James Poker is shown in an RCMP handout photo. The chief of Natuashish in Labrador says a body recovered on sea ice near the Innu community is that of James Poker, a teenager who was reported missing 10 days ago.
NATUASHISH, N.L. — Newfoundland and Labrador’s chief medical officer has positively identified a body that was recovered last week on sea ice as a teenaged boy who went missing in mid-February.
The RCMP says an autopsy determined that James Poker succumbed to hypothermia and there were no signs of foul play.
Family members identified the 17-year-old when his body was recovered on Wednesday about 30 kilometres from Natuashish, the community formerly known as Davis Inlet.
An autopsy was done to determine the cause of death and make a positive identification.
Chief Gregory Rich said last week that Poker was on foot and it’s not known why he wound up so far from the community.
Poker was reported missing from Natuashish on Feb. 16.
