Bob Arum: Deal close on Mega fight
The megafight that the boxing world has been clamoring for between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. should be finalized in "the next couple days," Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told the New York Post.
The sides have been negotiating what will certainly be the richest fight in boxing history, but no deal has been struck yet. The two fighters met privately for more than an hour on Tuesday in Miami.
"Everybody is doing the right thing," Arum told the Post on Friday. "We're looking to complete the paperwork. Everything is moving in the right direction. Hopefully, the next couple of days it will get done."
One of the issues is that Time Warner/HBO, which has a contract with Pacquiao, and CBS/Showtime, which has Mayweather under contract, need to hammer out terms for a joint pay-per-view telecast, which they did once before for the 2002 fight between then-heavyweight world champion Lennox Lewis and former champ Mike Tyson. They have been negotiating the terms.
"I think it helped a lot because we were all putting papers together, and there was still a question as to whether Floyd really wanted to do the fight or not," Arum told the Post of the Miami meeting. "Based on the meeting with Pacquiao in the hotel suite, Manny and [Pacquiao adviser] Michael Koncz were convinced Floyd absolutely wants to do the fight."
Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs), the 36-year-old Filipino legend, and Arum have repeatedly said they have agreed to all of the terms outlined by Mayweather (47-0, 26 KOs), who turns 38 in February, during talks with CBS CEO Leslie Moonves, who has served as the go-between on behalf of Mayweather and his adviser, Al Haymon.
Mayweather has said he intends to fight May 2 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, be it against Pacquiao or somebody else.

Moonves and Showtime seem to have the far stronger position. They have the bigger attraction – Pacquiao has agreed to a 60-40 purse split that favors Mayweather, and Koncz admitted to Yahoo Sports that Mayweather is the so-called 'A' side – and so it's going to be Showtime that's in position to make demands.
If HBO doesn't bend to the wishes of Mayweather and Showtime and essentially blocks the show from occurring, it's going to severely cripple its ability to work in the boxing space.

All of what has happened during the last few days have pushed Mr. Mayweather into a corner forcing him to finally put himself inside the ring with Pacquiao. The excuses and alibis not to face his nemesis are diminishing. Thus, he is looking to Showtime or HBO, or anyone, to sabotage the mega-fight. TMZ, as usual, miscalculated proceedings and pulled the trigger prematurely, prompting TBE to "deny the deal" with his tweet hashtag: "FightNotMadeYet". (No wonder no one took my 5000 satbux bet!)

