to the top. I am enjoying my time here and my time under the microscope and I believe that has helped our whole team step up to perform that much better."

Part of what made it so easy for Algieri to thrust himself into the event, as well as training, is because it is the first time in his career he wasn't working a second or third job while preparing to fight.
He said that made a huge difference.
"I have been a full-time boxer for this camp, so all of this other stuff I have been doing is kind of on par with stuff I have been doing anyway," he said. "I am a guy that does a million other things in addition to boxing. I have a lot of other stuff that I have been into in my entire career and I have put all of that on hold. Now I am doing more stuff involved in the actual promotion of the fight, like doing interviews and making appearances. So for me, I am no busier than I have ever been. I have always been a busy guy."
As for the fight itself, Lane said Algieri will have no problem with Pacquiao's southpaw style because for whatever reason, he has been more effective against lefties than righties. He also said that Algieri, who would owe Pacquiao a rematch should he win, would not shrink under the bright lights of the moment on fight night.
"Chris has prepared and dreamt about this night for many years and risen to the occasion of every event he has been in. The better his competition, the better he is," Lane said. "What he did with Ruslan he did with one eye. I don't think this is as tough of a fight as Ruslan. I believe Chris will dominate Pacquiao more than Ruslan,

Algieri has similar confidence despite being a massive underdog again, this time against one of the greatest fighters in boxing history. Algieri is not faster than Pacquiao and certainly not as big of a puncher. But he has a few inches in height and reach and a good jab.
"[Algieri] is a pretty good mover. He moves pretty well and he is very defensive. He has a good jab -- one of the best in the business -- and he has a good left hand," said Freddie Roach, Pacquiao's Hall of Fame trainer. "His jab is his best weapon, and it is something that we have to really take care of."
Algieri also has inner confidence and swagger.
"My mental makeup and my mental strength has always been the difference in my fights," he said. "And that is what will propel me once again to victory."

If Manny goes 12 rounds with this young guy he will lose the fight and with it the chance o a Mega fight with the P4P king. Ny is tall, fast and full of cojones. Algeiri is half latino, his mother is Argentinian. Manny hasn't knock any one in years, without peds he's just another boxer.

I think Manny can and will WIN.. but he is getting OLD and was KOed by JM Marquez... I mean 1 good shot to the chin with Manny rushing in and he could be OUT again.

Remember the CHIN never recovers....... Sugar Ray Leonard and Thomas Hitman Hearns and Many great fighters say that. Once you are KOed and I not talking a TKO Im talking you are KNOCKED THE FU*K OUT, your chin never can take that kinda punch again.

Look at Mike Tyson... Buster Douglas KOED HIM and TYSON never was able to take a good shot again.... He was TKO 2 times and Lennox Lewis KOed his ARSE.

Jake Lamatta is the only boxer that I have seen that could take power punches and I dunno how he did it but he stayed up.
ST Valentines day Massacare when Sugar Ray Robinson TKO Jake Lamatta was BRUTAL and Im not talking about the movie..

Sugar Ray Robinson said if the REF didnt stop the FIGHT that he probably would of stopped punching from exhaustion b/c he was hitting Lamatta with all FULL POWER PUNCHES.. RIGHT HANDS and LEFT HOOKS and UPPER CUTS and even his JABS were hard and it was the last 27 un answered blows Im talking about in the 13 ROUND.

So what Im saying is if MANNY gets KOED again,.. I would not be surpised.. However if he loses on the score cards I would be surprised unless he really took a beating.

Can't understand why a catch weight of 144 for a title fight in the 147 weight division, Arum draining opponents. Also , must point out the use of electronic equipment for the wight in. tpo the point that 2 ounces overweight showed up on the challenger. Making him lose that weight in two hours. The Argentinan mixed looks positive.

WOW thats BIG $$$$$$$$$ at least its HD.. PBF aka Money Mayweathers HD PPVs are 79$ SD and 89$ HD

There is other ways to watch even on you TV and Im not talking about IKS.

a PC and TV out via HDMI can save you $100s if not $1000s of $ if you are a big PPV event buyer.

However I think Pacman will win but he wont KO the Chris, I mean its possible but not likely... even since Jaun M, Marquez KTFO of Manny he has not been the same... he has been very cautious... b/c he knows he cant RUSH in with his chin up in the air thinking no one can hurt him.... He KNOWS he cant be KOED and not just hurt but I mean really KNOCKED OUT UNCONSCIOUS like the way J.M Marquez did and there are harder punchers then Marquez out there.

So I think Chris has a better chance KOing Manny, however Manny wont let that happen and it will probably be a 12 Decsion for manny.

Personally I think Mannys fights are no longer going to be as entertaining as they used to be. I mean at a pure boxer stand point who likes to see RING Generalship and perfect boxing / HIT and not be HIT.. Sorta like how CUS DeMatto used to say..

** YOU DONT GET HIT AND YOU WIN.. ITS THAT SIMPLE ***

However Manny is now scared to get HIT... So I really dont think his fights are going to be worth the 69$ for SD and 79$ for HD

at least with Mayweather he knows he dont have the legs to Dance around for 12 rounds and I have to give him credit, with Alverez he really went toe to toe and with Marcos Maidana he had to sorta box but he did FIGHT however Maidana fights so akward it like fighting a SouthPaw some fighters have said.

However do you see my point with Manny?
He is a scared fighter now.. Scared he is going to get KO again and if he does its all over..... or perhaps on HBO Boxing after Dark.
he wont be a PPV attraction. Plus he is getting OLD..... Plus all the PEDs he took are probably taking a toll since he cant take them anymore...

