Another iconic American store bites the dust, victimized by the big box stores.Once upan a time, Rat Shack was THE place to go if you needed something electronic:remember "Heath kits"?
you got questions...they got blank stares
that was the saying in the 70's

Have to say they made some pretty good products back in the day...got a realistic lab-440 turntable and couple of pairs of book shelf speakers that are around thirty years old that still play today. Or at least they did the last time I used them.

Forgot about my realistic nova 40 head phones...bought em when I was around 17 so that makes them about 35yrs old lol...sounds as good today as they did back then to me. Picture of the head phones and one of the minimus-5 speakers...head phones made in Japan...speakers made in Korea...sorry the picture is not real clear...hard for me to hold my phone still.

I remember back when they actually had stuff to build a radio, not all the junk they have now.

You could go in and ask for a 22uH RF choke and they had one, also they had the best line of vacuum tubes around, they had a life time warranty, I wonder if I brought one in could they replace it? Or would they salesperson just stare at it an wonder WTF is that.

and you had to give your name and address for every purchase.
An associate refused to sell to my cousin because he used the fake name "johnny cash" since he was paying cash for a small part.