There is a conspicuous absence in this discussion. There is "deathly silence" here isn't it? Suddenly the trumpeting of the supposedly mega fight at the super bowl has come to a jolting stop. The reason is............... (you provide the rest of the statement):
A fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao wasn't announced during Sunday's Super Bowl, nor is it a done deal, but the two sides are approaching a likely make-or-break next few days.
After six years of on-again, off-again talks in which negotiations have failed multiple times, the two camps have hit a wall as they attempt to make a May 2 fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas happen.
"The thing that really concerns me is that we are running out of time for May 2," Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, who represents Pacquiao, told ESPN.com on Monday. "If you want to drag this out a little longer then move the fight to later in May -- May 30 is a good date -- or go in June. We agreed to go on May 2 because that is the date Mayweather is hung up on, but if we're going to go on May 2 we need to get this done."
[+] Enlargehttp://a.espncdn.com/photo/2014/0923/box_g_mayweather1x_300x200.jpg (http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2014/0923/box_g_mayweather1x_600x400.jpg)Ethan Miller/Getty ImagesFloyd Mayweather Jr.'s camp doesn't seem to have any urgency to work out the finer details of a contract, according to Manny Pacquiao's promoter.
If a meeting between the two welterweight champions in Pacquiao's Miami hotel suite last Tuesday night -- after they met face-to-face earlier in the evening and exchanged cell phone numbers during a chance halftime meeting at the Miami Heat Milwaukee Bucks game they were coincidentally both attending -- led to the fight talks taking two steps forward, they have taken one step back in recent days.
While many were led to believe that the fighter camps were on the same page following the hotel meeting, and that the deal hinged only on CBS/Showtime, which has Mayweather under contract, and Time Warner/HBO, Pacquiao's exclusive network, finalizing a deal for a joint pay-per-view telecast, there are still open deal points between the fighters.
"There are issues that should be solved in 10 minutes, but it's a slow dance," Arum said. "We send one draft to their side and their lawyer sends back a draft with something else that's an issue. And there doesn't seem to be any urgency about it on their side. It's terrible."
Arum has negotiated many of the deal points for the bout through CBS chief executive Leslie Moonves, who has acted as a go-between for Mayweather and his adviser, Al Haymon. Arum said he continues to remain in touch with Moonves and that they exchanged emails on Monday trying to work out the issues.
"I've asked Les to expeditiously handle the points there are issues with," said Arum, who declined to go into the specific issues. "Moonves can handle it. The question is whether the Mayweather side will listen to him. If they're sincere about trying to make the fight it shouldn't be an issue, or are they playing a game? I don't know. I go back and forth. I thought they were always playing a game, that Floyd didn't want the fight.
"Then Manny and (adviser) Michael (Koncz) spent an hour or so with Mayweather in the hotel suite and they read it that, no, Mayweather really wants the fight. But I don't know. If people were really concentrating on this it could be done in no time."
Many of the issues that come up in a fight negotiation have been agreed to as Pacquiao, who has agreed to extend his Jan. 31-imposed deadline, and Arum have given in to one Mayweather demand after another. They include the financial split (60-40 in Mayweather's favor), Mayweather's preferred drug testing protocol (the one deal point that killed the initial negotiations in late 2009 and early 2010), the date, site, order of the ring walks and introductions and the name of the fight (Mayweather-Pacquiao). But there are still issues to work out.
"There are unresolved issues on both the fighter deal and the network deal. (The fighters are) on the same page regarding basic deal points but there are lot of meaningful items still unresolved," said one source involved in the negotiations.
The networks have been working on the terms in recent weeks, dealing with such issues as how to blend their on-air talent for the telecast, who will actually produce and direct the telecast in addition to numerous other production issues and how to handle the delayed broadcast.
According to sources involved in the talks, Showtime has pushed for a similar scenario they agreed to in their landmark 2002 deal to do a joint pay-per-view for the Lennox Lewis-Mike Tyson heavyweight title fight when Lewis was signed to HBO and Tyson was with Showtime. For that deal, they agreed that the network whose fighter won the fight would get the replay rights and pay the other network $3 million. HBO, however, according to sources, is pushing for simultaneous network replays of Mayweather-Pacquiao.
Stung by recent media reports that it is holding up a deal, HBO, which has not even publicly acknowledged the negotiations in the first place, issued a surprising statement on Monday in which it essentially said that nobody should blame it if the deal doesn't get done.
"We are not an impediment to this fight. We stand ready to go. The principals need to agree to terms and come to a deal," HBO Sports said in the statement.
If the fighters and networks do not reach terms both sides need to make alternative plans. Mayweather (47-0, 26 KOs) has said he intends to fight on May 2 whether it's against Pacquiao or somebody else, perhaps middleweight champion Miguel Cotto, of Puerto Rico, or former unified junior welterweight titlist Amir Khan of England.
The main target for Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs) in a backup plan to Mayweather is a May 30 fight against Khan, whom he met with and talked to about a possible deal during a trip to London two weeks ago.

I say Pacquiao is at fault here, singning a contract with Top Rank is the reason why this fight hasn't been made.

totally agree....in fact I posted that waaaaay back that this fight would be a trilogy....the money would be staggering. However at this age.....how good would the fights be in comparison had they fought even a few years ago? I`ll maintain REAL fighters would have fought each other years ago no matter what their respective camps had to say about it. A fight now would be interesting but that`s all the credit I`d give it. A classic between these 2 had it`s chance....and they blew it.
What kind of fight will it be? I think it will be farggen amazing ,, all of boxings fans young and old will tune in, in anticipation ,, all boxers past and present will be in attendance ,, hell even the most notable Hollywood personalities will be on hand, Stallone, Jason Statham,,Randy Couture,, .. your gonna have Justin Bieber ,, 50 cent ,, JayZ,, a bunch of other rappers ,, it's gonna be the place to see and be seen,, they will promote this baby for ALL it's worth ,, it's gonna be academy Awards style ..
Why didn't this happen sooner? I don't know?? but I'm guessing EGOS ,,, probably not about the money (cause both of them have more money than God) but the split ,, one guy wants 50-50 the other guy wants 60-40 ,,
60-40 means I'm better than you,, before we even fight and EGOS could't decide who was better ,, clearly since Pacquiao lost those fights ,, Mayweather commands the split
As far as what will happen in the ring? my answer is ,,,, who knows, who cares!! ,, so long as we get to relive it 3 times .. LOL

