There's some disagreement — even between the match's promoters — on where the upcoming mega-fight will rank in the greatest bouts of all time.

Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. and Manny "Pac-Man" Pacquiao — two of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world — meet May 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas in a welterweight world championship unification bout.

Leonard Ellerbe, chief executive of Mayweather Promotions, calls it "the biggest event in the history of boxing."

But Bob Arum, of Top Rank Inc., says no fight will ever have the societal and cultural impact of the sport's most legendary bouts — Muhammad Ali versus Joe Frazier, Joe Louis versus Max Schmeling.

"In 1971, March of '71, Ali and Frazier fought," Arum says. "The world stopped."

There's no disagreeing that the fight will be the sport's richest.

Mayweather, 38, is one of the highest-paid athletes in the world. In 47 fights, the lightning-quick Michigan native has never lost. He's earned more than $400 million in the ring during his professional career. But this single fight could increase that total by more than 25 percent.

Pacquiao, 36, a native of the Philippines, has a 57-5-2 record and is the only fighter to win eight world titles in as many different weight divisions, according to the fight's promoters.

After years of wrangling over terms of the fight, Mayweather and Pacquiao agreed to a contract that included everything from random drug testing to the exact weight of their gloves (8 ounces). It also included a 60/40 split, meaning that Mayweather will get 60 percent of the purse for the fight, win or lose.

That purse is expected to be at least $200 million, putting Mayweather in line to make at least $120 million. Twenty Major League Baseball teams will have payrolls lower than that this season.

The purse for the fight could grow, too, depending on pay-per-view buys and ticket sales. Both are expected to shatter every existing record.

The pay-per-view price tag hasn't been set yet, but it's expected to cost around $90. Viewers who want to watch every jab in high definition can expect to pay an extra $10. And for the extra-high definition of watching the fight in person? Tickets will be $1,500 to $7,500 at face value, but most buyers will have to pay three or four times that in the resale market.

"That is the highest we've seen for face values of a fight ever," says Connor Gregoire, a communications analyst at SeatGeek, on online ticket broker.

The MGM Grand is expected to sell only a couple of hundred tickets publicly. Right now, Gregoire says, there are about 250 speculative tickets listed on the secondary market. The cheapest seat is about $5,400.

"And floor seats," Gregoire says, "which go for $7,500 on the high end, start at $28,000 and up on the secondary market."

"The price is such that ordinary people can't afford it," says promoter Arum. "But you got to realize, the same thing happens in the Super Bowl. It's just that boxing hasn't had that type of exposure."

The thing of it is, boxing has had that type of exposure. It used to be one of America's marquee sports. As Arum himself said, it used to make the world stop — it just hasn't in a long time. The rise of mixed martial arts, concerns about fighter safety and a lack of big-name boxing stars have led many to believe that the sport is in decline.

That's why the fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather — and all of the money around it — matters. The fight either will signal that boxing can be marquee again, or that its glory days and huge paydays are things of the past.

"Brawl" pfffft........tap dance maybe. At least people will get to see 12 rounds instead of blowing that kind of cash on a 1st round KO.....but wouldn`t it be funny if it was after all that hype.

Mike Tyson Casts Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao Fight Prediction

http://img.bleacherreport.net/img/images/photos/003/316/107/7866ff68c5414ba0cb82b3ad56aca055_crop_north.png?w= 565&h=377&q=75

Former heavyweight Mike Tyson believes Manny Pacquiao has the upper hand going into his May 2 bout against Floyd Mayweather Jr., giving the advantage to Pacman due to the stylistic differences between both fighters.

Anticipation continues to build for the long-awaited fight, and Tyson is but the latest to give his two cents on how the welterweight clash will play out. As reported by the Daily Mail's Jeff Powell, he's been convinced Pacquiao would win from the moment the fight was announced:

I thought from the start that Pacquiao is going to win. This guy is perpetual motion. He comes from every angle. He’s all energy. Always throwing punches. Never stops.

Floyd tucks in and picks his shots and he is more accurate. But he doesn’t throw anything like Manny’s hundred punches a round.

It’s unlikely he can knock Manny out so if he wants to win he’s got to change. Unless he throws more punches he can’t win the rounds.

He provided more details in a video he made for his personal YouTube channel, detailing some of the key differences between both fighters:

Opinions seem split on the May 2 fight, with Mayweather installed as a slight favourite by the oddsmakers, per Powell. The 38-year-old is undefeated, entering the contest with a record of 47 wins with 26 knockouts.

Mayweather's shoulder-roll defence has served him well throughout the years, but it's exactly this aspect of his style Tyson fears will hurt him against Pacquiao. The Filipino slugger has too much hand speed to lose to a static target, and indeed, Mayweather's lack of movement was particularly evident in his fight against Marcos Maidana.

CompuBox owner Bob Canobbio noted Mayweather took far more punches in that fight than he usually does, as he told Bleacher Report:

Not everyone seems to agree with Tyson, however. Former lightweight boxer Robert Garcia told ThaBoxingVoice.com (h/t Boxing News 24) he agrees Pacquiao needs to overwhelm his opponent with punches, but still sees Mayweather as the favourite:

I don’t think Pacquiao’s going to try and do what Maidana did; Pacquiao doesn’t do that. Pacquiao fights more in an out and counter-punches, and to do that you have to be really good to beat Mayweather. To beat Mayweather is the way Maidana did; just smother him and make it a dirty fight, make it an ugly fight, and I don’t think Pacquiao’s going to do that. ...

... Mayweather’s just too smart and can adapt to anything.

Mayweather's ability to adapt to his opponent may just be the top reason he's still undefeated after all these years. Money is renowned for taking over fights in the middle rounds and almost making a mockery of his opponents by the end of the bout, darting in and out of reach and putting his jab to excellent use.

He's also an incredibly smart fighter who is always prepared for anything. Mayweather has struggled with southpaws in the past, and as he told Showtime Sports, he's not taking any chances, inviting Zab Judah to his sparring sessions, among others:

Judah famously had Mayweather in a spot of trouble early when they fought in 2006, and like Judah, Pacquiao is expected to attempt to overwhelm Money early on May 2, looking for either a stoppage or a significant lead on the cards.

The main differences between the two are hand speed and stamina. Pacquiao can continue his relentless attack for 12 rounds—it's how he's always fought, and despite throwing a ridiculous amount of punches, he connects with a high percentage.

Tyson believes that will lead him to a win—Garcia doesn't. The debate will surely rage on until May 2, when we will finally see these two titans in the ring together after more than half a decade of waiting.

Like Tyson has got all his marbles LMFAO..............I like all the references they use...2005, 2006 etc...I gotta flash for all of these idiots...this isn`t 2005 or 2006 anymore and both these guys got 9 or 10 yrs of wear and tear on them. Neither Pac nor PBF are the fighter anymore that everyone seems to be using in their estimations. I repeat....this will be a show, not a fight.
And the debate won`t end on May 2........the age old "IF" they would have fought when.....will emerge.

I think we'll have a knock out but from the unsuspected side. Pac's training is almost public, Floyd is maintaining more secrecy. Herd he's putting his chatas on their butts. No legs (as they say) so fight it out, his defense is the best. Plant them down in the canvas and hit harder. Sab Judha among the chatas.

Well my friend it certainly would be a surprise if that "unsuspected side" did indeed get the KO unless he did it very very late in the fight. I just don`t see PBF going for it early and if it`s late and he`s winning on points I don`t see him taking much of a chance..........but we`ll see soon enough.
