Been hearing rumors in the wind about some counter IKS software being introduced By the Kudelski/Nagravision group called "Command Cast" (sp)?

Anyone have any input?

Suppose to be implemented by May of this year?

Dish, Nagra integrate security to cut off piracy

Nagra said Dish Network is first customer to deploy its new security system, which hardwires conditional access into set-top chips.

AnyCast Command, part of Nagra’s new AnyCast Security Services Platform, puts both decryption and descrambling into a single, secure Nagra device. Since the launch of digital TV in the 1990’s, these functions have occurred in two separate devices, namely the conditional access vendor’s smart card and the set-top box chipset, Nagra explained.

The arrangement has been exploited in recent years by content pirates, and companies that develop content protection technology agree that something new has to be tried. Pirates have been compromising control words (CW) with control word sharing (CWS). CWs are used to unlock content. Pirates have learned way to infiltrate CW networks; they steal CWs then distribute them – CWS.

One approach to frustrate CWS-based piracy is to integrate the functions – if there’s no CW network, there’s nothing to hack.

Nagra says it developed anyCast Command “in close cooperation” with EchoStar Technologies, which builds set-tops for Dish and will be the first set-top box partner to integrate the new technology into its boxes, Nagra said.

The unification of decryption and descrambling into a single piece of silicon not only exponentially increases the security of the CAS system, but also simplifies integration by reducing much of the STB testing and certification that was required when these two elements were separated, Nagra said.

Maurice van Riek, senior vice president, head of content and asset security for Nagra, said, “To date, the fight against control word sharing has been a cat-and-mouse game with global pirate networks, which are increasingly sophisticated in their operations. Nagra’s new approach takes full ownership and responsibility for content security within a single architecture in order to deliver a definitive knock-out punch to this type of piracy by protecting the Control Word by design.”

"As one of the leading pay-TV providers in the world, we constantly look to protect our content and network,” said Vivek Khemka, senior vice president, product management, Dish. “That’s why we decided – as part of our partnership with EchoStar and Nagra – to deploy a radically different kind of technology, anyCast Command, to help protect our service and revenues.”

AnyCast Command, in addition to eliminating CWS, will ensure pay-TV service providers are prepared for a potential future launch of 4K-UltraHD services by supporting a variety of different watermarking schemes, a key requirement of the MovieLabs Enhanced Content Protection specification for 4K VOD services, Nagra said. It will also be available in different form factors, including smart card, STB companion chip and others.

NAGRA + DISH Network—Say The Word For Protection (Security Technology—SatBroadcasting™)

[SatNews] NAGRA has announced that DISH Network L.L.C will be the first customer to deploy NAGRA anyCAST COMMAND, the company’s new security technology that defeats popular forms of piracy like control word sharing and paves the way for ultra-secure 4K services.

The new technology is being developed in close cooperation with EchoStar Technologies L.L.C. (“EchoStar”), a wholly-owned subsidiary of EchoStar Corporation, which will be the first STB partner t o integrate the new technology into its boxes. anyCAST COMMAND, part of NAGRA’s comprehensive new anyCAST Security Services Platform, changes the paradigm for content security by concentrating both decryption and descrambling into a single, secure NAGRA device. Since the launch of digital TV in the 1990’s, these functions have occurred in two separate devices, namely the Conditional Access vendor’s smart card and the set-top box chipset. This separation of key security elements has led in recent years to new forms of piracy like Control Word Sharing (CWS) that have had a significant negative impact on payTV service providers. The unification of decryption and descrambling into a single piece of silicon produced by a security expert like NAGRA not only exponentially increases the security of the CAS system, but also simplifies integration by reducing much of the STB testing and certification that was required when these two elements were separated. anyCAST COMMAND, in addition to eliminating CWS, will ensure pay-TV service providers are prepared for a potential future launch of 4K-UltraHD services by supporting a variety of different watermarking schemes, a key requirement of the MovieLabs Enhanced Content Protection specification for 4K VOD services. It will also be available in different form factors, including smart card, STB companion chip and others.

“With this introduction of anyCAST COMMAND at DISH, EchoStar and NAGRA take the decisive lead in providing the highest level of end-to-end content security available on the market today,” said Maurice van Riek, senior vice president, head of content and asset security for NAGRA. “To date, the fight against Control Word Sharing has been a cat-and-mouse game with global pirate networks, which are increasingly sophisticated in their operations. NAGRA’s new approach takes full ownership and responsibility for content security within a single architecture in order to deliver a definitive knock-out punch to this type of piracy by protecting the Control Word by design.”