The level of frustration about this fight has now reached the sky with the excitement plummeting dangerously low. It has gone past the blame game. Some have now put the onus squarely on SHOWTIME (CBS) and HBO (Time Warner), two competing boxing broadcast giants - to come to terms on broadcasting rights. But think about it. Is it really that complicated to come to terms on a contract that could significantly be the highest grossing shared broadcast ever? Are they nuts?
The statement issued by TIME WARNER/HBO is this: "We are not an impediment to this fight. We stand ready to go. The principals need to agree to terms and come to a deal."
We have not heard from SHOWTIME/CBS! Neither a denial nor confirmation of the statement. From the outset, and before the scintillating rumour circulated prior to the Super Bowl, I have challenged anybody to a bet that the fight is not happening. I still maintain today that the risk/reward ratio plays a significant role in this entire issue. Money May's $200 million contract with Showtime is easy money. The mega million prospect of P4P#1 and #2 meeting in the ring presents a serious consideration of that risk/reward.
In terms of earnings, TBE commands a good price without Pacman. In relative terms, Pacquiao won't do badly either, although it is plain to see that this could conceivably represent a fabulous investment. If he beats Floydie, his next and maybe his last fight would shatter records.
So where is the ball right now? Vacationing TBE seems not in any hurry to capitulate to anyone - not even the fans.
Perhaps it is why HBO issued their statement. They threw the ball back to where it belongs. And the ball is lying there in the sand. No effort whatsoever is being taken to pick it up and run.
Cotto is salivating at the prospect.....so is Khan!
The Cobra
02-04-2015, 10:20 PM
They will maneuver themselves into an old folks home trying to pick up chump change in lieu of the grand prize that both of them know will never happen. Sure Cotto and Khan are salivating because they`re in for some of that "chump change" and who would blame them. Neither of them benefit from a PBF/Pac fight in the least because IF that fight happens and one of them doesn`t quit it would be a trilogy Pac/PBF before both of them hit the stud farm and there would be no Cotto nor Khan fight.
It`s all about maneuvering.....this event has nothing to do with fighting anymore....if it ever did.

Arum: Only two issues remaining in Mayweather vs. Pacquiao negotiations http://www.boxingnews24.com/wp-content/themes/b24/images/PostDateIcon.png February 5th, 2015 |
http://i1.wp.com/www.boxingnews24.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/floyd7.jpg?resize=420%2C258By Chris Williams: The issues related to HBO and Showtime has finally been settled, according to Manny Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank. Arum says that HBO and Showtime have agreed to how they plan on broadcasting the May 2nd fight.
That leaves only two issues remaining of the four that had held up the fight. Arum isn’t saying what those last two remaining issues are, but they’re currently being worked out at this time.
Mayweather sent an Instagram earlier today, saying that he was meeting with Pacquiao to work out the details of their fight for 5/2. Mayweather said that it’ not his team that is holding up the negotiations.
“We had four issues and we resolved two,” said Arum via the Associated Press at ABCnews.co.com. “Now we’re working on resolving the other two. Unless something else comes up at the last minute, that’s what my take is. The remaining issues are obviously important to the participants, and are things we have to work out.”
It’s Arum saying that HBO and Showtime has worked out the deal, not both networks. It’s also Arum saying that there are only two issues remaining of the original four. It’s quite possible that Mayweather’s team see things differently from Arum, so it’s quite possible that the negotiations still have a ways to go.
Is it a good thing that Arum is saying that the negotiations only have two issues remaining? Yes, but you’ve got to see this as a situation where Arum is doing the talking rather than Mayweather or his adviser Al Haymon.
Until you see Mayweather announcing the fight or saying he’s going in another direction, you’ve got to stay patient and wait. Mayweather is the A-side here, and he’s the one who will speak when he’s ready to announce fight or give a progress report.
Here’s what Dan Rafael of ESPN said on his twitter several minutes ago about Bob Arum:
“Arum told AP the networks made deal for Mayweather-Pacquiao. 1 network told me just now ‘not true.’ Waiting to hear back from the other. BOTH networks have told me in the past half hour that, no, they DO NOT have #Mayweather-Pacquiao broadcast deal, regardless of Arum comments. 3rd network source just said there’s no Showtime/HBO deal yet on Mayweather-Pacquiao despite Arum’s comments to AP. “Nothing has changed.”
The remaining two issues that Arum speaks of could be small and something that can be negotiated successfully between the two superstar fighters by as early as Friday, or they could be huge problems that will require weeks of negotiations.
It’s also possible that these items might be big enough problems to where the fight might not get made. We can’t really know at this point, because Haymon, Mayweather, Pacquiao, Michael Koncz and Arum aren’t going to reveal to the media what these last two issues are. What we do know is that there’s so much money on the line for both fighters that they have an extra incentive to finish out the negotiations this time.
Neither fighter has much in the way of options for plan-B opponents if their fight negotiations fail to work out. To be sure, Mayweather has the better options with potential fights against Miguel Cotto, Danny Garcia or Amir Khan, but even those fights are bouts that will likely bring in just a little more money than Mayweather’s past two fights against Marcos Maidana.
Pacquiao’s options are positively horrible with him looking at potential fights against the likes of Jessie Vargas or someone like Brandon Rios. There’s really no option at all for Pacquiao if the Mayweather fight doesn’t take place.