Well if Manny comes in over 144 LBS he is slower. Remember Manny dont really cut any weight.. He actually puts on weight when he fights at 147 Pound.. and Didnt he fight at 154, Yea he fought Antonio Margarito who was not the same fighter b/c he couldnt load his gloves anymore however that fight was at 154 Jr Middleweight... it was for the vacant WBC World light middleweight title
and since it was a WBC Title he had to come in between 148 and 154 and I think he came in at 151 LBS for that FIGHT...

and I actually rememeber Manny saying that Margarito hurt him to the body.. You know Margarito used to throw them nasty body shots over and over and I remember it hurt Manny.

That was last fight manny was Jr Middleweight aka Light Middle weight.. Remember Middle weight is 160 and then weight class below is 154 and next weight class above middle weight is Super Middle weight 168

Strange how WBC calls a weight class 1 name and IBF or WBA will call it a simular name but not the same.

Also strante how WBC has 2 World title belts..

Like Silver World Welterwieght Champion - Amir Khan but then they have Gold Welterwieght Champion - Floyd Mayweather Jr.
then whats funny is they have a intrim world champion....

I guess they like the sanctioning fees.

Personally I like the RING Championship belt......

Reminds me of ROCKY II and ROCKY III
they used the RING Championship belt

anways....

Welterweight titlist Manny Pacquiao weighed in at 143.8 pounds Friday to easily make weight for his title defense against Chris Algieri on Saturday night (HBO PPV, 9 ET) at the Venetian Macao's Cotai Arena in Macau.

Junior welterweight titlist Algieri, who works as a nutritionist as a side job and was moving up in weight, surprisingly failed to make the catch weight contract limit of 144 pounds on his first try. He was slightly over at 144.2 pounds, even after stripping nude.
[+] Enlargehttp://a.espncdn.com/photo/2014/1121/box_a_pacquiao_algieri3x_300x200.jpg (http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2014/1121/box_a_pacquiao_algieri3x_600x400.jpg)AP Photo/Kin CheungChris Algieri, right, failed to make the catch weight contract limit of 144 pounds on his first try.

Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) had two hours to lose the weight, but used only about an hour before coming back to the scale and making weight at 143.6 pounds.
The weigh-in took place in the early morning hours Saturday in Macau, which is 13 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time in the United States. The fight will take place Sunday morning Macau time to accommodate the live American HBO PPV broadcast.
Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs), the Filipino icon and boxing's only eight-division titleholder, will be making the first defense of his title since regaining it by lopsided unanimous decision against Timothy Bradley Jr. in April in a rematch of Bradley's hugely controversial split decision in June 2012.
All of the other featured fighters on the pay-per-view card made weight on the first try.
Flyweight Zou Shiming (5-0, 1 KO), the three-time Olympic medalist (including back-to-back gold medals in 2008 and '12), made the division limit of 112 pounds for his world title eliminator against Kwanpichit Onesongchaigym (27-0-2, 12 KOs), of Thailand, who was also 112.
Featherweight titleholder Vasyl Lomachenko (2-1, 1 KO), a two-time Olympic gold medalist from Ukraine, was right on the division limit of 126 pounds for his first defense. Challenger Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo (52-1, 33 KOs), of Thailand, was also 126.
Las Vegas junior welterweight Jessie Vargas (25-0, 9 KOs), defending his secondary world title for the second time, was at the division limit of 140 pounds. Challenger Antonio DeMarco (31-3-1, 23 KOs), the former lightweight world titleholder from Mexico, was 139.3 pounds.

Manny was "disturbed" by her mother's antics in the dressing room, but like a good son, he kept his cool.

Dionisia is definitely "over the top" before, during, and after the fight"! Highwayman, go tell Teddy Atlas, she has a crush on him! :)

Aw, come on, Rudee! Ziming and Onesongchaigym were entertaining! That Onesong guy was throwing bombs all night! And if you turned off the tv on the 9th, you missed the a few "fabulous one liners by Tim Lane, Algeiri's trainer:

End of round nine: ‘We are exactly where we need to be.’ (Presumably flat on his back.)
End of round 10: ‘Chris, I’m letting you out of the cage.’
End of round 11, at 17 points behind with one round to go: ‘Hit him in the body and stay on his ass. This is The Chris Algieri Show.’

Ops, sorry, I missed a few more "incredible one-liners" by Lane:
End of round three, after first knock downs: ‘You’re doing beautiful man. Keep it up.’
End of round seven, following another knock-down: ‘This is where we want to be.’
During round nine, seconds before the heaviest knock down: ‘Chris is going to put him to sleep in a few minutes.’

Don't cha ever wonder what Lane was smoking?

Ha ha ha!! i did miss those.. thanks for the update... funny!
I will say this though,,, after thinking it over.
Manny is a small fighter, but at this stage of their careers,
I think he is a better fighter than Floyd is right now.
Floyd's skills have diminished more than Manny's have.
We would never see Manny running around the ring like a wild man,
the way we saw Floyd do against Maidana in the 12th round.
Would love to see Manny fight Maidana if no Floyd.
Lets see how he would fare. I would take Manny in this one.

We need to see someone with a punch like Danny Boy or Thurman in front of Manny to then make that judgment call. You go forward when they can't hurt you. Manny's been hurt so he knows the difference. Kudos to Pacquiao, regardless of his opponent, he fought a good fight.

I totally agree... but we need to get Floyd in front of some good fighters too.
Maidana strictly one dimentional.
Both fighters have to step up in opponents class.
This NY er Manny fought should start delivering Sparkletts or the Times.
He is horrible.. Bradley pretty much went away against Manny.
Everything around my parts says Manny is dying to fight Floyd..
So come on Floyd,,, sign on the dotted line. Lets get it on.

During round nine, seconds before the heaviest knock down: ‘Chris is going to put him to sleep in a few minutes.’
