Well kids let the show begin.......any bets on whether one of them gets hurt today???
TSN.............
Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are set to appear together this afternoon for the first time at a news conference to promote their May 2 megafight in Las Vegas.
You can watch the drama unfold and hear what the fighters have to say on TSN3 and TSN GO beginning at 4:30pm et/1:30pm pt.
There are now just over eight weeks to go before the dream fight that many observers believed might never happen finally takes place at the MGM Grand Garden. The Mayweather and Pacquiao camps have discussed a fight and negotiated several times going back to at least 2009.
The fight, which was announced by Mayweather's camp on Feb. 20, is expected to be the richest in boxing history.
"I promised the fans we would get this done and we did," Mayweather said after signing the contract.
"It is an honour to be part of this historic event," Pacquiao said after the announcement. "I dedicate this fight to all the fans who willed this fight to happen and, as always, to bring glory to the Philippines and my fellow Filipinos around the world."
Mayweather, 38, is a 2.5-to-1 favourite in the fight and enters with a record of 47-0 with 26 knockouts. Pacquiao, 36, is 57-5-2 with 38 knockouts.
While Wednesday's news conference represents the first time the two camps have been in the same room, there has already been some chatter between the sides.
Pacquiao's trainer, Freddie Roach, said shortly after the signing, "Floyd should enjoy being the A-Side while he can because on May 2 Manny is going to put him on his backside."
Mayweather himself added on the day of the announcement, "I am the best ever, TBE, and this fight will be another opportunity to showcase my skills and do what I do best, which is win," Mayweather said. "Manny is going to try to do what 47 before him failed to do, but he won't be successful. He will be No. 48.

Some background info so that you can appreciate the "humour" in this interview of Manny Pacquiao.
Two media personalities conduct animated discussions about fights: Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless. It is a well known fact that these two have a conflicting view about the upcoming fight. Smith favours Mayweather while Bayless is a Pacquiao fan.
This Pacquiao interview precedes tonights conference. Watch this and ENJOY the exchange. Tell me if this does not get you laughing hysterically! (You have to watch the facial expressions!)

Cobra....well we heard a ton of ramble about "the event", the spectacle" as they called it.....but we didn`t hear much about a fight. That`s why I keep saying this will be a better spectacle than it will be a fight. Duran is right...Mayweather cares about his unblemished record and could care less what the fans think on how he gets it which leads me to believe that`s another guy thinking PBF will win on points in a "boring" (not my phrase) fight....excuse me...spectacle..

In a fight that is 5 years in the making and arguably one of the most anticipated match-ups in the history of boxing, Floyd “Money” Mayweather (47-0, 26 KO’s) and Manny Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KO’s) met in Los Angeles, CA to officially announce their super fight live on ESPN.