Floyd Mayweather Can’t Win
The thing about drug addicts and alcoholics is that it’s hard to feel sorry for them. It’s not that we don’t recognize the validity of their struggle. It’s not that we don’t know their pain is real. It’s not that their disease isn’t a tangible thing. It’s that they did it to themselves.
Floyd Mayweather has put himself in a similar position. No matter what happens with a potential Mayweather-Pacquiao superfight, the undefeated 38-year-old will be hard-pressed to come away from the next few months unscathed, and he has nobody to blame but himself.
If you have a limited supply of empathy available to you, I urge you to reserve it for drug addicts and alcoholics instead. Let Mayweather stew in it. A man with as few redeemable qualities as he could use a little time alone with his thoughts.
Even those outside the confines of a typically pro-Pacquiao boxing media have grown weary of Mayweather’s tired antics. Yahoo’s Kevin Iole, who at times seems to go out of his way to give Mayweather the benefit of the doubt when it comes to fight selections and negotiations with competitors, lambasted Mayweather in his column on Tuesday.
“If Mayweather wanted it done, it would be done,” Iole wrote. “On the few occasions he chooses to speak publicly about the talks, he routinely mentions he's the more powerful A-side in the talks. That unquestionably is true. But then he'll bring up the nonsense that he repeatedly spews – which his fans repeat like clapping seals – that he's the boss and Pacquiao is simply an employee of Top Rank. The insinuation is that it's tougher to make the fight because Pacquiao doesn't run his own promotional company, though clearly that has nothing to do with making the fight. Let's be honest, though: If Mayweather truly were the boss, it would be his adviser, Al Haymon, who would be getting punched in the face.”
And that’s the thing about all of this: If Mayweather truly wanted to fight Pacquiao, the fight would be made. It would have been made six years ago, too. Or five. Or three. Or whenever he wanted, but it never was. And now he’s put himself in a really bad situation, one even Mayweather can’t win.
Just think about it. If Mayweather doesn’t fight Pacquiao on May 2 and ends up in the ring with either Miguel Cotto or Amir Khan, nothing he can do in those fights will really matter. He could fight and beat both on the same night, and the first question at the post-fight press conference would be about Pacquiao. All the while, HBO and former promotional partner Golden Boy will hammer his wallet by putting the proposed Canelo Alvarez vs. James Kirkland fight on the same night in competition with his precious PPV date and fight fans who have long clamored for him to face Pacquiao will revolt and be relentless in mockery of him.
Even if Mayweather does fight Pacquiao, he’s bound to lose that situation, too. Most folks consider Mayweather the favorite in the fight. The reasoning typically stated is that Mayweather is naturally larger and a fantastic counter-puncher, the latter of which he shares with Pacquiao’s great nemesis Juan Manuel Marquez. Assuming that’s how the fight plays out and Mayweather does defeat Pacquiao relatively easily, only the cringe worthy “Money Team” seals who clap for him no matter what would give Mayweather anything more than a nod.
After all, while Pacquiao has maintained elite status over the past few years, absolutely no one who watches boxing believes he is anything close to what he was as a fighter when the fight should have happened way back in 2009 or 2010. So while Mayweather would finally meet and face Pacquiao, as has been long expected of him, the mark on his record would forever have an asterisk affixed next to it with a footnote that reads ‘Yes, Mayweather defeated Pacquiao but not the one we wanted him to.’
And here’s what should be scariest to Mayweather, though he’s likely too concerned with propagating his image of power and money to realize it. Pacquiao can absolutely beat him in 2015. Oh sure, he’s not what he once was, but Mayweather hardly is either. The fleet-footed Floyd of five or six years ago would lose nary a round to a crude brawler like Marcos Maidana, and he certainly would never have gotten tagged flush on the chin so very many times over the course of two fights. Moreover, Pacquiao is absolutely the hardest fighter in the world to prepare for. It simply can’t be done. The only southpaw in the world with the speed, dexterity, power and technical skill of Pacquiao is the one he’ll face on fight night, and no matter how much he believes he’ll be ready for the absurd combination of attributes he’ll be up against on May 2, he won’t be ready for it when the bell rings. No one is. It took Marquez 36 rounds to learn all of Pacquiao’s tricks. Mayweather will have a third of that.
Pacquiao isn’t as destructive as he used to be, but he’s smarter now. He’s content to let his handspeed and aggression carry the day for him. He steps back at times when he used to push the pedal to the metal for the knockout because he’s finally realized that judges like his style of fighting just about better than any other out there. Pacquiao doesn’t have to knock Mayweather out to win the fight. He simply has to move forward and out-throw him, and it’s almost certain he will.
So while it doesn’t really matter for him, don’t be surprised if Mayweather fights Pacquiao on May 2. Don’t be surprised if he’s made a huge favorite, too. But when the fight is over and judges award a close decision to Pacquiao, when Mayweather’s face turns to a scornful scowl as his undefeated record at long last falls by the wayside to the one man his gilded legacy couldn’t afford a blemish against, don’t be surprised of that outcome either.
Remember, too, one magnificent oddity about the situation when it’s all said and done: whatever path he chose and whatever outcome unfolded for him, Floyd Mayweather couldn’t win.
And he did it to himself.

Is It Time to Give Up Hope for a Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao Superfight? By Kelsey McCarson (http://bleacherreport.com/users/2333892-kelsey-mccarson), Featured Columnist

Will Mayweather ever share the ring with Pacquiao?
It all seemed so close, didn't it?
(http://bleacherreport.com/floyd-mayweather)Floyd Maywheather and Manny Pacquiao were at long last on the verge of agreeing to terms for a superfight. The two top fighters in the sport—arguably the two best and biggest stars of the era—were finally going to fight each other after six practically insufferable years of waiting.
But according to ESPN.com's Dan Rafaell (http://espn.go.com/boxing/story/_/id/12270429/floyd-mayweather-jr-manny-pacquiao-camps-hit-wall-negotiations-megafight), negotiations for the fight have stalled even after the two fighters met face-to-face last week following a chance encounter at the Miami Heat-Milwaukee Bucks game:
While many were led to believe that the fighter camps were on the same page following the hotel meeting, and that the deal hinged only on CBS/Showtime, which has Mayweather under contract, and Time Warner/HBO, Pacquiao's exclusive network, finalizing a deal for a joint pay-per-view telecast, there are still open deal points between the fighters.
Per Rafael, Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum, has already started pointing fingers at the Mayweather camp for not actually wanting to make the fight.
"There are issues that should be solved in 10 minutes, but it's a slow dance," Arum told Rafael. "We send one draft to their side, and their lawyer sends back a draft with something else that's an issue. And there doesn't seem to be any urgency about it on their side. It's terrible."
http://img.bleacherreport.net/img/article/media_slots/photos/001/948/361/hi-res-c9233f11f2697ef78157ffb837ee5f8e_crop_exact.jpg?w= 650&h=432&q=85 Issac Baldizon/Getty Images
The two fighters' chance encounter last week might not save the fight.
Another troubling sign is that one of the television networks involved in the negotiations, HBO, suddenly and uncharacteristically issued a press release this week stating they were not an impediment to the fight.
The Sweet Science's Michael Woods posited that HBO's break in silence was in response to an article by MLive.com's David Mayo. In it, Mayo proposes that Pacquiao, Arum and HBO are purposely stalling negotiations in order to make Mayweather walk away from the table:
That's right. Pacquiao and Arum, and by extension Time Warner/HBO, only have to stall these talks a little while longer, can say they stayed at the table beyond their end-of-January deadline, and can force the opposite side to walk away first because Mayweather has the earlier date to fulfill.
Deadspin's Daniel Roberts (aka Iron Mike Gallego) would seem to agree with Mayo—at least on pointing the blame toward Arum. Roberts believes Arum simply has more reasons not to make the fight than he does to make it, including conceding critical terms such as money-split and fight date:
Make no mistake. Floyd Mayweather is not afraid of Manny Pacquiao, and Manny Pacquiao is certainly not afraid of Floyd Mayweather. Both men want, and in Pacquiao's case need, to be part of yet another record-setting payday. And, to their credit, both men are saying and doing all the right things to get the fight made. The only one involved in these negotiations who doesn't seem to want this fight to happen is the person who needs it least, Bob Arum. He's also the last person seemingly still fighting his hardest to prevent it from happening.
But what's the truth? Is Mayweather to blame? Is Pacquiao? Is it HBO or Showtime? Is it Arum?
After six long years of waiting with numerous stops and starts to negotiations, why can't the one fight every single boxing fan in the world wants to see the most—the one predicted to easily be the most watched and most lucrative fight in boxing history—get made?
It's maddening, to say the least. But the truth of the matter is that no one, except those involved in the negotiations of the deal, knows the real story.