"As one of the leading payTV providers in the world, we constantly look to protect our content and network,” said Vivek Khemka, senior vice president, product management, DISH. “That’s why we decided—as part of our partnership with EchoStar and NAGRA—to deploy a radically different kind of technology, anyCAST COMMAND, to help protect our service and revenues.”

NAGRA will deliver anyCAST COMMAND to EchoStar and DISH in the first quarter of 2015, after which time the product will be available to other NAGRA customers.

Who cares if Dish ends IKS in May?

There are other options for us like IPTV and C-band satellite. If you don't have unlimited internet or don't want to pay a monthly IPTV subscription, just get a big dish and start testing c-band satellite.

By the way, it was Charlie Ergen the greedy bastard who killed off c-band over the years. All c-band channels were free in 1986 (including porn), which is why millions of people installed big dishes. In the 1990s, Charlie hit upon the idea of becoming a billionaire by monopolizing satellite tv with his pizza dishes. He started putting pressure on all broadcasters to encrypt their c-band signals until a few years ago there was hardly anything itc. Your only choice for satellite tv was Dish or DTV and $150 per month out of your pocket!

Now hackers have broken the c-band encryption and everything is free again!

even if it is true and I have only seen a few people saying it is there is nothing public yet and if and when it does become public how long do you think it will last? It will just resort back to what you said it was like years ago and they will be forced once again to secure their signals. If and when it is released I would give it 6 months at the best

Can't speak for anyone else but I care...enjoyed it over the last 10 years. I will say that I liked stand alone vs.iks but the winds changed and although I said I wouldn't go that route I did anyway. Still trying to wrap my head around iptv plus you have to be mindful of the bandwidth...if I did go with iptv I guess I would look into going back with a cable modem...don't think they are capping it around my neck of the woods yet anyway. But I would miss playing around with my pizza pans...be surprised what can be done with a tiny 18" dish and a motor. Late 2007 I was getting 61.5, 82, 91, 110, 110 and 129 off my little dtv dish...now since they moved beverly,s foot print I can't get beverly...can still nail 61.5, 72, 77, 110, 118, 119 and the 129 so not all bad...of coarse some of those are not viewable. If I put up my 20 x 22 pan aka dish500 modified slightly and my linear lnb I can run down 72, 79, 83, 85, 87 ,93, 95, 97, 99 and a few more like 101, 103, 105, 121, 123, 125 and 127...not sure how many of these still have viewable channels now...been a while since I had my linear mounted.

As far as c-band goes not an option for me at the moment and probably not for a lot of others do to where they live like restrictions and apartments etc. Plus I just don't see them letting that go on very long and going unchecked...guess time will tell with c-band as well as iks...of coarse if someone already has a bud the c-band deal would a good thing for the time being.

better to have the income from multiple sales ie: Dons , than a one time purchase of a working STB, as most would not be able to afford the high cost of a receiver that has the ability to share CW,s. as then those who pursue IKS ,will keep returning a profit to those on the server end..when the only way to make a profit is to Now release an STB with a chip in it. I believe those STB,s will be marketed, even if there sales are prohibited in the US. Don,t be fooled into thinking something that is designed by man cannot be enriched apon by other men

Funny thing is they didn't have to go to all that trouble. All they have to do is roll the keys daily...end of iks, atleast based on its' current technology set

even simpler is just speed the control words up by a couple of seconds, between the lagging on IKS and minimal bandwidth most servers would be dead in the water

even simpler is just speed the control words up by a couple of seconds, between the lagging on IKS and minimal bandwidth most servers would be dead in the water

That would hinder IKS but not stop it. A card server can spit out Control Words for 20 channels every 15 seconds - so lets say they speed up CWs to every 7 seconds - then a card server could only do maybe 9 CWs every 7 seconds. They would just have to double up on the number of seeder cards/receivers that they are currently using.

Both CSP and FSLB show the lag time between when a CW is requested and when the card is able to spit it out and return it to the requester - sometimes it is only a split and second and the hightest usually only 4 or 5 seconds if the server is very busy doing lots of control words.