Boxing hasn’t seen a fight of this magnitude in over 8 years, when Mayweather defeated Oscar De la Hoya by spilt decision. Although Mayweather-Canelo eclipsed the numbers of the De La Hoya fight, it wasn’t considered as a bigger promotion.
Mayweather-Pacquiao is excepted to shatter all revenue records, upwards of too $300 million. With a red carpet rolled out, media and fans aligned the streets of the Nokia Theater to catch a glimpse of the fighters to the credentialed only press conference. The press conference had a Oscar like presentation and feeling. ESPN reporter was on hand to ask question before the fighters announced the PPV extravaganza.
The press conference was the most anticipated since Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson stood across the room from each other.
Michael Buffer introduced Manny Pacquiao to the stage followed by Jimmy Lennon Jr bringing Floyd Mayweather to the stage. The fighters faced off for abnormal amount of time then usual for a face off.
Leonard Ellerbe took to the mic to announce the mega event, “I would like to acknowledge Les Moonves, Stephen Espinoza, Mark Taffet, Al Haymon, and Bob Arum, for their continued effort in finalizing things” stated Ellerbe
Bob arum took center stage, shaking Floyd Mayweathers hand before speaking, “it’s rare that boxing gets world wide attention,” stated Arum. Arum when on to speak about HBO’s involvement with Pacquiao, “they have been behind Manny since day 1, building his career,” stated Arum.
Stephen Espinoza was next up on the podium, “when Floyd signed his landmark deal with Showtime, he promised us the biggest fights,” stated Espinoza. Espinoza went on to say, “Pacquiao was always on his list.” “We look forward to breaking more records on May 2nd,” stated Espinoza.
Bob Arum would take the podium to introduce legendary trainer, Freddie Roach. Roach stated, “I love challenges, this will be the biggest challenge of my life.” Roach finished with,”we’re going to kick his ass.”
Arum introduced Manny Pacquiao next. Pacquiao stated, “the fight is on, your excited. On May 2nd, we’ll do our best to make you happy.” Pacquiao went on to say, “in god, you can become something out of nothing.”
Floyd Mayweather finally took to center stage. In a candid moment, Mayweather spoke, “it’s been a long road, were here now.” “The fight of the century, it’s about fighting the best of the best. It’s a fight the world cannot miss. I’m pushing myself to the limit, never wanted to win a fight more in my life. I was taught to be a winner, ” stated Mayweather
Jeremy Shaap reported that Maywearher seemed, “zen like, calm and non emotional when answering questions.” Dressed in a tailored grey suit, Maweather spoke with Schaap, “the moment will be here May 2nd, my job is to be the best Floyd Mayweather I can be.”
When speaking to Bernard Osuna about the importance of winning the fight, Mayweather stated, “this is just another fight to me. For Manny, a win is the world.”
Manny Pacquiao on speaking to Teddy Atlas, “I confident, I know his style. I was more concerned with my last few opponents.” Pacquiao stated, “I’m motivated, no distractions, I’m loving it.” Pacquiao also stated that a win is the same importance to both fighters.
Shaap is reporting that Pacquiao stated, a loss to Mayweather will be bad for boxing, “beating Mayweather will be good for my fans and boxing as well as my legacy. We both need each other for our legacy.”
Teddy Atlas Stated, “Pacquiao has the hand speed and foot speed to match Mayweather. Also, his punch output will give Mayweather problems.” Atlas went on to say, “this can turn into a chess like matchup because of Mayweather’s style.” “Floyd does what he needs to do to remain undefeated. He doesn’t care about the fans reactions to his performace. He temperate is too be cautious, do what he has to do to win,” stated Atlas.
Mayweather is a perceived 3-1 favorite over Pacquiao amongst Las Vegas sportbooks.

The scene was something that millions of sports fans thought would never happen: Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao, the two best fighters in the world and the sport's two biggest stars, standing face to face at long last to announce the big fight -- one of the biggest ever.
http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2015/0311/box_e_maypac_300x300.jpgJeff Gros for ESPNFloyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao appeared together Wednesday to hype their May 2 fight.
The long-awaited moment finally played out on Wednesday afternoon at the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles, where the fighters were introduced at the one and only joint news conference they will conduct to hype the May 2 fight -- which doesn't need much hype at this point -- until fight week.
They will fight to unify their welterweight world titles, determine pound-for-pound supremacy and determine the king of their era on May 2 (a joint Showtime PPV and HBO PPV telecast) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
"I believe this is what you are waiting for since five years ago," Pacquiao said from the podium, referencing the long haul for the sides to finally make a deal. "The fight is on and we're very excited. Both of us will undergo hard training and we will do our best on May 2 to make you happy."
When Mayweather came to the podium he was low-key and soft-spoken, saying, "It's been a long road, but we're here now.
"May 2, the fight of the century. It's all about the best fighting best and Pacquiao is one of the best fighters of this era. Everything is about timing. I think we couldn't choose a better time. This is a fight that the word can't miss. It's an unbelievable matchup. Action packed fight. I'm in the gym working right now, dedicating myself to the sport, pushing myself to the limit because I never wanted to win a fight so bad in my life and I'm pretty sure he is going to push himself to the limit because he wants to win it the same way I want to win it."
And then they posed together again. And, again, it was hard to believe it was finally happening.

Until I have watched the conference, I was not prepared to make any further comment.
What I have observed:
1) I am so delighted to see everyone in the conference present themselves in such a decent, tactful, and respectful manner.
2) I am particularly impressed with Floyd Mayweather. He spoke like a gentleman - a departure from the image that we have seen in years. I remember his brush with Larry Merchant in particular. This is a different Floyd. It is so nice to hear him speak without an edge in his voice. He conducted himself very well.
3) It is also quite refreshing to see no tinge of animosity between Bob Arum and the Mayweather team. Bob cracked a joke and turned to Mayweather saying, "You missed me!"
4) Pacquiao and Mayweather presented themselves well.
5) After the "face-off", when the two champions faced the audience, Mayweather had his index finger pointed while Pacquiao raised his fist.
6) I saw a very serious Mayweather while Pacquiao's beamed in his natural smile.
How do I read all this? I think they "sold" the public and world-wide media. I think it will be a terrific event. Mayweather's statement about "When someone losses, he has this in mind" was rather abruptly ended. It felt a little "stressed". Pacquiao, meanwhile, in spite of his "broken English" was more fluid and he presented a more "relaxed" image throughout the conference and the post interviews.
Conclusion: 48-0? or 47-1? Take you pick!