http://img.bleacherreport.net/img/article/media_slots/photos/001/948/364/hi-res-726df0eecc837fda7ea8cdd0c5417cb0_crop_exact.jpg?w= 650&h=434&q=85 Julie Jacobson/Associated Press
Are Pacquiao and Arum to blame?
Regardless of who's to blame, it's never a good sign when the folks at the bargaining table begin pointing fingers and making accusations at one another. It's one thing for the always-clever Arum to spout off a few one-liners to the media. It's quite another when long-silent HBO does the same.
Whether it's time to give up hope on the Mayweather-Pacquiao superfight remains unclear at this point. While the proposed May 2 date looms ever larger as time marches forward, it remains conceivable the two sides could hammer out the final details of the fight in time for a proper promotion.
But history suggests it's even more conceivable that the fight will once again slip through our fingers. And if that turns out to be the case, it might be better for everyone involved if we never entertain the thought it again.
Mayweather isn’t holding up the Pacquiao negotiations, says Espinoza
By Chris Williams: Stephen Espinoza, the vice president of Showtime Sports, confirmed on Tuesday that Floyd Mayweather Jr isn’t the one that’s holding up the negotiations for the Manny Pacquiao fight on May 2nd.
Espinoza didn’t spell it out by saying that the 36-year-old Pacquiao and his promoter Bob Arum are the ones holding up the negotiations, but it leaves one wondering whether that’s the case.
If Mayweather isn’t the one holding up the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, then it only leaves Pacquiao and Arum, unless it’s HBO or Showtime causing the huge delay in the negotiations not getting completed.
“Not accurate. Floyd isn’t holding the deal up,” Espinoza said on his twitter in response to some boxing fans putting the blame on Mayweather for the fight not getting made with the Filipino star.
The biggest tragedy about the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao negotiations is the senseless blame that is being cast about and directed at Mayweather for the fight not getting made.
Some boxing fans have their minds made of that Mayweather not only stopped the negotiations with Pacquiao in 2009 from getting completed by him having the audacity to ask Pacquiao to agree to random blood testing to check for performance enhancing drugs, but he’s now holding up the current negotiations.
If the negotiations don’t get completed between Mayweather and Pacquiao this time around then boxing fans need to keep an open mind about why the negotiations didn’t get completed.
Unless we see Mayweather and Espinoza speaking their minds about why the fight didn’t get made, then fans can’t assume that they’re getting the straight scoop if all they’re hearing is rumors or information from one side of the equation.
Mayweather has every reason to want the negotiations to get completed because he stands to make a lot of green for this fight. He could potentially make as much as $150 million for the fight, and that’s a lot better than the money he’d make for fighting Amir Khan or Miguel Cotto, two of the options that Mayweather has as his plan-B opponents.
With the kind of green that Mayweather can make for the Pacquiao fight, it’s a no-brainer for him to be shooting for that fight rather than going over old ground in a fight against Cotto or having to deal with being held all night in a fight against Khan.
The money is just too good for Mayweather to turn it down for the Pacquiao fight. Besides that, Pacquiao could be the easier fight for Mayweather than him having to fight the bigger, stronger Cotto or having to deal with Khan. Pacquiao is someone that Mayweather can figure out fairly easily, and then come up with a plan to negate his skills.
You’d hate to think that Pacquiao and Arum are holding up the negotiations for the Mayweather fight by being stubborn and holding out for this or that in the negotiations. It’s already been established that Mayweather is the A-side in the negotiations, so he should be pretty much getting whatever he’s asking for in order to make the fight get signed.

Nothing retard about that, very well spoken. Money is the name so why not make some. No reason I see in him not to. Now the signing of Manny with Top Rank knowing Arum would get piss if the money would not be control by him, makes me think an error was made there. Now he's paying the consequence of his act.

Mayweather-Pacquiao talks bring “nothing meaningful” today, says Pugmire http://www.boxingnews24.com/wp-content/themes/b24/images/PostDateIcon.png February 12th, 2015 |
http://i2.wp.com/www.boxingnews24.com/wp-content/uploads/pac453413.jpg?resize=353%2C250By Chris Williams: The well-respected LA Times reporter Lance Pugmire if reporting that today’s discussions in the Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao led to nothing eventful for their proposed May 2nd mega-fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“The phrase I was told today about Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao talks was “nothing meaningful,” Pugmire said on his twitter.
This still doesn’t mean that the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight won’t take place. It just means that nothing special occurred today.
Thankfully, there’s still plenty of time to go before the fight. Pacquiao’s own close adviser Michael Koncz has already said it himself that they don’t need a world press tour to promote the fight, and that the fight will basically market itself without the expenditure of money.
What this means is that the negotiations can continue on for a lot longer without the worry of a drop dead deadline would potentially kill it the way that the first Mayweather-Pacquiao negotiations were killed in 2009.
The 24-hour deadline Mayweather was given left that fight DOA despite the fact that there was no real hurry to rush the negotiations. Pacquiao didn’t have a great opponent for him to fight, so they should have stuck it out until the bitter end to get the negotiations completed.
What we saw instead was Pacquiao and Arum pulling out of the negotiations, and then Pacquiao turning around and fighting then Top Rank stable fighter Joshua Clottey in a one-sided fight. The Pacquiao-Clottey fight looked more like a between a sparring partner and a champion. It was about as interesting to watch as Pacquiao’s fight against Brandon Rios in 2013.
With there being no movement in today’s negotiations, it tells both sides that someone is going to need to blink first so that this bout can get made. It’s looking like the two sides are still stuck on the same issues day after day, and that tells me that someone is going to need to give in.
It’s hard to imagine that Pacquiao and Arum are willing to lose this fight by failing to give in on the negotiations, so hopefully that’s not what’s happening here. Pacquiao doesn’t have the A-side power to be sticking firm in the negotiations, and he also doesn’t have any good options for him to fight if the Mayweather negotiations fail to pan out.
It’s pretty obvious that if Pacquiao isn’t able to work out a fight against Mayweather then Arum will stick him in with Top Rank stable fighter Jessie Vargas. That’ll be a terrible fight that will likely bring in similar pay-per-view numbers as Pacquiao’s fights against Chris Algieri and Brandon Rios.

Boxing News 2015: Floyd Mayweather Sr. Says Mayweather-Pacquiao ‘Is On Its Way’
The father of Floyd Mayweather Jr., Floyd Sr. is stating that the highly-anticipated fight with Manny Pacquiao is well under way saying that the pair wouldn’t be “trading numbers” and talking if they won’t agree on the super fight tentatively scheduled on May 2, 2015.
“To me it makes no difference but I think the fight is going to take place. Otherwise, I don’t think him and Pacquiao would have took it this far, with trading numbers, you call me and I call you.” Mayweather Sr. said in an interview. “To me, I’ll be honest, that looks like a fight to me. It’s on its way,”
The assurance by the elder Mayweather should be a breathe of fresh air for the millions of fight fans who are waiting for the announcement of the super fight between the two of the world’s top pound-for-pound boxers. Mayweather Jr. of the United States is currently holding a 47-0-0 (26 KOs) record while Pacquiao is at 57-5-2 (38 KOs); the undefeated American is ranked no. 1 in Ring Magazine’s pound-for-pound rankings while the Filipino pugilist is at no. 3. Ring Magazine is considered the bible of boxing by most sports fans and fight experts.
Mayweather Sr., who is part of The Money Team's "inner circle", admitted that “it would be very disappointing” if negotiations fails again and the pair don’t meet on top of the ring similar to what happened in 2010 when the talks of the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight started and eventually did not happen. Mayweather Sr. added that the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight is the ”biggest fight in the planet right now.”
Both sides have been relatively silent on the matter the past few weeks although Pacquiao has admitted that any announcement of the fight, if it is finalised, will come from Mayweather. Talks about the broadcasting details of the bout is purportedly on-going with some of details being ironed out.

