There was a lot of interest in this heavyweight contest. it was built to be a blockbuster that will resurrect Heavyweight boxing in America. It was meant to deliver a message to the world that America has a serious heavyweight champion to challenge for the undisputed world title.
Sorry but........we did not see a serious threat to dethrone Vladimir Klitschko as the world's great heavyweight. His titles are fairly safe.
There is one thing this bout did - legitimize the accomplishments of Deontay Wilder. Those who questioned his 32-0, 32 KO record, have been silenced.
Wilder is 29 years old with a mission, to provide for his daughter who was born with spina bifida, a severe disabling issue that involves a split spine. Wilder's motivation is to "lay the gold on her daughter's lap".
Wilder had two occasions when he had Stiverne in trouble but the Haitian escaped the barrage of punches that Wilder rained on him.
By sheer number of punches connected, Wilder wins a unanimous decision and picked up the heavyweight crown - realizing his goal. Unfortunately, he could not wrestle the world's championship belts from Klitschko. He is still relatively young, though. Perhaps with a few more matches and a couple more years' experience, he may enhance his skills to have better chances at the world crown.
The conclusion is that Wilder is for real...and he can last 12 rounds.
