Food labels almost always tell the whole story when it comes to the food you and I eat. Unfortunately, food labels don’t show enough information, such as stuff like where the ingredients of the things you’re eating came from.
Pink Slime is the perfect example of what exactly it is I’m talking about!

What it is
Pink slime is beef or beef trimmings or any beef “rejects” that’s been treated with ammonia and processed over and over again to make it viable for use! Where you’ll find it
No, it’s not ice cream and you won’t find pink slime there. In fact, you’ll find pink slime on most commercial chicken nuggets, hambugers and even hotdogs!
Now, if that shocked you, wait till you get to know a bunch of other shocking and disgusting ingredients that you’re probably eating everyday!
P.S – Do stop eating before moving on. I don’t want to be blamed for you puking or anything.

Carmine

What it is:
Carmine isn’t a chemical and most especially, it’s an element. It may sound fancy and all, but it’s just a simple red food coloring that’s made of boiled cochineal bugs. Or, for short, it’s a red color made out of boiled and ground up beetles! Where you’ll find it:
Majority of the food items these days that are colored any shade of red contains carmine. A good example of this would be Skittles, certain brains of strawberry yogurt, and food colorings.

Lanolin

http://myzone.verticallabs.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/disgustingcaliser2.jpg

What it is:
Lanolin in its most basic form, comes from sheep wool. So, basically, it’s sheep sweat. What’s worse is that sheep, more often than not, are almost always exposed to insecticides. This means that over time, these harmful chemicals could build up over time. And, when Lanolin is extracted, anything it’s used in not only is sheep sweat, but also, filled with harmful chemicals. Where you’ll find it:
You’ll find lanolin as a common ingredient in lotions, moisturizers and other skin care products. What’s worse is that it’s also a common ingredient in chewing gums as a way to make it softer and easier to chew.

Castoreum

http://myzone.verticallabs.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/disgustingcaliser3.jpg

What it is:
Castoreum is made out of dried perineal glands of beavers. What are perineal glands you may ask? It’s the beaver’s ball sacks. I REAPEAT. BALL SACKS. Where you’ll find it:
Castoreum is a common ingredient used in strawberry, raspberry and vanilla flavorings. This means candies, gums, gelatins and puddings flavored as such could contain Castoreums or for its more “ewish form”, Beaver Ball Sacks.

Canned Mushrooms

http://myzone.verticallabs.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/disgustingcaliser4.jpg

What it is:
There’s always the ever-present debate about eating vegetables and any food items fresh instead of canned. But, the convenience of canned makes canned goods a more attractive option. Though, when it comes to mushrooms, you may want to consider. The reason for this is that canned mushrooms contain BPA in can’s linings. And, that’s not all, Canned Mushrooms also contain about 19 maggots and 74 mites every 3.5 ounce or so.
Now, the most surprising part is that the exact numbers came from the FDA itself. What’s even worse is that they allow such a number to go through canned mushrooms, saying that such a number is perfectly healthy!
True, these maggots aren’t likely to hurt you or do any damage. But, I’d be lying if I said that they aren’t very appetizing and should make you think twice about buying canned mushrooms the next time around.

L-Cysteine

http://myzone.verticallabs.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/disgustingcaliser5.jpg

What it is:
L-Cyesteine is an amino acid that comes from either duck feathers or human hair or both. Where you’ll find it: As tasty as most readily available bread products are, you may want to think twice if it’s mass-produced. Fact is, mass produced bread products contain huge traces of L-Cyesteine. And, save from gluten-free bread products, you really aren’t safe from duck feathers and/or human hair

Isinglass

http://myzone.verticallabs.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/disgustingcaliser6.jpg

What it is:
Isinglass is basically a glorified term for dried fish bladders Where you’ll find it:
Believe it or not, wheat isn’t the only main ingredient you’ll find in your beer. If you check the labels, you’ll find Isinglass, which is the so-called “natural food coloring” that gives beer its appealing golden hue.

Arsenic

http://myzone.verticallabs.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/disgustingcaliser7.jpg

What it is:
Common knowledge and high school basic chemistry taught you that Arsenic is one of the most basic and most potent poisons known to mankind. Where you’ll find it:
Surprisingly, the FDA approves of the use of arsenic in chicken injections to make their meat look fresher and more pink. What’s even worse is that chicken manure used to feed cows is also laced with arsenic.

Sprayed-on Viruses and/or Bacteria

http://myzone.verticallabs.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/disgustingcaliser10.jpg

What it is:
Sprayed-on viruses and/or bacteria are the same bacteriophages hospitals use to kill germs. Yes, they’re virus or bacteria, but their purpose is to kill others that may harm the human body. Where you’ll find it:
Unfortunately, that doesn’t make it as much of an interesting thought, more so since the FDA themselves have approved its use in almost all types of meat to prevent the spread of listeria.