Floyd Mayweather will have an advantage over Manny because of the wear and tear,”
Manny Pacquiao has been began his rigorous training but is keeping mum on if the supposed mega-fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. is a done deal. The Filipino boxer is still cryptic about everything and insists that it is Mayweather who will be the one doing the announcement.
The rest of the boxing community thinks otherwise, and are already in the process of making the predictions way before the fight is made official. Among those with boxing pedigree is none other than the legendary Oscar de la Hoya who speaks as if the fight is already in the books. He relayed in a recent interview that he would have had preferred that the fight took place five years back when both men were in their primes. With both Pacquiao and Mayweather already in their late 30s, De La Hoya thinks that Mayweather will have the upper hand due to the numerous fights Pacquiao has hurdled over the past five years.
“Manny Pacquiao has been in a lot of wars, and it’s a given that he’s had a lot of great fights inside the ring. I think
Floyd Mayweather will have an advantage over Manny because of the wear and tear,”
Pacquiao has had more fights the past five years as compared to Mayweather completing 10 fights with the likes of Joshua Clottey, Antonio Margarito, Shane Mosley, Juan Manuael Marquez, Timothy Bradlet, Brandon Rios and Chris Algieri. Mayweather totalled only 7 with Shane Mosley, Victor Ortiz, Miguel Cotto, Robert Guerrero, Saul Alvarez and Marcos Maidana. It also does not help that Pacquiao has been battling opponents and his aggressive style leaves for a lot of punches thrown. This was evident in the four fights with Marquez, the last of which ended in the now famous knockout punch that Mayweather keeps referring to taunt “Pacman.”
The boxing world has long been intrigued of matching up Pacquiao with Mayweather with a long list of former boxers and experts already giving their two cents on the matter. De la Hoya is one of the former champions who is predicting a Mayweather win if ever the forces meet. He joins other notable names such as Brandon Rios, Abel Sanchez, Bernard Hopkins, Ricky Hatton, and Juan Manuel Marquez

yeup i picked up on that too ...
probably part of their talks was that it will be Floyd making the,, or any announcements ..
since these two started their talks have you noticed how it's always on Floyd's terms?
Floyd want's this, Floyd want's that, Floyd will get paid this, Floyd says Manny will get paid that.
drug tests ,, etc. etc. etc.
Sure Floyd has the advantage ,, in preparing for Manny , his toughest opponent yet ,,
Floyd's been beating him up outside of the ring for 6 years ,, he's already gotten him softened up !!
consider it part of his "boxing smarts"
Remember, Floyd has said it himself ,,, He's the smartest boxer and not necessarily the toughest

Report Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao agree to $250 millions in Las Vegas fight
The deal is reportedly done. The biggest fight in boxing history is expected to take place May 2.
According to The Telegraph , Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao have finally come to terms in what will be the richest match-up in boxing history.

Mayweather is currently in New York for NBA All-Star Weekend, and some speculate he will officially announce the match in the coming days. There's also chatter the popular boxer could even announce it during the All-Star festivities. That would be the ultimate Mayweather move. On the other side of the spectrum, Pacquiao has signed and completed all things necessary.
"Manny has 100 percent signed his side of the deal," a source told Telegraph Sport. "It is now over to Mayweather to close deal and announce the fight."
Fans have felt toyed with when it comes to this fight and the constant back-and-forth of "will they or won't they." Pacquiao has already started training in the Philippines. Mayweather's training isn't too far behind.
The MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas will be the setting of the epic bout. Both fighters have ties to the venue, with Pacquiao having five of his past seven fights there, and Mayweather having his last ten. There are two other possible dates, but May 2 seems to be the favorite.
The revenue breakdown for each fighter is almost evenly split with Mayweather receiving 60 percent to Pacquiao's 40. Mayweather's legacy will take a big hit if he loses and tarnishes his unbeaten record of 47 wins.
No matter what, the two fighters are finally giving fans what they have been craving for years

I`ve said it all along.........I`ll believe it when they both are still in the ring after the National Anthem. On the chance they do fight...that quote of "Mayweather having the advantage because of wear and tear on Pacquaio" looms large in my mind. Years ago I picked Pac to be able to cut off the ring ,get inside and do decisive damage to PBF. Now?..........nope, I just don`t see it, I`ll take PBF going the distance and piling up points from the outside, winning on an unconvincing decision that may leave the door open to another fight. JMO
Another thing to consider ,, the fight is being held in Vegas
and you know how those Vegas judges judge score cards ,,
even if Pacquaio is in the lead point wise,, you know they'll
give it to Mayweather
