Hey all so the power supply went again on my SV8000 hd. Its the 3rd time in 5 years that I have owned it. I have had good run with this box and I love it no complaints.

The question I have for you all is, should I get the power supply replaced again for about $50 - $60 or should I purchase a new box all together ($250 - $400) because the SV8000HD is out dated now?

What do you think? Any input very much appreciated.

What are some of the best HD boxes out there? I haven't even looked in years because the SV8000HD is a great box. This would be like learning to ride a bike a again the SV8000 is a great box.

Please help!

I guess a quick solution would be to pick up a Stynxbox V117,or whatever they're at now.Dreamlink is another option.Too bad about the SV.Great unit in thier day.

yes tell me about it. I cant decide just fix it or buy a new age box. Hard call it still works great and runs problem free even the pvr option works flawless!

What you need to do is have the power supply unit (PSU) rebuilt with good quality capacitors and depending on the version replace a diode or two. I have rebuilt many of the SV8K power supply and they last for years after that. Most if not all FTA STB's are build with poor quality parts. There is a guide, I think on this site if not I will upload it. If you can't do the work give the guide to a "teck" and he can do it for you. Or I can if you want to ship it to me.

I uploaded the guide here:
