HALIFAX – Several people were sent to hospital early Sunday morning after an Air Canada flight from Pearson International Airport to Halifax slid off the runway upon reaching its destination.
According to Air Canada, 23 people were sent to hospital with minor injuries.
The plane landed around 12:30 a.m. The flight was carrying 133 passengers and five crew members.
Halifax was under a snowfall warning at the time of the incident with as much as 20 centimetres of snow forecast for the area. Representatives from Halifax Stanfield International Airport couldn't say if weather conditions played a role in the incident.
An Air Canada press release stated that 18 of the 23 individuals taken to hospital have been released as of 6:30 a.m.
The plane is said to have hit a power line upon landing. Nova Scotia Power tweeted that power was restored around 1:30 a.m., but wouldn't indicate the cause of the power outage.
The incident is being investigated by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.
A Pearson spokesperson said all flights from the airport to Halifax are currently on schedule.