Nostradamus
03-17-2015, 09:10 AM
I think it would cause enough problems that many people would just forget about it due to the freezing and server operators would be hit in the pocket book trying to keep things running on a declining client base. It seems though there is a lot of steps DN could have taken to not necessarily secure their signal but to make it a lot tougher at the same time

No, IKS killed the stand alone bin, IKS was all about the money, N3 was hacked before all the CHs went to all N3, so if there is no more IKS then we mite get a stand alone bin.
IKS is not done just yet, there are provider other than DN & b3v, like sky mexico & claro will still be working.

a few things wrong with that post as far as I know

1- N3 has not been hacked otherwise the servers would be using it and all channels would be open

2- stand alone bin for what? Dreamlink? Only box still being manufactured as far as I know other than clones

3- even if N3 was hacked, which it isn't, the implementation of Anycast and Mpeg4 means that the hackers would have to start all over again

4- as for other services, a great deal of people are not within range of those services nor do they speak Spanish or Portugese

Why would they open all the CHs, that would just over load the server and it would let the cat out of the bag.
If there was an open hack for anycass, how long do you think it would take China to make a new receiver and pay coders for a working bin, I would say about 2 weeks.
Now as for other providers, there are lots of CHs in english, HBO,cinemax,Showtime, just to name a few.

why would that overload a server? Think about it for a second. A control word for a HD channel or a PPV is no more data than a control word for channels like USA or TBS. Which do you think most people would sooner watch? And I never said they would open all channels. I said all channels would be open but you can be sure they would have them all open to try and get the upper hand on their competition just the same.

and as for the other providers even with some channels in english most are not and they are not available to everybody the same as bev can't be got in Texas. It might be a long time since I watched HBO via a jacked box but that doesn't mean I haven't kept abreast of things and know how they work. As long as there is streaming over the net and services like Netflix charging $8 a month or less the chance of anybody investing any money in possible hacks of any type is more than just a little silly

If Dish had any evidence that N3 was cracked, they wouldn't implement Anycast with N3! It would be kind of stupid.

Will Dish be secure after this receiver swap? Nobody really knows, but time will tell. Dish has been hacked on/off since about 1998 if I recall correctly.

What does the future hold? I really don't know. If both Dish and Directv become completely secure, then we will probably start to see more iptv. The providers will then respond by trying to secure the signal from the receiver to the tv so it can't be intercepted. There is already some technology that does that.

What I was trying to say was the seeders have the N3 hack, the PS buy from them, that's why when there is an ECM 98% of all the PS go down, most have all the same CHs, after an ECM most of the PS all come back at about the same time with the same CHs.
There is an N3 hack, we will never get it but it is out there.

no the reason they all go down together and come back together is because when there is an ECM in the stream DN burns a few hundred cards or more feeding a central server cache and when the cache starts getting overwhelmed by cards shutting down they simply kill the feed to all the different servers that are buying cache from them. I thought everybody knew that.

If you know any of the seeders you would know that there is no hack. Some servers come up quicker than others because they already have backup cards ready to go as soon as they get hit. Other cheaper servers wait for the hit to come and then subscribe new receivers/cards so they are a little late getting back all channels.
The better servers have several different seeders providing them with a push and some of these guys take pride in being the first to be back up. Then again some of them don't give a crap and just wait to see where they can fill in the gaps.

and every one is so sure that dish is doing this and just not going to mpeg4 like bev did a while back I think if they wanted to it would be over by now I think this newcast or what ever you call it will only be in new recvers only as it is a new chip as it says in the write up And I'm still running a 311 recver and it's not a mpeg 4 it's a 2 and I never got no letters about swapping it out just would like to know who starts all of these rumours any how lol but who cares it's just my two cents

according to Nagra it's being deployed in multiple form factors ... smart card being one of them so it's just an assumption that a hardware swap will be required ...

it's not just a rumor ... do you think someone just made this up ???

lol ... someone hacked into Nagra's server and posted a fake press release :)

Its not about n3 hack or iks or iptv it's all about the money and how much is to be made.. If you build something hand it to a person eventually that person you handed it to will figure out how to take it apart and put it back together..

my 311 says it is mpeg2 on the front of the recv unless its a miss print

Correct, and with a firmware update can be made to work in TURBO mode, not QPSK as it does at the moment.
That is where the change is gonna be.

You pay "X" amount per month and that seems to be $125.00.
Does that unlimited simply apply to your tv/media units or include phone?

May want to use the appropriate forum section to ask for some guidance to be honest.
