View Full Version : Short-Lived Strength (S:) on TP 12311

My SV800HD stopped obtaining Strength on TP 12311 (and others). Using TNT HD on TP 12311 as an example, I was receiving this just fine until about a month ago (Mid Feb., 2015).
My set up:
SV8000 HD
DISH 1000+ antenna
DISH Pro Plus 44 (DPP44) switch

I took the following steps:
1. Factory Rest
2. SW Update- HD8000_SysCleanFile.bin
3. SW Update- HD20-2028.bin
4. SW Update- SV8K_TP_Mod_Jan (Followed Bot1's instructions to a tee)
Also tried trogcamera's tp mod update, "SV8K_Jan2015.bin" file with the same result. More on this later...
5. Configured sats, set 'Auto TP Update' to "off", turned 'Network Search' off and scanned each sat twice (red button, 'Scan Sat' function).

Result: No TNT

I have Un-plugged/ plugged the receiver and the DPP44 switch. Disconnected/reconnected all SV8000HD coaxial cables and now looking for next steps.

Troubleshooting:
1. About trogcamera's tp mod update, "SV8K_Jan2015.bin"- As stressed in his instructions to turn 'Network search' "Off", I found that after installing and scanning sats, this setting reverts back to "On". I don't know if this may be the cause, as per trogcamera, having this "On" corrupts the mod., but I think it’s worth mentioning.
2. After scanning sats, I noticed that when the 'Dish Setting' menu is accessed and TP 12311 is selected, the 'Signal' meter does indicate Strength, S: as 56. Unfortunately, this goes to 0 (zero) after about 5 seconds (hence the title of this post). If any setting is altered or recycled, the meter, again, displays S:56 then flat lines to S:0 after the 5 seconds. Quality, 'Q:', is always a good Q:75, with or without Strength.
I also noticed that although I can receive CNN HD on TP 12457 on Ceil 2, this too, does not indicate any S:, currently on "0". So now this leads me to believe that Strength is a "Nice to have" rather than required.
3. I think I can eliminate dish alignment from the list of suspects. After a scan, I can receive HD channels just like before, except on select TPs.

Please help guide me in the right direction. At this point, I have to consider all suspects; the DPP44 switch, the DP 1000+ LNBF Assembly, the 8PSK HD BOARD (this was replaced last year), outdated TP file(s) or other.
Please help me troubleshoot this issue while providing much sought out information on this topic. (I suspect that others are experiencing the same issue)
Anticipated thanks,

I have the same issue it has nothing to do with your setup. Your provider is blocking/not opening the channel

Try changing your antenna type in settings (on that tp., 12311)(for that channel) from ocs-dp to single...see if it (tnt hd) comes in now

You don't need to use the DPP44 switch, (unless you need to run more then two receivers on that LNB) that LNB has it's own internal Diseqc switch.

You do need the DPP 44'rs power inserter to run the D1000 LNB as it needs the extra DC current that the normal FTA receiver can't supply.(normal FTA receiver supply's 500 mA, the Dish 1000 LNB needs 750 mA)

The power inserter should be on it's own coax (with out a receiver attached to it) to the #1 LNB output port on the D1000 LNB, the receivers(s) can be run on the #2 and #3 LNB outputs.

If you have run the SV8000 through the DPP 44'rs power inserter for a long period of time, then you may have done some damage to the SV8000's internal tuner.

The DPP 44 power inserter was designed to be used with a Bell or Dish OEM receiver, it can do strange things to a FTA receivers input as the standard FTA receiver was not designed to run through that type of device.

When a Dish receiver (or Bell) detects the DPP 44 power inserter (done during the switch/LNB check) it adjusts the internal tuner accordingly.

And the D1000 LNB settings need to be set to OCS-DP or it will not work correctly, Diseqc switch settings need to be set to, Diseqc port #1 = 119W, Diseqc port #2 = 110W, Diseqc port #3 = 129W.

To see 119W you need to use TP12457R, (has the Dish 101 channel on it, and is in the open) and for 129W use TP 12516R. (an SD transponder)

Not sure if its my provider or the problem on my end. PPV 526-535 work fine above that nothing on PPV. So after reading your post I went and checked my tp's I have 12457 and 12516 but I don't understand the R you put with the number.
Thank You,

"R" = Right hand polarity, "L" = Left hand polarity, it's for the circular LNB's used for Dish and Bell, or in the world of FTA receivers "R"= Vertical polarity, and "L" = Horizontal polarity on some setups.
