Two tall trees are growing in the forest. One was a birch tree and the other was a beech tree. For a hundred years they grew up together and were the best of friends. One day a small tree begins to grow between them. One tree says to the other: "Is that a son of a beech or a son of a birch?" The other says he cannot tell from up here.
Just then a woodpecker comes by. The tall tree says, "Woodpecker, you are a tree expert. Can you tell if that little tree between us is a son of a beech or a son of a birch?"
The woodpecker flys down to the little tree, after quite a while he flies back up to the big trees and replies: "It is neither, my friends, but it's the best ash I've ever had my pecker in."