We all have our personal sentiments and leanings. And because we live in a beautiful free world, we are free to express our opinion, no matter "how sad", exciting, boring, or different they may be.
Personally, I prefer to set aside personal feelings about the personalities involved and I am happy to offer an objective, and unbiased, observation of the event. Sure, it was "staged" and perhaps "choreographed" to the letter, as most public events are. That is the way it should be, though, in a civil society. There was no "street talk" or offensive statements by either party. There were no fireworks, either. And that suits me fine.
Boxing is a fierce and combative sport and we watch it because of its "explosive appeal". The uglier it gets in the ring, the louder, intense, and more boisterous we become.
But there is a place for decency and civility and that is what I got from the conference. I applaud the "choreographers" and scripters of the conference. I think they did a very good job.
Floyd said what I mentioned in an earlier post about how both fighters want to win.
Again I reiterate ,, we are in for a wonderful action packed fight.
About the class shown today by both fighters, I attribute that to who these two men
are. Normally offensive statements are made by events where the fighters need to
make, so as to promote the fight ,, of coarse that type of hype is not need for this event.
Absolutely this fight will happen,, there is no turning back now.

Clearly spoken by HBO, they made a Champion out of Manny Pacquiao. Using all kinds of tactics they made him what he is now.
Still Arum working his ass on public relations, bringing back World War 2. The Bible says "don't let your right hand know what your left hand has done".

You`re absolutely right.......in that sporting events like this leave everything open to the world of opinions in that 2 people can look at the same thing and come out with 2 completely different views and that to me is great, it makes the world go round.
What I saw in this news conference was 2 contented fat cats willing to put on an event, spectacle etc etc for a ton of money....I saw no evidence of the will, determination or the fierceness of a fighter that they must muster up in less than 2 mnths time.
I saw "dead eyes" in both of them in the stare down that also seemed scripted....you may call it civility, maturity etc. I call it old contented fighters putting on a show rather than a fight.
I saw nothing of the old Halger "he`s trying to take what is mine" attitude nor did I see the hunger or determination that makes a great fight.
Yes my friend there is indeed a place for civility.........2 mnths before the supposed fight of their lives isn`t the time, meeting face to face for the first time isn`t the place. There is plenty of time for that the rest of their lives.
Don`t get me wrong...I`m not one for the yelling, accusing, fisticuffs etc in press conferences that only serve to hype a fight....but I do want to see fighters that are preparing themselves for a fight....not a love in of praise.
I repeat....all I got out of that was a scripted show by 2 contented camps selling the show of the century...it had nothing to do with boxing or a fight.
May be because these two fighter don't hate but have respect for each other
(mayweather called him the best fighter of his era)
also ,, they are both at the end of their careers and so, the (chael sonnen type)
theatrics and drama that precedes other fights would look awfully stupid in this case.
when Roach and then Arum took a swing at the Mayweather camp ,, at first it raised
an eyebrow but soon after, it turned out sounding stupid and childish, given it's coming
from an extremely accomplished and extremely rich camp.
I say leave the bullsh*t to the new and up'n comers who desperately need promotion
so they don't end up fighting over a club sandwich and fries.

I agree that the press conference "bull****" should be left to the rookies looking for a payday...However...I do want to see some evidence of some fight in the respective parties.....not a sloberfest of praise (not at this point).
The only fight I saw in that conference was the icy stare of Mayweather SR esp directed at Arum....and that was the look of a fighter.
LOL ,, yeah I caught that stare toward Arum ,, for a second there I thought he would
pull a Bruce Lee and jump the table and hit Arum with a flying kick .. LOL
When senior was introduced he got up and I thought he was heading to the podium
and so did he ,, until he sat back down,,. A speech from him?? Now, that would have
been funny ,,, does anyone else think he comes across as someone who's a couple
of meatballs short of a meatball sandwich? LOL
We'll probably hear all the TRASH after the fight ... that's when we'll hear the "I told you so"
"I'm the champ" "for all you doubters" etc. etc. etc. and probably a heck of a lot more ,,,
and the TRASH will be the set up for the rematch.
This thing is being scripted like a Soap Opera ,,, like a WWE script ... and why not??
the timing is perfect.
I've been reading a lot lately about "is boxing dead" ... is this the last BIG boxing event?
Well let these two guys re introduce boxing to a new boxing audience. "the timing is right"

alike ... and why not? ,, after all "the timing is right"

I never imagine that one day, I will be full of praise of many of your comments. And I want to address you not as "guys" but as "gentlemen" of the sport!
Your remarks back and forth here about the subject are passionate but without total fanaticism in favour of your guy! That is how respectful you all have been of each other, and each other's opinion - expressing your sentiments but without denigrating the personalities involved .This is how good friends conduct themselves in an animated discussion or debate. So proud of you all....and so proud I am for being in your company.
Now for some points to be made. Cobra, I can appreciate and agree with your remarks about the "lack of fire" in the stare down (face off). It is certainly not the Nick Diaz - George St. Pierre or David Hayes/Klitschko variety. M. TLG explains it so well. Choreographed or not, "the timing is right". The added "hype" of a fierce stare down in this case adds nothing to the entire proceedings.
You are so right, TLG! "The timing is perfect." Like it or not, whether you have serious critique of how the conference was set up and presented, nothing can really change the "perfect setting". Do the two best P4P deserve this time, occasion, and spectacular reward? Well, the only control they have of these events is agreeing to step into the ring and slug it out May 2. The rest, HBO and Showtime coming together; Camp Mayweather and Team Pacquiao collaborating; Arum and Mayweather reconciling somewhat; are all significant pieces of a large puzzle. We may think of the fortune each stand to make, as a result, as stupendously excessive, perhaps even undeserving, but who can dispute the reality that it is the "demand" for such event that drives the financial machinery?
As for the Pacman's trademark "smile", it may be irksome to my friend, Mr. C, but it is as natural as bacon and eggs, and apple pie! It is not contrived. It is not rehearsed. It is not fake! The Pacman was calm as a cucumber. He and Arum spoke extemporaneously - off the cuff (without notes). Having been engaged as a public and motivational speaker for decades, I enjoy witnessing speakers who can grab audience attention by their demeanour. They were addressing millions tuned in all over the world and they did it admirably, without bumbling for words. Ellerbe and the others all had to resort to written scripts.
No, Cobra, it was not a ploy. WYSWYG (What you see is what you get) with Pacman. Which leads me to conclude that if this first meeting is to preview the outcome of May 2, Mayweather appears less confident (changing his "index finger" motion ackwardly to a clenched fist) whereas Pacman showed no hesitation whatsoever.
Condor, to say that Mayweather is "scared" is a bit exaggerated. I would not say that. I'd say that his look; how he held and presented himself at the conference was totally out of character. Dressed in a suit, albeit without a tie, he looked more like a Gucci shoe salesman, in his "best behaviour" to sell a prospect. That is not the Mayweather I know. Thus, wrong or not, this kind of meek impression to me does not point to a "position of strength" but rather to a "look of concern". He did not sound like a boxer who is "sure of his 48th win" in his speech. The is what he said in October, 2014 in an interview with KKBOX Sports TV in Memphis:
“I have been lucky to have reached this point in my career, and undefeated,” said Mayweather. “Losing all of that to someone who is in desperate mode right now is a scary thing”, he adds, (referring to Pacquiao). Now, he did not say he is scared of Pacquiao. He was afraid of losing the zero. I think he still is.
When I see Pacquiao, I'll deliver your message, Cobra! Hehehe!

For nothing less than $200 million LOL.............
Seriously tho.....I know that`s Pac`s trademark smile and it was no put on and normally it would never bother me....but for some reason this time, and there it did. and that`s about it for that.
It wasn`t just the stare that really wasn`t there.....it was the body language etc...nothing I saw mean`t a fight...it mean`t a show. A good one all be it....but a show none the less.

You know he always has that "dumb" smile.. But it's not "dumb" it's being humble and never forgetting where he came from and where he is .. he is not that humble as be aware of the 'quiet ones".. Lol

Clearly spoken by HBO, they made a Champion out of Manny Pacquiao. Using all kinds of tactics they made him what he is now.
Still Arum working his ass on public relations, bringing back World War 2. The Bible says "don't let your right hand know what your left hand has done".
